If LRP is / was the only sunscreen SPF30 and over that does not sting your face, have you found a cheaper alternative that also does not sting?

I have tried different brands from high street over the years but always end up going back to LRP, despite the price. Even on offer, it’s expensive. But everything else stings, some I have returned to the shop, some gave to DD, and generally accepted that it’s cheaper to stop experimenting and stick with what works.

Now I have list my job (and Work board leaving me rather deflated about my prospects), I cannot afford it. If there is no alternative, I will stick to SPF15 Nivea Sensitive that works, but for summer could really do with a higher factor. Thank you.

I use Ultrasun 50 (30 also available). It's more expensive but you only apply once a day so actually works out cheaper.
It's often on offer on Amazon or QVC.
Best I've tried for sensitive skin.

Cerave doesn’t sting my eyes

NotOneMoreLunge · 19/05/2026 21:08

@PersephoneParlormaid I love all of cerave products, so had great hopes for their day cream, but it also stings…

Altruist? The products are fragrance free and I've had no stinging or reactions.

SoapCollector · 19/05/2026 21:54

Just thought of another good one since you mentioned Nivea. Nivea sensitive face spf50, fragrance free and no eye irritation.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 19/05/2026 21:55

L’Oréal Revitalift do a 50 spf ripoff similar style to LRP and it’s been great so far.
i cant wear anything else as i get spots.

Nihongo · 19/05/2026 22:01

You could try the Ambre Solaire spf 50 dupe? It’s cheaper and Boots usually do 3 for 2 or special offers.

I used to use LRP anthelios religiously but switched a while ago.

Both brands are owned by the L’oreal parent company so I imagine the ingredients are pretty similar - although ambre solaire is a slightly thicker consistency.

LRP is the only cream that doesn’t irritate my sons face, I’ve tried almost all of the suggestions listed here!

I was coming on to recommend this too.
its called Anti-UV fluid. Non-greasy, rubs in very easily and 50+.

you can get it on offer for about £10 although I got it for £7 from Amazon in one of the big sales. If I see it again that cheaply I’ll buy 3!

gerbo · 19/05/2026 22:06

Ultrasun. Scent free and no sting.

INeedNewShoes · 19/05/2026 22:11

Ultrasun face spf30. I've got very sensitive skin and my face is completely fine with this

Smallorveryfaraway · 20/05/2026 14:08

I use the beauty of joesen one recommended up thread or Q+A which I can get in Waitrose.

patate10 · 20/05/2026 14:24

I have issues with lots of sunscreens - I found LRP so thin it was hard to apply and I kept getting it on clothes/floors.

The Beauty Pie SPF 25 one works for me at a price point I can live with. The spf 50 one categorically doesnt though!

NotOneMoreLunge · 20/05/2026 20:06

Ooohhh, thank you so much, I will try a few of these from Boots.

Beauty of Joseon is my new go to after developing a sensitivity to lrp.

It differs from lrp as it's more moisturising so I skip moisturiser (but not milky toner).
There's an ever so slight white cast on first application but it disappears.

@Smallorveryfaraway q+a is my favourite budget brand at the minute but I haven't tried their sunscreen. What's it like?

Smallorveryfaraway · 20/05/2026 21:54

@Griselinia I love it, more like a serum texture, sinks in really quickly, no itchy eyes or skin reaction. I've tried the blue tube and the yellow tube and liked them both. Also easy to pop in my bag or pocket for reapplication when out and about as the tubes are a nice size and shape.

SOS spf 50 is lovely and not at all
stingy

equuscaballus · 20/05/2026 22:16

I’ve ditched LRP. For bondi sands face factor 50. I still prefer the LRP but bondi is less than half the price!

MyAgileUser · 21/05/2026 09:32

I loathe to recommend a MLM but… tropic.

Pretty much any and all sunscreen make me want to scratch my eyes out, I cannot tolerate day cream with added sunscreen AT ALL. A friend dropped a sample of the tropic sun day off and, honestly it’s amazing and I’m on my fourth tube. The tinted one is not great though. I’m sure there will be an ambassador 🙄 near you as they are everywhere. Worth asking for a sample.

I have this too but find it greasy/shiny on my skin. Fine if you’re happy to appear like you’re wearing sunscreen but not if you want it to be invisible.

Thank you sounds good :)

I can't get on with Ultrasun and have found a shed load of other ones too. Now I use this on my face. Expensive but lasts ages.
