I need sandals but I'm starting to fall into the 'oh they are nice and would go with...'

How many pairs do you own?

God… white flattish pair, red flats, blue flats. Red wedges, blue wedges. Gold, pink & blue (3 separate pairs) of fake Birkenstocks; brown pair real Birks; 3 pairs of walking sandals, two Keen & 1 Merrel. Oh, and a pair of grey leather flip-flops. Plus two pairs of silk kitten heel sling backs which aren’t technically sandals, but only come out in dry warm weather.

So that’s 15.

Edited to add: if Crocs count, another two pairs, one by the front door for taking stuff to the car/bins/front garden, one by the back for garden/garage trips.

DappledThings · 26/05/2026 14:55

One. I only like one of most types of things. One pair of trainers, one pair of black ankle boots, one pair of sandals etc.

I tend to have one of most footwear. I don't have room to store lots and as I WFH most of the time I'm not in shoes/sandals anyway. I can't get my head around owning 20 pairs of sandals. I try to buy a pair that will go with most outfits rather than match every single outfit individually.

People who have no sandals, what do you wear when it’s really warm?

trainers!
I have flat feet and wear orthotics so wearing sandals is more uncomfortable than having hot feet!

MiddleAgedDread · 26/05/2026 16:07

I'm not sure if I still own any other than a pair of sliders and some cheap flipflops for poolside / gym showers.

SinceYouSaySo · 26/05/2026 16:08

I have feet like a gargoyle, so I have sandals but no open toe.

I have flat feet and have some Skechers arch fit sandals for when I am doing any significant amount of walking.

I can't bear to wear trainers in this heat.

I'm in either Converse boots or Rocket Dog tennis shoe style trainers.
I don't take my socks off unless it's 30C or above!

It’s a benefit of being old. I don’t buy them to match anything in particular. I’ve just acquired them over donkey’s years, and I couldn’t care less whether they are fashionable or not, and because I have lots, each pair (apart from my walking sandals) gets lightly worn so lasts ages. Both pairs of wedges date back to at least the 1980s, and the newest pair of sandals I own - apart from my Keens - are from 2018.

Even my walking sandals, which get a lot of heavy wear, last me at least five years, usually closer to ten.

AnnaQuayRules · 26/05/2026 16:57

Loads!

I've got several pairs of FitFlops in different colours, plus 2 pairs of Birkenstock dupes in black and beige. Then I've got 2 or 3 pairs of wedges. If espadrilles count then I've got a pair of those as well.

Plus a ridiculously high pair of scrappy sandals that I can't even walk in, but keep in case I'm.invited anywhere posh!

Berlinlover · 26/05/2026 16:57

Two pairs from Primark and they are so comfortable.

i just can't wear sandals, they don't have enough support in them for me. even walking round a hotel resort on holiday in flipflops is bad enough.
Also, am I the only person who finds walking around with no socks on a bit gross? It makes your feet dirty and dry and the skin really hard.

FredaMountfitchet · 26/05/2026 17:39

Ooh warehouse gold flat sandals.

RampantIvy · 26/05/2026 21:35

What is so gross about seeing clean, well manicured feet in sandals?
I don't have hard skin on my feet as I use a foot file weekly and use foot cream after every shower.

How do you have room to store all that footwear @Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain ?

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 26/05/2026 21:42

About 10 pairs. 1 wedge sketchers sandle, 1 pair of docs and then the rest Birkenstocks which I’ve accumulated over the years

ShetlandishMum · 26/05/2026 21:44

1 pair.
Joy of a small home.

DuaneBarry · 26/05/2026 21:45

One pair of Birkenstocks. They’re the only sandals I find remotely comfortable and tbh I’m not really a big sandal fan, but o do feel like wearing them improves my posture majorly so I should wear them more!

About 30 pairs

LilyCanna · 26/05/2026 22:41

As soon as it gets hot I swap my trainers for sandals, even if it’s jeans and a t shirt hot weather rather than summer dress hot weather. Otherwise my feet feel really hot and constricted!
@MiddleAgedDread yes my feet can get dirty in sandals but I use a pumice stone in the shower to get them properly clean and have a heavy duty moisturiser for my heels. One of the nice things about sandals outside / bare feet indoors weather is washing my feet before bed and getting into bed with clean feet.
I wonder if people who don’t like wearing sandals don’t like going barefoot either. For me walking barefoot on soft grass is a luxury.
