Do you wear foundation every day if you have clear skin?

I wear foundation every day despite having clear skin, albeit some slight redness around my nose which would easily be hidden with concealer. Lately when I’ve taken my makeup off at the end of the day (I take base makeup off first)I think that I look better without it but I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve had it on for a whole day at that point? I wear a full face every day for context, not just foundation.

I’m not a good example I guess as I almost never wear makeup. In my view very few people look better overall with it in daylight, particularly past the age of 22 or so, but they can definitely look different, more finished/groomed which is a reasonable choice.

Having said all that, I’ve recently bought some foundation for the first time in years and have worn it maybe once a week on my cheeks only. I haven’t gone as far as contour or blush.

No I don’t wear foundation every day but I do wear concealer where it’s needed. I’ve never worn a ‘full face’ and as I’ve got older I think I look better with less make-up. To be honest, the ‘full face’ look seems to have had its day. It’s rare now to see anyone with loads of make-up on. Those that do tend to look a bit out of date. Most of the women I work with have moved to a fresher look, if that makes sense?

Iloveeverycat · 04/06/2026 19:44

No not even for work. Only if I am going out in the evening. And as I am older would not wear foundation instead I would use bb cream.

user593 · 04/06/2026 19:44

No, but I’m a SAHM. I might wear it more if I was working in an office. I’m also 40+ and I think it can be a bit counterproductive at my age. I enjoy using it when I do but I love not having to wear it every day (I used to have awful skin, so I felt I had to, and it was such a chore).

Mapleandleaves · 04/06/2026 19:47

No. Only for nights out or big days out. I think makeup becomes a self fulfilling prophecy in the sense that the more you wear it the more you need it as it causes skin problems. I've tried make up at every price point and regular use causes skin issues for me.

Nincompoo · 04/06/2026 19:48

I wear makeup about once a month, if that I wouldn’t say my skin is clear, I have some sun damage and can be prone to rosacea but I still think I look better without it.

Chica1990 · 04/06/2026 19:49

I like to think I have clear skin but it's dry. I find the pale coloured foundations really chalky now and they always end up wearing off patchy. If I'm wearing making up I'll do everything but the foundation (so concealer and powders in terms of base)

Theseagullsarenowclouds · 04/06/2026 19:51

I don't even own any make up, so no.

livelovelough24 · 04/06/2026 20:07

I do, I am in my fifties and wore it more or less my whole life. Mine is medium coverage so it does not cover everything, but I feel better with it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/06/2026 20:09

Never. If I go out out I may wear tinted moisturiser

IndieRocknRoll · 04/06/2026 20:10

I have fairly decent skin but have a bit of rosacea across my checks and some areas of large pores. I wear a light dewy foundation at work and if I go out. I like the way it evens out my skin tone and reduces the look of my pores. I also need blush else I’m quite pale and it doesn’t look right applied straight into my skin.

I’m working towards reducing how often I wear it though. I’m trying to improve my natural skin with a red light mask & Microneedling. Hoping eventually I can the get away with just a bb cream.

MachineBee · 04/06/2026 20:10

Never wear it unless I’m having a professional photograph taken in a studio (for work pics) once in a blue moon.

Goldenbear · 04/06/2026 20:16

No we my skin is looks quite healthy and better without foundation. I don't like the feel of foundation and literally no tone suits me.

DoughnutDreamer · 04/06/2026 20:16

I’ve got good skin and I wear a cc cream everyday, along with light blusher, mascara and light eyeshadow. I love makeup so I won’t stop using it but I do find I use very little product compared to when I was younger (I’m 45). A tiny bit of cc cream goes a long way.

Oops, sorry about that muddled post.

I wear a light foundation every day as although I have good skin I find my colouring annoyingly uneven. Been doing it this way for decades. It also helps with skin moisture I think as I am dry thing.

ainsleysanob · 04/06/2026 20:19

I never ever wear foundation. I just don’t think it looks very good and I can’t stand the feel of it in my face! I wear a good primer and go over my face with Benefit Hoola and some blush!

RaininSummer · 04/06/2026 20:24

I don't even understand primer. I assumed it was used under foundation but I've never tried it.

troothfairy · 04/06/2026 20:24

BB cream for everyday wear if I’m seeing people, proper foundation just for nights out as it looks too heavy in broad daylight. Both only used sparingly on cheeks, I’ve never put makeup on my forehead/nose/chin.

Also not familiar with primer, what’s a good one and what does it do?

Echobelly · 04/06/2026 20:26

I'm 48 with fairly clear skin. I only wear foundation when going into the office or going out in the evening.

RaininSummer · 04/06/2026 20:42

Just googled Hoola. Don't understand that either really. Is is just face powder? So primer sounds like colourless foundation and you put coloured powder on that? Maybe? All these new fangled products I don't know about.

champagnePicnic · 04/06/2026 21:02

I only wear it if I’m absolutely forced too for a nice event like a wedding or a date night etc. probably wear it a few times a year. I do always do my brows and mascara (plus lashlift). I have spent a lot of money on skincare and treatments over the years so don’t feel I need foundation.

Mintearo7 · 04/06/2026 21:29

No only for special occasions. Mostly because I like my skin to breathe. I pop a bit of mascara, concealer etc on if I’m seeing friends or going into the office but wear waaay less make up then I used to at age 41.

1emma19 · 05/06/2026 07:28

For me not all the time.

Regarding your concern tinted moisturizer/skin tint with a touch of green color corrector just on that area might give you what you want, without the weight of a full foundation daily. It's worth trying a foundation-free week & seeing how you feel about what you see!
