Anyone seen any nice summer dresses for Apple shapes? I’m late 40s, size 12 to 14, menopausal weight gain not doing wonders for my roundness if km honest!

I always have this problem with finding summer dresses, but this year I want to get in early!

I think the blue Uniqlo one you posted would be flattering.

The best ones for me are the type that cross over on the bust and have an empire line beneath. I’m trying to find an example.

Drop waists look awful in me as the seam sits underneath and I look pregnant! I avoid anything with a seam below my natural waist line basically, so no tiers/ruffles etc

Best shapes for me are a shirt dress and thise with a dropped waist. Try a few on.

I’ve off to a wedding in July, have been trying on alsorts, eveything looked dreadful! Tried on a dropped waisted dress which was already in my wardrobe and I’d forgotten about, and it’s perfect.

I think this looks promising

I agree!

Drop waists look awful on me.

Me too

I’m a similar shape, try a starlight dress from nobody’s child: https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/pink-and-red-striped-starlight-midi-dress-d253353pnk
love the definition it gives my non-existent waist, and all cotton so cool and flowy. I’m only a B cup though so I don’t worry about it being too booby like some of the reviews say.

Similar issues here! I recently bought this as it was surprisingly flattering when I tried it on… www.fatface.com/style/su770195/w76390

That's gorgeous, and has just had me ordering a dress I really don't need; wondering how much boobage it might fit though!

@Bluestofblue drop waist dresses are very forgiving for an apple 😊

Ah no. Under no circumstances is a drop waist dress a good choice for an apple shape.
I’m doing a lot of the Shirred top and straight bottom type dresses for my apple body.

Fat Face Remi is a lovely shape for apples.

I know this is a bit random but my local boutique owner is 6 months pregnant so I’m looking at her pics online and if it’s flattering on her tummy, I know it will be flattering on mine!

@Bluestofblue I saw this in store yesterday and the blue isnt as bright at all. It felt very lab coat looking.

I have a few dresses from h&m, strappy at top, then slightly a line down. The material is stiffer but looks stylish

I find the most flattering shape to be a loose dress but with the back of the waist brought in, either like the Fat Face dress above that had shirring at the back, or a shirt dress but having the belt tie at the back, so it only runs to the side loops then back to the back of the dress.

That way, you are skimming the tummy but still creating shape at the side and back.

Agree with others that empire line and dropped waists are a disaster as I look 6 months pregnant in both options.😭

Is that from the Manamou website @minnowonthesay ?

I’m an apple with a small waist, good legs and arms and chest but a bulgy stomach area. Best dress shapes for me are shirred strapless maxi dresses (just bought a lovely one in Next in navy, they had different colours and petite length), milkmaid dresses with a deep neck, shirring then kind of A-line an tiered skirt. I got a lovely one on Vinted from new look and there’s lots of colours available on there. Also wrap play suits, wrap maxi dresses, cycling or short shorts with a loose t shirt or strappy top with a shirt over, and a line mini length sun dresses, I got a nice black one from next last summer that has a lovely neck line and ruffled cap sleeves and is linen or linen blend so can be thrown over swim stuff. I find I need the waist to be mid or high as I’m narrow there and my tummy weight is at the bottom, if it’s dropped waist or even worse a bubble hem (yuck) I look awful.

minnowonthesay · Yesterday 10:04

@deeahgwitch yes, the owner is pregnant so all clothes are being modelled on an apple shape right now!

Noooo!
Drop waisted dresses makes apples look like cubes on sticks.

To flatter any shape you need to make a waist and for an apple if helps to widen the shoulders.

Shirtwaister dresses are a good style for apples 👍

I agree with this. I am a non-busty apple.

@StickthatupyourdojoI love a shirred dress too, I do just find the shirring could be slightly longer on lots of them though, they never seem to reach my waist. I’ll take a look at the Next one you’ve mentioned
