Washing off sunscreen

I hate SPF, but I know I need it to protect my skin 😬

How do you wash sunscreen off at the end of the day? Facial formulas are usually light, but body sunscreens tend to be really water‑resistant, and normal body wash doesn’t seem to cut it. Doing a full‑body double cleanse is surely too much of a hassle?!

What do you all do? 🙏

I use a Dove Beauty Bar for mine and I think it gets most of it off. I know what you mean though. It’s really hard to remove.

OriginalSkang · 30/06/2026 16:48

I use soap, current one from Lush. I don't have a problem getting it off in one wash

Justmuddlingalong · 30/06/2026 16:53

Any soap and a Japanese wash towel.

Britpopbaby · 30/06/2026 18:32

Clinique Take The Day of Cleanser in the tub.

SoapCollector · 30/06/2026 20:44

I use a bar of soap on my body and if needed a face cloth along with the soap. On my face any oil seems to break the SPF down, coconut oil usually, removed with damp cotton wool or again another damp face cloth.

Surprised soap works so well for you! I always end up with SPF residue. I might try the Dove Beauty Bar or something from Lush ☺️

@Justmuddlingalong

I use soap with a cotton wash mitt, but my skin still feels sticky afterward 🥺

On my “win the lottery” wishlist 😁

@SoapCollector

Thanks, I’ll try coconut oil. Do you follow it up with a foaming cleanser? 🙃

Following as I avoid wearing it on my body unless absolutely necessary and have a lot of long sleeve tops. Body scrub like salt scrub can be good at getting rid of it though, but I can’t use that daily.

managingexpectations · 01/07/2026 02:19

Eve lom cleansing balm it gets rid of everything. You do need to massage it in for around a min and use warm water to get it off. No horrible residue left behind

TheQueenOfEverything · 01/07/2026 03:09

Try an oil based wash cleanser then exfoliate it of.

RampantIvy · 01/07/2026 07:30

A bar of soap and the rough side of a massage sponge.

RumAndCola · 01/07/2026 08:46

I use soap and exfoliating gloves. Proper soap, I don’t rate Dove but I know it can be good for sensitive skin, TK Maxx have lovely soaps.

TinyBlueDent · 01/07/2026 08:52

What body sunscreen are you using? I haven't used any for years but I don't remember it being difficult to wash off. But would have been a Nivea moisturing one, applied once a day, not heavy duty all-day-in-the-sun sunscreen. Is it because it's water resistant?

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 01/07/2026 08:55

Use a proper bar of soap, not dove or shower gel, and a flannel.

Wendywooooo · 01/07/2026 08:55

I find it hard to remove, usually wash twice, with a full rinse in-between, then moisturise

I don't as I have quite dry skin, but I've heard some people do follow with another cleanser.

user67584329 · 01/07/2026 16:09

I agree with @managingexpectations Eve Lom cleansing balm with a muslin for face and then just bar soap for body.

GameOfJones · 01/07/2026 20:22

I use any soap with a shower puff (which is my usual routine anyway) and have no issues.....and that's with using the same sun cream as my kids on my body which is the SPF 50+ stuff.

Facial SPF is lighter as you say so no problems with a flannel and cleanser.

Coconut oil is comedogenic so if you are prone to spots, I’d avoid. A decent cleansing balm (the Clinique one above, lots of Kbeauty brands do them or at the high end Eve Lom or Emma Hardie), followed by micellar water or a gentle foaming cleanser will get any/all spf and makeup residue.

gillefc82 · 01/07/2026 20:28

I’d recommend this one

@TheMillionthBeautyAddict
❤️ I also try to avoid SPF by wearing long sleeves. I agree a salt scrub would be too rough for daily use for me too

@Wendywooooo
❤️ I’ll try the “wash twice, with a full rinse in between” trick

@managingexpectations
Balms seem to be a great option for the face, but any tips for the body? 🙏

@user67584329
At £65.00 for 100ml, it would be steep for body use 🥺

@gillefc82
Quite a bit cheaper! But I have very long legs. I would go through a pot a week 😇
