I am starting a fashion business. Can you tell me which of 3 green colour you prefer for a maxi dress, and if possible why you prefer it? It’s for one of my dresses. I would be grateful ☺️

I’ve just bought a massimo dutti maxi dress in olive green. Definitely not lime green for me - I prefer muted shades and not bright colours. I’m not sure how much gaining lots of individual preferences will help?

SerenitySeeker4 · 25/05/2026 08:15

I prefer sage green, because it suits me.

queenofwandss · 25/05/2026 08:15

Probably the lightest green out of those 3, but I personally don’t suit those yellowy green.
Good luck with your business!

OrangeTipsOnTheHonesty · 25/05/2026 08:15

The green on the right is the one I like best, but not enough to buy a whole dress I it. I like almost all shades of green, but if I'm buying a plain fabric dress the colour has to be absolutely right. However this probably isn't the thread for me, because I wouldn't wear a maxi dress.

I'm actually looking for a plain green dress, but haven't seen anything I like yet. I swear there were loads last year...

The middle, darkest. Though I would prefer a much darker, more blue green or a deep olive.

endofthelinefinally · 25/05/2026 08:24

It depends who it is for and their colouring/ what suits them.

PhaedraTwo · 25/05/2026 08:25

The middle darkest one. I really dislike the lime green.

dizzydizzydizzy · 25/05/2026 08:26

I prefer the 2 darker greens because they suit me
better. Not sure that helps though because some people will probably look better on tbe yellowy green.

MynameisnotJohn · 25/05/2026 08:30

I am your woman! I love green and have three green maxi dresses. The one on the right. Not the light one. Depends a lot on the fabric/style though. That’s heavy looking fabric so is it a structured type dress? If it was a floaty thing then possibly the lighter one.
Can you give rough idea of the style? How wide is the skirt? What is the top shape/sleeves?

MynameisnotJohn · 25/05/2026 08:32

Agree that bright greens had a moment 1-3 years ago. Moving more to sage and olive now. I still love bright apple greens though.

Screamingabdabz · 25/05/2026 08:38

Seeing as you asked - none of them. Any of those colours would be a lot, especially in a maxi dress.

As a shorter person, I’d love a fashion shop to not produce maxi dresses! And I’d like some classy prints or pastels instead of block prime colours. Not prints with huge ugly palm leaves, big roses or Italian postcards - just pretty and subtle.

Placestogo · 25/05/2026 08:39

I quite like the lighter green because for me maxi dress = sunshine, sea and light colour

Ditsy florals were everywhere around the time of the pandemic along with white trainers so feel dated now.

I don't agree with colours being "in fashion".
I wear colours that suit me, not what is "in".
Emerald green is a star colour for me, so I will wear it regardless of whether it is "in" or not.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 25/05/2026 09:59

I would want the designer of the dress to know exactly what s/he wants to achieve with any particular shade. That’s what I’m paying for.

Savvysix1984 · 25/05/2026 10:06

Green is my favourite colour to wear but I prefer darker tones. If I had to choose any it would be the middle one. I think the lime one is a bit too neon (tacky).

EffortlesslyDedicated · 25/05/2026 10:18

I like block colours or bold prints of single colour/white for summer dresses, pastels don't suit me at all and I agree small floral prints are a bit dated.

Newmeagain · 25/05/2026 10:23

These are nice colours BUT I think most people are looking for more muted colours.

henlake7 · 25/05/2026 10:23

I think the top one looks more of an olive green which is probably the most current shade.
(I think alot of the more muted autumn colours this summer are putting some people off but its all my fav shades so Im loving it!!).

boundarysponge · 25/05/2026 10:38

I like all of them in theory but would look I’ll the moment I put them on

SparklyGlitterballs · 25/05/2026 10:43

Sadly I too wouldn't wear those greens as a solid block colour. I've got a lovely olive green maxi that I wear loads. If one of those darker greens was an accent on another colour dress I'd maybe go for it.

Apileofballyhoo · 25/05/2026 10:47

The centre. The right would probably suit me better but the centre is a lovely colour. The lime is a bit marmite and a lot for a maxi dress.

What a passive aggressive response, the OP clearly asked people to provide reasons why they would or wouldn’t choose these colours

😂 thanks, you’ve made me laugh! Passive aggressive 🤣🤣🤣

Dressdesigner · 25/05/2026 15:37

Oh wow. I didn’t expect so many replies. Thank you so much to all the posters who commented here. I am so grateful for your replies.

Those who don’t like any of the colours, is it because it doesn’t suit their skin tone or just a personal preference?

Strimmertime · 25/05/2026 15:39

They wouldn’t suit my skin tone.
