Wedding guest dress options

Need help! Which of these dresses do you think is most appropriate to wear as a guest to a wedding in France. I love the first one but my daughter has said she thinks it’s too white (& therefore to be avoided in the tradition of only brides wear white). Would value any views. It’s going to be hot so I can’t add a coloured jacket. Many thanks!

Love the pink one !

Batterseamama · 05/06/2026 11:38

Brilliant thanks for all your advice- the pink one it is then (I don’t have time to find a more formal alternative to any of these), hopefully it will be a relaxed occasion! The first dress is from me and em for the person who asked. Thanks again!

The last one is the best in my opinion, first is white and too casual, second is too casual also.

Lifeomars · 05/06/2026 12:54

Love the pink one, want it for me!

Violinist64 · 05/06/2026 12:54

The pink floral dress is the one that stands out to me. It is lovely and also looks as if it will keep you cool.

BitLippie · 05/06/2026 12:56

The pink one could be made to look the most ‘dressy’ with the right hair, shoes and accessories.

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 05/06/2026 16:59

I like the first one and I only think white is an issue if there's a chance you'd look bridal and that dress definitely isn't giving bridal, it's patterned. I like the others too, they're all a fairly similar shape, just slightly different patterns and they all suit you. I think outside at a wedding, when it's hot, go for what you feel comfy and light/airy in....

It’s not about being bridal. It’s about the bride being the only person there is white so she stands out, if all the women dressed in white outfits it would be very difficult.

and it’s about not having other people in white in the pics.

nannyoffour · 05/06/2026 18:11

The pink one is the prettiest

truffleruffle · 05/06/2026 18:13

My favourite is the second pink one it’s gorgeous for a summer wedding and is definitely flattering.

SolarInk · 05/06/2026 19:06

The pink one

Overtheatlantic · 05/06/2026 19:15

The second one, pink and purple, is the best of a great lot! And your sandals are beautiful. I like your style!

MrsMitford3 · 05/06/2026 20:24

Is it a particularly casual wedding?

Think all the dresses much more like casual sundresses and yes the first one is much too white, why would you???

So it is a no for all of them for me unless it is a picnic.

I was just at a wedding last weekend and these dresses would have been so out of place!!

santamole · 05/06/2026 20:29

You will be wearing a big statement pink hat a la Cote d'Azur style I hope With the pink dress I mean!

PhaedraTwo · 05/06/2026 20:42

The pink dress is East from Monsoon. It's lovely on the OP but the full site shows just how nice it is.

It's cotton lined in cotton voile. For the "it's too casual brigade" it's the sort of dress you get loads of wear out. Fancy enough for a wedding but not embarrassingly OTT if you just fancy wearing a pretty dress.

I like all 3 dresses. I'd happily wear all of them.

They are all white so none of them. White is completely unacceptable at a French wedding.

what is your budget etc?

They are all white yes, I think that’s why everyone is picking the pink as it’s the least white.

im always always surprised by the sheer amount of women who get a wedding invite in and want to wear white, there are so many colours, pick something else, just why,

It's lovely. Not surprised it's sold out!

Why is everyone suddenly ONLY able to buy dresses with a majority white background 🤣🤣 the other colours and options are endless, it seems bonkers to me!

Right?! If you go to related threads there are so many threads about this! They know it’s weird as why post otherwise?

I know. The only colour you cannot wear is white/cream to be respectful to the bride. There are thousands of options.

I didn't pick the pink because it's the least white. It's a lovely dress and I could go for either the white or the pink. Like the pink dress the black and white is also cotton and cotton lined. I like the way Selfridges have styled it with black shoes and black bag. It's not remotely bridal.

The lighting in the OP's photo doesn't do the 3rd dress justice.

So so many, so many threads can I wear white to a wedding. The posters clearly know it’s an issue as otherwise why ask.

it seems like some klaxon call in some women’s minds, wedding you say, let me get a white dress.

MildlyAnnoyed · 06/06/2026 07:24

I like the pink one

upsofloating · 06/06/2026 08:27

The pink - not because it's the 'least white' but because it's the prettiest.
