Are white or cream trainers and dresses still ok? Which ones are nice enough.g. not too clunky? Are Vejas comfy? Superga? Any others?

In my case because of a foot condition sandals and most shoes are not supportive enough and lead to severe ankle pain if worn more than an hour.

Is this because of tendonits? If so there are some brilliant simple exercises that help a lot. I have this, and local NHS Physio has really helped though I still need to wear trainers at this stage. Awful to wear trainers in the heat!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/06/2026 15:39

I got leopard print Adidas Sambas for Christmas and am really enjoying them with skirts and dresses at the mo. I don’t tend to wear many patterned/printed clothes though, so appreciate this wouldn’t work if you do. I have a black and white gingham midi skirt I like wearing with my black and white Sambas, and also wear Birkenstock Boston clogs a lot.

I hate exposed toes so sandals are not for me, plus have PF in my right foot. Not sure my legs are particularly shapely anyway, tbh, my grandpa used to say I had “Highland-man’s knees” when I was a child.

ToadRage · 24/06/2026 16:09

I wear dresses most of the time and usually wear either my pink or navy Skechers, whichever colour goes best.

Maybe I should say I like a flash of shapely Highlander leg. On Scotsmen. Big, hairy, and smouldering.

I think M&S do a great range. I love my suede buttermilk yellow retro ones and I’ve pink and burgundy from last year. I am currently keen on a pale blue pair from them. Just ringing the changes from white. There’s so many colours, it is more fun but costs more!

They are an abomination and do nothing to enhance the female shapely leg

Rubbish. A really great leg is only enhanced by trainers. Today I wore a silk blue slip midaxi with an extremely beaten up pair of Valentino rockstuds, and though I say it myself I looked the business.

I still like converse with dresses

I like it but it is still very dated/not in fashion, sadly!

Before you get all the tedious ‘if you like it, wear it’ comments…the white trainers with a long dress look is definitely dated now. Retro style two-tone trainers are more current, or coloured ones.

I’ve recently got brown/cream Handball Spezial trainers.

Each to their own. I’d rather be thought of as frumpy than a fashion dimwit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good thing us converse wearers don’t care what’s in fashion! :)

I've been watching the Wimbledon qualifying. All those female legs in trainers look dreadful 🤣

In your opinion they do.

No they don't they're all flippin' beautiful, without exception . I was being tongue in cheek 🙂

Ah, grand! Sorry, it's hard to tell on here sometimes, there are so many insanely bad takes.

momager22 · 24/06/2026 21:33

Yes the white trainers and floral maxi dress is a bit dated now. I’d go for something more plain, dress wise and more retro but sporty looking trainers like gazelles or nike Cortez.

Cazziebo · 24/06/2026 21:44

I had a bit of a thing for Hoff trainers, buying colours to match outfits. I now only buy clothes in colours that match the trainers. I have plantar fasciitis so it’s trainers for life for me. (And Hoff are particularly supportive and comfy). I don’t care whether I’m “in’ or not!

DressOrSkirt · Yesterday 01:15

I've never liked white trainers, but wear coloured trainers with summer dresses.
Adidas are the only brand I've found to be remotely comfortable, but I do have wide feet.
Superga were the worst I've ever tried, Converse a close second.

EconomyClassRockstar · Yesterday 01:35

It really depends. If you have cankles, you will never convince me this is a good look.

But what makes cankles look good? 🤔

Flutterbees · Yesterday 11:00

Still perfectly acceptable where I live. I work in a school, we’re all wearing dresses and white sneakers (trainers) to work.

BCBird · Yesterday 11:03

I wear whatever suits my inclination. I don't particularly like the look, but my feet thank me for it.

In my view I think they look God awful.
There are so many gorgeous shoes and sandals out there, why would you wear a dress and trainers.

Nope, dress and trainers look great together - stylish, but also you could run away from an axe murderer if you had to. That’s the approach I take to all my outfits, TBF.

Are you a man? I thought we’d stopped dressing for the male gaze.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · Yesterday 13:55

@DressOrSkirt Leather or suede trainers from M&S are really comfortable. I have wide feet and their suede retro ones are great. Just buy a few pairs and return the ones that aren’t so comfortable but I’ve been very pleased.

I find trainers comfortable, and practical because I don’t have to worry about my feet burning or using sunscreen on them (it always makes sandals slip and rub).
