What make-up do you wear in your 60s?

I feel like I am behind the times with my make up. I wear concealer, pale eyeshadow, eyeliner along my top lashes and mascara every day as my eyelashes are pale and fine and my eyes disappear otherwise. I usually wear a soft pink lipstick. I wear foundation only if I am on a night out (rare) and do look better with it.

I like the defined eyebrows and eyelashes look but it doesn’t really suit my features. I noticed all the young women at my hairdressers recently had scraped back hair, sculpted eyebrows, lovely eyelashes and clear skin. That’s not my look at all!

These are the main products I use:
Next or Estée Lauder eyeshadow
Maybelline, Rimmel, Benefit or Soap and Glory mascara
Nars concealer and blush
Natural Collection tinted moisturiser
Estée Lauder double wear foundation
Max Factor pressed powder
Natural Collection eyebrow kit
L’oreal eyebrow pencil
Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner
L’oreal or Next sheer pink lipstick
Mac bright pink lipstick
Estée Lauder bright red lipstick (occasionally)
I don’t wear all that make-up day to day but just to give you an idea of the products I have.

What make up do you wear if you are in your 60s? I am 62. Any advice on products or application you can give me so I can update my look a bit?

On a normal day I wear a tinted moisturiser like Origins Vitazing, Estée Lauder double wear mascara with a bit of brown or bronze eye crayon, a Beauty Pie cream blush and a Boots No7 sheer lip tint. On nights out I have a Revolution primer, then No7 hydraluminous foundation and concealer, same mascara but prob a Victoria Beckham eyeliner in bronze then a bit deeper colour lipstick. I’ll put some Barbara Sturn glow drops on cheekbones and temple . Nothing complicated here, just a bit more effort with base on a night out!

Hello I’m 61 and no expert . Love make up but as I age not sure I am getting it ‘right’ more .
My routine on a work day when I have to be smart .
Sunblock /primer from Beauty Pie
Eyebrow powder to fill in the gaps and a comb through
Eyeliner on upper lids Stila
Beauty Pie or Bobbi Brown eyeshadow crayons so easy and quick !
Mascara benefit rollerball
Then a tiny bit of Charlotte Tilbury or Beauty Pie ‘glowy stuff’ on the cheek bones
Then Clinique or No 7 foundation but find I look better with a tinted moisturiser
Well worth trying .
Sometimes do the Chanel bronzer but never sure if it looks right or I am trying too hard
Prefer when I just do a bit of blush with my Clinique crayon blush .
Loved power lips back in the day currently using beauty pie crayon .
Try a tinted moisturiser - I look better with less coverage Didnt think I would but I do .
Primer and spf help
Good magnifying mirror to apply everything
Setting spray too not sure what it does but it does something !
Lastly confidence - good luck .

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser
Blusher
Lipstick

Less is more.

SabrinaThwaite · 05/06/2026 22:28

Factor 30 moisturiser and Clinique mascara.

I'm older than you and wanted to update so I went into Boots and spoke to the lady on the beauty counter. Between up we worked out which foundation (light finish, adapts to skin tone,) a mascara, eye crayon and lipstick.. I also have a dual use lip and cheek colour. You'll save a lot of money if you have a consultation of some kind.

RaininSummer · 05/06/2026 22:48

Protect and perfect day cream, max factor lasting performance foundation, dab of translucent powder and a little mascara and Burt's bees lip balm. Eyebrow pencil too as they have run away with my youth.

Tonissister · 05/06/2026 22:50

I wear neutral eyeshadow with a bit of glimmer in it as the matte ones make my skin look dull. Brow mascara in light brown, black lash mascara, a tiny bit of concealer and natural looking lipstick. I wear these even if I am not leaving the house, as I look much older, tired and grumpy if I don't, and I prefer to look the way I feel.

LoserWinner · 05/06/2026 22:54

I don’t wear make up at all. I never have since my early teens.

Floisme · 06/06/2026 07:53

My full make up these days is brow shaper, blusher and lip tint or lipstick. Often I just wear lipstick or no make up at all.

I used to wear more than this but it started looking ‘off’ and I just wasn’t interested enough to learn a new routine. Occasionally, out of curiosity, I try eye make up but, now I’ve adjusted to how my face looks without, I really dislike the effect. I do wear specs so my eyes get some definition anyway.

Fraughtmum · 06/06/2026 08:00

I'm 67.
I wear Eborium CC cream, Charlotte Tilbury under eye concealer, Bobbi Brown neutral eyestick ( think its sandune), Elf mascara, a Mac cream blusher and neutral lipstick.
That's all that's in my makeup bag.
I have my eyelashes lifted which makes a huge difference.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 06/06/2026 08:06

I don't wear make up at all . I find lipstick bleeds into the lines around my mouth . Foundation settles in the wrinkles and exacerbates them and mascara makes my eyes run . I just moisturise and stay out of the sun now l am older .

