Where to buy long cotton nighties, Victorian type style

I am not doing well in this heat (who is?!) and have got it into my head that the comfiest thing to wear around the house would be a long, billowing cotton nightie, the sort of thing my long-deceased grandmothers used to wear. They used to get them in places like BHS or M&S but obviously BHS doesn’t exist and the only ones M&S do these days are too close fitting. I am after something which wouldn’t look amiss in Peter Pan. Please tell me that these still exist somewhere but without being on some sort of specialist retro website where I need to spend £££. If that’s the case, I’ll just stick to my beach cover up

The White Company

They have a beautiful white cotton voile one.

Tragedy - Next have delayed my delivery until tomorrow. I also have an Amazon kaftan arriving tomorrow so now overnight/early morning wafting is covered as well as late afternoon/evening.
Usually, this sort of purchase would lead to torrential rain for several days and the purchases sitting in a cupboard taunting me. I am desperately hoping that this is the case this time!

Well now I need a long cotton nightie and a candle holder.

This! And a family mystery to solve!

I've bought 6 over the past couple of years from Cotton Real. Mine are knee length but they have lots of full length ones in various styles, made in Britain from cotton lawn. They are perfect for hot nights.

I fucking love MN, now I want a wafty nightie

Do you have an indoor market near you? I last saw some on Leeds market.

Another vote for Zara Home. I’m wearing one at the minute, lightest cotton and only thing I’m comfortable in. Mine is from a previous season but very similar to the strappy nightdress with pintucks (minus the lace).

The Jane Austen house had some seriously nice ones, not expensive either. Pretty sure they had them online too just google the house. Not a joke!

I wear kaftans off Amazon when its boiling. Kaftans are more hot weather appropriate and you can still open the front door.

I love a kaftan but struggle to find them in cotton

John Lewis have a seersucker one which is lovely though I see they’ve only got it in one size right now.

momager22 · 12/07/2026 06:09

I’ve actually got them from Amazon before. One was so thin it was almost see through.
ive also got a great one from Zara or Zara home

Thanks for this thread. My ones from BHS and Past Times are decades old now but still the most perfect things for this weather.
