I need a dress for my DS’s wedding and it seems impossible to find. I’ve seen what MN can come up with so I’m hoping it can work its magic for me.

I’m late 50’s, 5.3, BIG boobs (36H) and weigh about 143 pounds. I’d like short or three-quarter sleeves and a hemline below my knees.

The problem is that most dresses for big breasts are wrap dresses. I don’t where the myth comes from that wrap dresses are good for the big of boob - they certainly don’t flatter me. They just accentuate my breasts. And the current fashion for big, almost puffed sleeves does the same.

So what I’ve been hunting for is a midi dresses with simple sleeves and a dropped waist, or at least a lowish waist. I can’t wear dresses with each breast defined - don’t know what you call that shape but it doesn’t work on me. I love vivid colours - pinks, purples, greens. Patterned or floral or plain.

Am I looking for a unicorn? Would be very grateful for any steers. The wedding is semi-formal- a Sunday lunch.

TIA

Yes, I really don't know where the 'wrap dress for big boobs' thing came from. Whenever I've tried one on I can't get it off quick enough! They can look elegant on some people, of all sizes, so what's the secret formula - shape or placement of boob? Waist-to-hip ratio? But then I'm tall, so according to most SM I look good in anything (laughs bitterly).

One style that really does suit is the tea dress, although they've been everywhere for a few years now so even I'm getting a bit bored of my go-to. But they are the one type of dress where buxomness can be an advantage. Check out Nobody's Child Starlight range, if someone hasn't suggested it already! You can always do a Google lens search for similar styles.

Sadly I don’t think the NC Starlight will work for OP as she’s said she doesn’t like the style when ‘each breast is defined’ and the Starlight does have that under-bust seam and central buttons which defines each breast if they sit in exactly the right place - but agree they’re lovely dresses!

Fair enough, but a little definition is the most flattering look on me, and I'm nearly the same size as OP.

A central line of buttons down a dress or dress bodice for example; perfect. Same goes for an empire line. Works better on me than a cinched-in waist anyway.

Also, conventional wisdom says you mustn't go for anything draws attention to your chest - frills, wide collars, flamboyant necklines, puff sleeves, print. Well it's quite the opposite for me. Those things act like camouflage, breaking up the outline.

Personal style comes into it of course. If you're a minimalist who prefers clean lines and plain colours, that's tricky! But you can offset flounce with dark or neutral colours for example.

Thing is, it's not about denying you've got big boobs, but finding that sweet spot between the in-yer-face definition of a wrap dress and equally unflattering tenting or monoboob that occurs when there isn't any definition at all.

SoScarletItWas · 18/06/2026 11:15

@MixedFeelingsNoFeelings ooh now you’re making me think of the dress I bought recently which has wide pointy or flouncy shoulders, a boat neck (I’m 34F so I should be scared of boat necks but they work nicely on me) and makes my boobs and waist look much smaller. Very true what you say.

The Mint Velvet dress linked upthread (Cream Cotton Blend Drop Waist Maxi Dress – Mint Velvet) has nothing to distract from a large bosom.

The 'bombshell' dresses (Dresses – Katya Wildman) are better. Sleeveless tend to accentuate a large bosom.

Hi, yes, I agree with all the previous posters - defined breasts don’t work for me and yet, in general, the more tight fitting a garment is then the more flattering it is on me. I also like button-downs or anything figure hugging.

I take the point too about strong features that draw away from the breasts. But my worst look is the current fashion for puffed sleeves. Whhhhyyyyy???? They make me look and feel like a large bridesmaid forced to wear a much younger girl’s dress - all resentful arms and boobs 😆!

That Wright London orange/pink thing is so clearly a dodgy photoshopped image. Why are people still linking to these scam sites?

Thinking perhaps they are being paid to do so.

Or we could continue to value the input from and interactions with each other on this forum.

Especially as AI has selected a wrap dress 🙄.

Bravissimo used to do dresses but stopped doing clothing and unsure if dresses were smart enough for weddings, maybe look on eBay/vinted.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 19/06/2026 08:35

I’m 28FF and now a size 14 but when I was 9 stone (I’m 5ft5) (size 10-12) my occasion dresses were all Coast, various styles. When I was 10 stone and in 40s, occasion wear then I wore were Sass and Bide, vintage or DVF (Diane von furstenberg). They were either halter neck or sort of higher but shoulder neck (but fitted round the bust area, which was important for larger boobs). Or an Issey Miyake pleats please midi black dress. If you do have a good vintage shop that sells evening wear it’s well worth a look, I found 60s and 70s dresses with a certain cut worked really well on me as an hourglass/curvy figure. You may want a brighter colour or lighter colour top half to balance out top half and minimise it and equal out the bottom half if you see what I mean.

StylishAndBeautiful · 19/06/2026 10:53

But my worst look is the current fashion for puffed sleeves. They add width, which I don't need. Regular sleeves are fine. I don't like sleeveless or tiny sleeves, and try to avoid ones that end at my bustline.

I like a collar, not a high round neck or boat neck and not a V-neck.

I like a vertical row of buttons

I'm in a similar situation as you and just bought this dress for a wedding in August. It is surprisingly comfortable and I think, flattering! It's from ' Girl in Mind' on line.

It's has absolutely nothing to do "with made in China".

Those sites are scam sites. They pretend to be based in the UK. Everything is fake. If they send anything at all, it will look nothing like the website. They will refuse a refund and the cost of returning the item to China is prohibitive. The site will cease trading in a couple of months. Posters on here have been caught out by sites like this, suggested on this forum.

It's really disingenuous to say you weren't suggesting she buys from them.

The comparison with Boden is ridiculous. These fraudulent sites are nothing like Boden - in fact they make Shein and Temu look respectable. At least Shein and Temu are honest about who and where they are and seem to deliver acceptable clothes.

Thank you for your warnings @PhaedraTwo

Unfortunately I read them only after I had very stupidly ordered the JessicabyBee dress suggested further up the thread.

i am always so careful online, but was in a rush to go out, thought I had found an answer to a burning Wedding guest dress dilemma, and acted without checking Trustpilot.

Lesson learned, I have clearly been well and truly scammed and have resolved that I will no longer risk buying anything online unless the company is already known to me.

Have spent the last two days kicking myself and feeling utterly incredulous at my gullibility.
