Ballet flats are hardly a new invention are they?

No, ballet flats popped into being 9 years ago. Like wedges, sandals and ankle boots 🤣

Can no age group escape the tyranny of trainers? I’d go for ballet flats, sandals, wedges, ankle boots —- anything but a style more than a decade old and boring af.

Nobody has worn wedges since the 2018 raffia shortage.

I like a Superga platform, a chunky Adidas Court, or Nike AF1 - not sure if any of them are stylish but at least I don’t look like Shirley Valentine 😂

Aren't you lucky with your feet!

Those flat trainers like Stan Smith are deeply uncomfortable for most of us with arches.

It's hard to find any trainers with arch support now. If you have please share!

Adidas spezials here … for me (late 50s) and DDs (mid 20s).

A big no to anything Skechers do … I read something on here about the virtues of exercise in older women and one of the benefits was “slowing the decline into slip on Skechers” 🤣🤣

GellerYeller · Yesterday 07:58

@Mulledjuice Adidas Spezials have a bit of arch support.
The comfiest trainers I’ve had were New Balance 927s; really cushioned underfoot. They had a bit of a moment a few years back though. Even M and S copied them, so they’re probably outdated now, fashion wise.
Stan Smiths are heavy.
Veja Canpo take a lot of breaking in.

I am 56. I been wearing fit flop retro trainers. I have silver and black. Fashion is not my initial priority comfort is. They are like walking on air

2chocolateoranges · Yesterday 08:22

I’m clinging onto my 40s just now and wear adidas court, adidas spezial and converse.

Does anyone else find that the New Balance 327’s come up a bit small ?

Edited

Not the 327s, in fact ive squidged orthotics in mine and still fine. The 237s though, I could do with a half size up.

Tyranny?? I don't think you know what that word means 🤣

And for those of us who like to walk eveywhere, trainers are the best choice.

Agree with you - and my chiropodist said it’s best for your toes to be laced into a shoe. I wear trainers or t-bar DMs all the time now. Although not sure anyone would agree with my choice - Clarks. They are so comfortable, the perfect fit for me and I quite like that they are “low key”. Mine were called Stara Walk but the nearest they have now is Seco Speed. Agree with a pp re toffee soles, was forever cleaning white!

dudsville · Yesterday 08:45

I've tried onitsu tiger - attractive but no support for arches.

I've tried Hoff, the higher quality is really noticeable but I couldn't get the fit right.

In the end, I've settled on adidas for the comfort and support, I have two pairs of court shoe style. They have the 3 stripes. One vibrant green and one "clay". And then a white pair that doesn't have the 3 stripes but a small logo. They're also cheap but last years.

Nanda66 · Yesterday 09:03

My Mexico 66 are the most comfortable trainers I’ve ever owned, like walking in slippers. I’ve also found some really nice trainers in M&S which are much cheaper, they have some really nice styles if you’re not worried about branding.

DeftGoldHedgehog · Yesterday 09:12

Mine are not fashionable, FitFlop trainers, but many of the fashion trainers are too flat for my flat feet, and I have had loads of compliments, they are very lightweight, ideal for summer and I could wear them all day long.

Adidas Originals Tokyo. I have the ponyskin zebra print style and get lots of compliments.

Thank you. I’ve just ordered a pair. You don’t want to know what I paid for them but I got an irresistible deal!

That’s odd, I’ve only got the Mexico 66s, which is the most ubiquitous pair they sell and they have strong arch support,, it’s in built and hidden, so you can’t see from the outside, but you absolutely can feel it inside.

Snowy19 · Yesterday 10:03

Any recommendations for those of us with bunions that like to let their toes spread wide? I don’t necessarily need wide fit shoes but I can’t stand my feet being squeezed into pointy shoes, most adidas styles feel like this to me. After wearing Birkenstocks etc it feels like torture.

I must have imagined mine in 1987! 😉

I wear some slightly old fashioned ones called Gabor Helen. My dd persuaded me to buy some Nike air Jordans but they are way too flat and not therefore comfortable. Also, with the Gabor, you can remove and replace the sole if necessary.

No.

Are you in your 50s? Or are you a kid? 🤔

ClippyMuldoon · Yesterday 15:02

Does anyone else find the Speziale very thin soled? I feel every ridge and stone when I wear mine. Good to hear praise for the Hoffs though, I have been looking at a pair recently but they are pricy.

Re the tyranny poster...I think she meant the whole 'trainers and a floaty frock' look. Sorry but it is a bit dated.
