Exactly not this. As the mother of a teen with micro fringe and septum piercing, I would NEVER tell her that her preferences are linked to other people's perception of her attractiveness. She should be free to dress how she is comfortable and in the style she admires.

I can't believe we are still gatekeeping clothing and hair in this way and making such sweeping statements about how a woman should or must look to have free choice.

What if you aren't born stunning? Is there a list of style choices which are forbidden? Maybe just a bag on our heads will suffice?

It’s my opinion posted on an anonymous forum in response to a specific question.

I think it can look stunning on the right person, but on others it’s not flattering. However, my perception of beauty may not be the aesthetic the individual is trying to achieve, so my opinion is irrelevant. And I would never make an unsolicited comment on anyone’s look: if your daughter, or anyone else, chooses a style that I don’t like it has nothing to do with me. I love that people feel able to express their own style, even if I don’t personally like the look they have chosen.

No. A certain type of person has this style.

If you like it, go for it. From a practical point of view, it looks like it will keep it out of your face for the most part, without having to be tied back.

I'm quite aware this is an anonymous forum and you're responding to a specific question. To paraphrase one of my most favourite threads ever, I'm not just bashing my tits on a keyboard and hoping for the best. I am here on purpose.

It might be an anonymous forum but the people reading it are real. And you agreed with a comment which equated a haircut with the notion of being "ugly". I think it's time we moved past labels like that.

Nobody has to like any look. Hurrah for individuality but I don't think we should be saying that certain styles are for certain people only. It's a sentiment I'm trying to actively challenge both with my own DC and those I teach. They all talk very honestly about social media and its power to affect them or destroy their confidence. I think we have the power to not join in with the rhetoric.

My hairdresser is fantastic and I'm yet to have a bad cut from her. I've currently got a wolf cut but fancy a change. She (and the other hairdressers) also said it would suit me 😊

having googled I now want a fairy mullet but fear that by the time my hair is long enough the style will be out of fashion 🤣

I’m glad you’re taking all this in your stride OP! Hopefully you already knew that it’s quite a divisive haircut (as is any kind of mullet!) so you’d get mixed comments.

I very much agree with @MrsTerryPratchett that it’s one of those “deliberately ugly” styles that suits quite a small section of people. I think for it to look right, it has to complement your style of clothing etc too.

However, as you already have a wolf cut I think you’re halfway there (I’m not a big fan of those either 🫣). If you like your wolf cut and think it suits you then I reckon you’ll probably like this cut too. So on that basis I’ve changed my mind and reckon you’ll probably should go for it because by the sounds of things you’ll like it, and that’s what really matters 😊

I’m not sure I know exactly the difference between a wolf cut and the fairy mullet. Is it more off the sides? I have short hair and if i
posted my style here there’d be posters making comments about how short hair suits NOBODY and why do older women all cut their hair short FFS ( I’m 56 fyi) and so on. I don’t know what style I’m supposed to have but I do enjoy fashion…. I haven’t descended into a fleece and slacks just yet. A lot of my friends just wear their hair shoulder length and have hi lights / colour of some description which is fine. So I say go for it and have some fun.

‘Raddled old hippy’? I’ve seen many a young person with this style of haircut who look plain awful. Like extras from Lord of the Rings, or some kind of modern day Shamen but not quite pulling it off on their TicToc reels.

As a much younger woman, I was asked to be a model for my hairdresser in a competition she was competing in. At the time, I had a shoulder length style, fairly ordinary, nothing too outrageous.
During the comp, there were no mirrors. She explained beforehand what she intended to do - a short Bob with a fringe. Told me it would suit my face and look great. What I ended up with was a very short at the back Bob, long at the front with a really short, blunt fringe. I looked stupid, felt awful and what’s worse, because it was so short couldn’t do anything about the fringe. Similar to this but with finer hair. It was in 1976 when Farrah Fawcett blow outs were all the rage!

I have had a google. It seems to be just a mullet yes? How young and hip are you?

I googled and only 2 girls on the long list of pics looked good so I’d say no unless you are like Emma Watson or kylie with petit features

My hair is a greying chin length blunt cut bob. If I posted pictures of it I'd get loads of posters saying it was deathly boring but I love it.

Had I commented that an actual person looked ugly I would accept your criticism, but I wasn’t. Your daughters, and others, presumably think their micro fringes suit them and are happy with the image they are presenting, and that’s all that matters.

I had to google it and then I choked on my tea. It was the haircut of my childhood 🤣 that my mum did until I was at secondary school! It was a ‘kooky’ look.
