Face cream recommendations for sensitive skin

Hi all,

I suffer from sensitive skin and I am looking for a good everyday face cream that will make my face moisturised and glowing. I have tried a few creams in the past, but none have worked particulary well for me.

I have tried Cereve and Cetaphil moisturisers, but both made my skin feel dry rather than hydrated. I have also tried Kiehl's Ultra Face Cream, but it caused me to break out.

I don't mind spending more on a cream if genuinely works and is worth the money.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Do you use any other products? It might be your skins needs extra hydration. I use cosrx snail mucin products then use cerave and it deals well with dryness even from using tret.

La Roche Posay is excellent and my moisturiser of choice. I have extremely sensitive skin and have never reacted.

Tortephant · 20/05/2026 08:25

OP, I’d look at ingredients. Avoid anything with limonene, hector cinnamyl, linalool.

for now also cut any with fragrance/perfume and essential oils. I think this will help.

low price: Byoma could work for you. Use the hydrating toner too.
expensive:, dock cream from Heaven skincare (Deborah Mitchell)

the expensive one has been transformational for me.

I’m trying to understand this better. I’m also on the hunt for a moisturizer for sensitive skin. I’ve tried many—some irritate my skin, some don’t—but they all just sit on the surface and never absorb. Is my skin too dehydrated for the moisturizer to work? Or could it be a buildup of dead skin (I wash with a gentle foaming cleanser)? What could help? 🙏

I know it's designed for my men but I love my husbands Bulldog face scrub and moisturiser.

CuriousKangaroo · 20/05/2026 14:45

I have sensitive, spot prone, dehydrated skin. It is super expensive but I have found that the Estée Lauder night repair serum, used under moisturiser, is a game changer. (And you can use it during the day, obviously.)

Dliplop · 20/05/2026 14:47

Skinfix! Avene products are also really nice but the ones I tried are more of a barrier cream.

ilovemynails · 20/05/2026 14:58

I find using cetaphil without the sunscreen added. Prefer it as a separate cream.

No I don't use any other products

Can you post a link to the creams so I can do my research please!

This is my absolute holy grail for my dry/sensitive skin. I don’t get on with CeraVe or LRP at all.

Never heard of Beauty Pie. Do they sell it in Boots? What makes this cream so good?

I don't like Cetaphil, I just can't get along with it.

Clinique moisture surge is the best face cream I’ve used by far. Elemis was also quite hydrating but Clinique is particularly good for sensitive skin. Try a sample of it and see.

I find that using the serum makes what moisturiser I use less important so I can now use most types for dry skin. At the moment I am using the Inky List bio-active ceramide repairing and plumping moisturiser. It’s working well.

Beauty Pie is members club so you have to pay a monthly fee.
I buy a lot from there so it’s worth the fee.
The Japanfusion line they do has been brilliant for me.
Outside of that, La Roche Posay is great.
If you aren’t cleansing your skin properly and just put cream on it’s not going to be that effective.
Budget aside, I like the Elemis pro collagen day and night creams as well.

Simple moisturisers are all good - often on offer in Boots/Superdrug.

Aveeno oat gel moisturiser is my go to, so soothing

Seconded. The whole range is fantastic.

Can confirm with the previous poster re the La Roche moisturiser. I too have very sensitive skin and it’s great. I also buy quite a few things from beauty pie and rate it.

BridgetJonesV2 · 21/05/2026 10:20

I've got very sensitive skin and find I get on with the Liz Earle superskin cleanser and moisturiser very well. In fact I've not reacted to any of her products.

drspouse · 21/05/2026 15:38

I have also got on well with the LRP Toleraine cream.
I loved the A. Florence Rich cream but the company went out of business. I bought some off eBay but it was in an old style pot and one of the pots had curdled.
Oddly I don't like Simple because of its smell (I know, it's supposed to be unscented)
I also like an Embryolisse Lait Creme Sensitive but it's really hard to find in the UK.
I originally wanted the A.Florence because it came in a glass jar rather than an un-recyclable plastic tube. I also tried Face Theory unscented which is again in a glass jar and I was OK with that.
Anything "natural" or with "essential oils" just turns into a very expensive hand cream after it gives me a rash round my eyes.
I suspect however that I really need something stronger - only the A.Florence really cuts it in terms of not leaving my skin feeling dry. I tried The Ordinary face oils but again I was allergic. Apparently I have eczema around my eyes and, bizarrely, in my ears.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know! Late 50s is not kind to skin.
