Do you buy original perfumes, dupes or a mixture?

What perfumes do I like. Do U wear dupes or the original expensive perfumes? I like 'surprise' perfume, which is supposed to be very similar to scandal. I also like black opium (can't justify paying the price though). I have dupes of it, although my hubby did buy me a small bottle of the original, which I use for special occasions. Just curious if people buy originals or dupes or a mixture?

I have a mixture, I tend to stick
to my favourites in originals and dupes for ones that are currently popular. At least if it doesn’t suit me, I’ve only wasted £20 or so not £100 +.

JillThePlantKiller · 01/06/2026 19:02

Real, but only because it’s an easy present for dh to buy. If I was buying it for myself, I’d spend less and wear dupes.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 01/06/2026 19:03

I go nose blind very quickly.

I can't help thinking dupes might not last as long?

Happy to be proved wrong.

smallchange · 01/06/2026 19:08

I've bought loads of Noted Aroma dupes in the 5ml testers because I like to change what I wear a lot.

I've got a couple that I really like and am considering the larger sizes but I've heard they don't last as long. The testers do last on me.

No way could I justify paying for the real versions.

A mixture.

I actually had someone comment on my perfume last week -it was a dupe and she recognised it (thinking it was the original). I’d been wearing it at least 4 hours and couldn’t even smell it on myself.

Noted Aromas are very good for long lasting dupes. A woman in work smells incredible all day after only spraying once in the morning.

I buy a mixture. I love Tom Ford's Portofino Neroli, when the original bottle started to run low, I replaced it with a real one and a dupe. Dupe is great for day to day, but the original has better staying power and a more intense aroma.

That's funny, I found Neroli Portofino disappeared quickly on me and I bought a dupe that lasts until the next day.

Ooh which dupe did you find that lasted well? Thanks!

Mixture. I have an Aldi dupe of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille which is incredible, one of Marc Jacobs Decadence and a dupe of Jo Malone Poppy and Barley.

None of these are my favourites though. I love some versions of Avon Far Away which are too cheap to need a dupe and my all-time fave I would only buy the real thing (D&G The One).

TwoeightTwoeightTwoOhhhh · 01/06/2026 21:10

i don’t like the big brands because most of them test on animals and I don’t want to support that unnecessary cruelty.
so i buy a mix of brands like penhaligons or liberty for the treats (ie paid for by DH) or stick to the cheaper ones like Next that are also cruelty free.
i find the Next ones smell just as good but I’m not sure they last as long (or maybe i just tell myself that to justify the pricey ones)

Originals only. Though I do have an everyday perfume (changes often throughout the year) and a favourite perfume to wear that makes me feel special.

StormGazing · 01/06/2026 21:16

Only originals, I have a sensitive nose and can smell the difference too much. I generally only wear a few and buy big bottles so they last

ThisHardyAnt · 01/06/2026 21:20

The only perfume a wear on daily basis is Dior Addict the original in the dark purple/blue bottle and buy it duty free and always try to have a spare one in my cupboard. Never found any dupes of it and not sure I would buy. I tend to think the £115 ish is my treat from my holidays and only buy the 100mls bottle to get the best value

Livpool · 01/06/2026 21:27

A mix - I got a lovely Kayali vanilla dupe from
Amazon. And I don’t know what it js a dupe of but the Tesco skin scent in Flower Chain is so lovely! I sniff myself constantly when I wear it 😂😂

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/06/2026 21:29

I would never buy a dupe.

It’s not right, just like buying fakes, ripping off someone’s work.

And there is no need. There are plenty of reasonably priced original perfumes out there.

Shallysally · 01/06/2026 21:35

Originals, I wear DKNY DeliciousOrchard or the Ted Baker Jasmine and Lime for every day wear.
DP bought me a Creed perfume that lasts forever, I love Marc Jacobs Daisy dream too.

It's an Etsy seller, the AntiSocial Perfume Club but he's in NYC.

I used to not do dupes, but I now have no problem after seeing some of these cosmetic company owners and their ties with Epstein and the hoarding of wealth by the billionaire firm owners and the effects of that. I still have originals, but when they're gone, they're done.

Fashion gets duped, so do perfumes and makeup. It's always been like that.

Livpool · 01/06/2026 21:41

For original perfumes my favourites are/were:
Mugler Alien
Dior Addict
Coco Chanel
DKNY Be Delicious Blossom
Armani Code (parfum)
Chloe Love Story (wore on my wedding day but no longer available)

ScarlettSunset · 01/06/2026 21:45

I buy originals. Though I tend to buy sample sizes initially and then if I really love it, I'll splash out on a full size bottle.
I find I need to wear a scent several times before I decide if it's really one for me.

LasVegass · 01/06/2026 21:54

Originals only. I buy/get one at Christmas and it lasts for half a year, maybe longer. Then one again on holiday in the summer. I have old-fashioned taste in perfumes, I don’t even know if there are dupes for them. I don’t spend too much on myself otherwise (eg hate having nails done, maybe once every 2-3 years), so I’m ok with paying the usual price for perfumes.

practicalmagictime · 01/06/2026 21:58

A mixture
anything from perfume parlour dupes to next, H&M, Zara to £££

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 01/06/2026 22:00

Originals all the way.

I love noted aromas - they really last and I have so many compliments (Monte Carlo)

TheChosenTwo · 01/06/2026 22:39

I just buy originals but one full size ld bottle lasts around 7/8 months and I have 2 or 3 on the go at once so not a massive expenditure in the grand scheme of things. Dh usually buys me one for Christmas and again if we are travelling somewhere (holiday perfume anyone?! I do wear it until it runs out but airports mean new sunglasses and new perfume for me 😂) and I’ll usually pick myself up one at some point throughout the year.

Harriet36 · 02/06/2026 06:18

I buy roll on perfume oils in various scents and they are long lasting, no animal testing and no ties to Epstein. Also easy to put in a makeup bag/travel wash bag. I used to insist on original perfumes until I did some research.