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 06/06/2026 08:13

Having been a full face woman for many years im down to cc cream (cancer council one i got in Australia), nyx powder eyebrow pencil. Revolution tubing mascara in plum, blusher and tinted lip balm. At 66 it really is just for my benefit.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/06/2026 08:15

Polyfilla and Ronseal 'Natural Oak' Woodstain.
For the backs of hands, pink Marigold rubber gloves with the glove fingers cut off.

TheyGrewUp · 06/06/2026 08:19

66 here.

Every day and it takes 2-3 minutes:
Clinique Even Better Clinical Serum Foundation (I found Estee Double Wear too heavy)
No7, concealer (shadows under eyes - always had them)
Clinique Chubby stick blusher and highlighter
No7, translucent loose powder
Lancome satin lipstick - pinkish shades: Rose Nu 06 and La Belle Est Vie 08
Lancome Hypnose mascara

Plus: Estee Day and Night ceam and eye cream.

Occasions:
I add an eyebrow pencil (light brown)
Very lightly applied brown eyeliner
Very neutral eyeshadow - three colours (browny/taupe/cream) blended, as I was taught.

It sounds a lot but produces a natural, unmakeupey look that is better than my naked face and I have pretty good, clear skin.

I’m in my mid-sixties. I’ve been having regular chats with ChatGPT recently about hair and skincare. It’s determined to wean me off a couple of Barbara Sturm things that it thinks can be replicated much more cheaply. I tried. It’s wrong. We are still negotiating.

Make-up wise I use very little. No foundation, never have. During lockdown, after a fortunate free gift, I started using Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow - which had a miraculous effect on screen. Weirdly it doesn’t work so well offscreen so my use has tailed off. I’m open to experimenting with alternative summer glow giving unguents.

Brows - a combination of Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer and the same brand’s Volumizing Tinted Brow Gel. But I do really need to get my brows tinted.

Mascara - used to be Tom Ford, which just worked. Last year I bought an emergency Lancôme Idole Flutter Extension and have used it without complaint for a year. But another free gift - Victoria Beckham Vast Lash - has blown my mind. Extraordinary long feathery lashes. So I’m about to order the full size of that.

Lips - currently alternating between Westland Atelier Hydrobalm Tinted Lipstick (in Bob) and my gradually expanding collection of Dries van Noten lip colours. (Amazing luck that so many of them suit me - really justifies the cost of the beautiful case.) Currently trying to commit to ordering a lip liner, probably from Westman Atelier, or maybe VB. I have a VB lip brush which is a thing of cunning beauty.

That’s it at the moment. I do miss eyeliner and may add some come autumn. I don’t keep a vast wardrobe of cosmetics and only have things I use every time I’m leaving the house.

I rely heavily on Tweezerman tweezers and dermaplaning tool.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 06/06/2026 08:26

Im 58. I get my eyelashes and eyebrows tinted every 2-3 weeks (I'm v fair). I use a tinted lip balm.

If Im pushing the boat out (rare), I wear mascara and a tinted moisturiser. I dabble in under eye concealer occasionally.

I just cant be arsed.

Love it 🤣🤣🤣

AelinAG · 06/06/2026 08:43

If you like defined brows, you could try getting Korean brows done

ChurchYardFromMyWindow · 06/06/2026 08:53

I stopped wearing make up when I retired. SPF every day and Simple face cream at night. The freedom from it is heaven for me.

BunnyLake · 06/06/2026 09:03

I stopped wearing make up about ten year’s ago. When everyone (including myself) is used to your unadorned face, I’d fear I’d just look like Baby Jane.

SeditiousPam · 06/06/2026 09:06

I would be miserable if I were forced to stop playing with lipsticks!

The only cosmetic I use with the specific aim of improving on nature is mascara. Other than that I use it only for enjoyment and the fun of variety. I’m perfectly happy to go about my day barefaced, but a few moments in front of my mirror is a natural part of the ritual of preparation for me - like ironing a shirt or polishing my boots.

muddyford · 06/06/2026 09:07

I rarely wear makeup at all. But my eyebrows have turned white so a spot of tinted gel brushed through gives my face some definition. Also a rose pink lipbalm occasionally. Otherwise just everyday skincare and SPF. No lines or wrinkles at 63.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 06/06/2026 09:10

I find make up weird. I was chatting with my next door neighbour yesterday and I realised I was looking more at her make up than at her, IYSWIM. It was a distraction from the person.
She's in her 60s and I'm 71 and never wore skin make up, always hated lippy, just eye make up probably last worn 40 years ago-ish?

It's a money making confidence undermining scam IMHO.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/06/2026 09:16

I'm 62. I rarely wear foundation (have pretty clear even skin). I use a Heliocare SPF which is lightly tinted, some eye lid primer and soft neutral eyeshadow (Estée Lauder). Grey eyeliner, mascara (currently an Estee Lauder one), Benetint for blusher and I have various different lipsticks which I use but they last about an hour before disappearing 🙄😂. Sometimes a dab of powder (a Soap and Glory one) if I need it.

I had my eyebrows nanobladed as they didn't really grow back that well post chemotherapy. Don't have to do anything to them.
