What to wear to April wedding in Italy?

Does anyone know the general vibe is for guests at Italian weddings please?

I know I could ask the bride and groom but they're the sort of people who will say "wear what you like! We're just happy to have you etc etc" but as it's an intimate wedding, I'd like to "fit in" with the majority Italian family/guests and not miss the mark.

Key wedding details:

  • It's in northern Italy in April (near the Lakes)
  • it is not a religious ceremony/no church
  • Private restaurant-type venue for the evening with a five-course dinner (can't bloody wait)

My stats:

  • 5'8" size 12, small-breasted with larger thighs
  • I will be breastfeeding so need to be able to at least lower a shoulder down to pop a tit out, but separates also work very well
  • I will either wear flats or a very low heel
  • I suit soft warm colours and don't generally wear any bold pattern

Budget: £100-200

I would be grateful for any general pointers or any suggestions. Many thanks :)

I’d definitely wear a little heel, I’ve just bought these taupe suede thong kitten heels from ASOS and they are fantastic, will go with most dresses…

I’d then decide if you’re wearing silver or gold jewellery and build your outfit around that. What colours do you like?

It won’t be warm in the Northern Lakes in early April so ensure you have a jacket or shawl. Italian weddings are very dressy.

Oh yes, a lovely cream blazer! I took a cream Zara one on holiday recently and wore it virtually every night, I’ve never taken away a blazer before but was amazed how versatile it was - I also felt more comfortable wearing silky camis in the evening, so it really didn’t impact on the luggage weight.

Oh don’t say a cream blazer and a wedding in one thread. It will leave the haters frothing at the mouth saying it’s too white/cream/close to a wedding dress nonsense!

A trouser suit might work OP. As a poster above said, it likely won’t be warm so the jacket would help. There are quite a few around at the moment so you could start to try on and get a feel for what you like and see if it works with a breast feeding top.

Oh God @craftycowbag lost my mind for a moment and forgot where I was😂 There’s a lovely premium linen suit on Tu at the moment, side sip trousers with sleeveless blazer, I’ve ordered it in the green, not arrived yet

I'm a gold girl! I gravitate towards oranges, browns and corals

Edited

Could please you elaborate on "very dressy"? This is exactly what I am worried about. Do you have any examples of dresses that would fit the bill?

A silky cami with a trouser and blazer is a great idea, and the kitten mules above

Never would have considered a trouser suit but I think that is going to be the perfect solution, thank you

I’ve been to a few family weddings in Italy recently and none were what I would describe as very dressy! The dress codes have been very relaxed and there’s been a wide range of styles.

Ohhh conflicting info...but that's good if it means there's likely to be more of a mix to blend in with

It’s sold out just now but Sezane has this lovely dress which would be BF friendly - https://www.sezane.com/en-en/product/fitia-dress/estate-print#size-6

Have you walked anywhere in them yet? As I know they're very in right now, but they look as if your foot would slip & slide in them as they have absolutely NO foot support - bar a thong strip between & across your toes?!!

Lots of Italian towns are cobbled etc & I would feel very perilous in those ... even if I was only teetering around the wedding location. For Italy I'd probably go for a mule version - also very in, but with more foot support/coverage. Some on the same link you sent, below. Or a wedge version of the toe post would also be easier to walk in while still being in.

Still a bit too much leeway for foot slippage for me though! Plus I prefer real leather/suede - these are suedette so I think they'd wear/mark quickly?

What about a matching top & trousers/skirt? Where the top is either button-through or able to be pulled down?

Something like this? Really easily dressed up, & a gorgeous colour. Or you could wear just the waistcoat top under a cream (🙀!!!) trouser suit?*

Theyve even styled it with toe-post heels 😁

*Other colours are available - I'm just waiting, as PPs have said, for the usual comments!

Or a trouser version - though this might be too cool a pink for you?

@ThatLoudSquid - I realise that the Boden two-piece is about £200 so over your budget. But as the wedding isn't until next year, you can swoop in at the start of the sales & get much better value & higher quality??

It will definitely be under budget then. You might need to wait til the sales anyway if you want a two-piece or trouser suit anyway - as they're almost certainly going to be dearer than a dress. Is your £100-150 including a jacket or not? (Already assuming it doesn't include footwear & accessories.)

I absolutely love that set. It could well be the one! Thank you

I actually asked now so I could bookmark a few things ahead of the sales starting - great minds think alike heh heh!

Oh good - I think it's lovely, & you'd get shitloads of wear out of the two pieces separately!

Before I remembered that it was in April not July, I did spot this salmon-pink/coral pure silk one-shouldered dress on eBay ... By Joseph so is an absolute bargain for something that was probably about £400 originally. But even if you can hoik a boob out easily (it's elasticated so I think it's fine), it might be a bit on the chilly side ... It's lovely though!

There are two in a French 40, which I think is a 12, on eBay - both under £50. Maybe you should get it anyway, in case it's unseasonably warm ...!!

I also spotted these mules a while ago & thought they were really cute! I realise they're probably not as versatile as plain beige ones, but I had to post them anyway as they're so lovely ....

They describe them as brown & white, but they look like a warm dusky coral-pink to me? Not seen in person though.
