Summer dress - keep or return

Bought this in the John Lewis sale for hot days in the office. It's a very light viscose material. I'm not sure though now about the pattern, should I keep or return do you think?

I like it and think it looks good on you, or at any rate, the part of you that's visible. However my opinion is irrelevant. The only relevant opinion is yours.

Colour/pattern is all subjective but I think if it was at least two inches longer it would look more 'now'.

Bit too casual for the workplace.

Depends where you work!

Exactly, and the OP will know the dress code. In general, office wear is much more casual than it once was. Depends where in the country you are, too. London and the South more casual than the Scottish Highlands. Dress pictured looks fairly formal as dresses go, fairly classic and avoiding fashionable trends. Unless OP is expected to wear pin striped suits, then it won't be too casual.

I have this one in green to wear to work on hot days, it’s a lovely colour. The fabric is thick but not heavy, so it gives good coverage but isn’t sweaty. The sleeves are a good length and it has pockets.

It’s a similar style to some others suggested, but the pale green is a great summer colour.

There are plenty of reasons not to buy that dress but that's not one of them.

80smonster · 23/06/2026 22:44

I’d return.

Indeed! Tomorrow I’ve got no meetings and not meeting anyone, I’m going to be wearing denim shorts and a tshirt (have a sweatshirt in my drawer in case the air con is too chilly!).

Aiming4Optimistic · Yesterday 13:03

I really like it

Return. It doesn’t flatter you.

I'm thinking something like this - 100% cotton, covers upper arms, tailored at the waist to give shape, midi length so you can wear chub rub shorts (essential for me in the heat, you may be luckier than me!) I'd wear with gold jewellery and white or cream trainers/flats.

This one arrived today and I like it. I don't think I would have picked that out myself so thanks for the advice. It has pockets too.
