Does anyone else find linen trousers uncomfortable in very hot weather?

I found last summer's heatwave very difficult to deal with. I'm menopausal, can't tolerate extremes of weather and take a medication which makes heat intolerance even harder to cope with.

So over the winter and spring I spent some money on loose fitting cotton tops and linen wide legged trousers as everything I googled says linen was one of the best fabrics to wear during extreme hot weather. It also said viscose so I purchased one pair of 100% viscose Palazzo pants.

Well, thank god for the latter because I have found all the linen trousers to be anything but cooling, I may as well wear a pair of jeans. Even the thinner ones are uncomfortable and sticky. I'm finding myself wearing the viscose ones all the time and changing into very thin cotton PJ's as soon as I get home.

Does anyone else find linen uncomfortable in the heat? The trousers are all 100% linen and fairly thin fabrics so not sure what went wrong.

No - i love my whitestuff linen trousers! Wearing them every day.

Maybe I need to try a different brand?

I like linen trousers, but I would also recommend kikoy trousers (literally made out of South African kikoy fabric). They are cool and very soft, and they wash brilliantly. I've had a pair for years, and wore them on a toasty hot day at Wimbledon last week, but I've just bought another pair from Tom's Trunks.

I never wear linen. I cant stand the stuff. It looks like a creased rag. I also find it heavy and stiff. I like my monsoon vicose balloon trousers. I cant even feel Im wearing them.

I stick to cotton, I bought both my favourite summer trousers in India but can buy in uk from Asian clothing stores. They know about heat

I thought it was just me. I’ve got some linen wide leg Next summer trousers that look lovely but I find roasting hot to wear in the heat!
I also bought several Italian linen loose tops thinking they would be nice and cool but I find them hot and scratchy.
I wasn’t sure about viscose but will look into that now!

I hate viscose. Find it very sweaty. I love linen trousers. Have lots, and find them very cool.

Another linen hater, and I would never wear it, either dress, top or trousers. I'd be too hot and look like I came out of the washing machine on a short spin. Like pps I love loose viscose trousers, they are just so comfortable to wear, like a feather on me. I have lots of pairs now. Combined with a loose muslin type fabric loose top or shirt, and good to go.

I find the more flesh that's covered, the cooler I am. I know what works for me now!

Viscose trousers are good, but I also like linen.

Some linen can be a very heavy weight. You need the lighter versions. You also do need to iron linen, as it feels scratchy if you don't smooth it with an iron, but then I iron almost everything so I don't mind that aspect so much.

That said, I do think this recent weather has been a challenge to a lot of fabrics. I've been in short, thin, muslin shorts feeling overly hot.

They look very comfy, I am wearing my viscose trousers every day and washing them at night, I definitely need a new pair.

I never once thought to give viscose a go, in all honesty I thought it was a sweaty material like polyester but the trousers I have are so cooling and almost silk like.

Maybe I’ve not tried the ‘right’ type of linen lol. I have to say I do only have the one pair of viscose trousers but they are so cooling and light and they are from Morrisons!

I’m the same, I’m 53 and cover almost from head to toe, where’s my 18 year old dd walks out with the teeniest of summer clothing on. I would be a hot, sweaty mess if I had so much flesh exposed lol!

Yes, my viscose trousers feel feather like, so light and floaty, I love them.

Like another poster said you do need to iron linen to soften it

Though I wasn't until I saw something on here that said linen was also warming. I do find my cotton sheets cooler than the linen

I got these viscose trousers from H&M last year, in black and cream and black striped, I’ve got the latter on today. They are so comfortable and lightweight. I absolutely love them, and they only cost me £7 a pair.

It can be quite hot, so can muslin which a couple of people have mentioned. My favourite cosy, winter duvet covers are a linen one and a muslin one.
I have a linen shirt which seems a bit cooler than others I’ve tried.
Not sure about viscose, is it clingy?

I have a lovely linen dress from Zara but my god in this heat it feels like I’m wearing a duvet around my legs far too hot 🤣🤣

I can't stand linen. Never, ever understood the love for it. It's hot, thick, stiff, itchy and creases like buggery. Cotton is the thing for this weather or maybe viscose if you choose the right thing.

I was one of those who mentioned muslin, but not the muslin as in the baby cloths! I referred to "muslin type" fabric, and the nearest I can think of is cheesecloth, plenty of air can get through and it's very light!

I don't fine viscose clingy at all. Well the viscose stuff I wear anyway. It's an amazing fabric I think.

Do you know, I’ve worn Tom’s Trunks for years, never knew what made them so soft, thick yet breathable and really easy to keep brilliantly white. Now I know!

Viscose is great.
I have a theory that some 100 per cent linen isn't really that, or has had something done to it to make it not behave like linen. I have some quite thick linen shirts and trousers which are wonderfully cool. DH ordered trousers in a fabric purportedly the same, but it was sweaty and horrible to wear. Ditto duvet covers and sheets.
The cool linen feels a bit different - hard to describe how - I think it's a bad sign if it feels smooth, it needs a slight roughness to it.

I was very comfortable in my wide-leg linen trousers on holiday in high temperatures recently. They're quite a heavy linen, ironed.
On the other hand a couple of viscose tops felt awful in the heat. Loose cotton tops were good.

Not the trousers I have, they are super soft, lightweight and really cooling. I always assumed viscose was a sweaty material but it’s not at all.
