Time for another thread. Spring and Summer releases are trickling out to tempt us AND the advent calendar waitlists are appearing...hope you are all feeling suitably Christmassy. 😂

Thanks everyone who continues to contribute to the chatter and welcome to any newbies who want to join in.

@JoRaRaRa I know, I thought that as I was typing it 🙈
What it tells me is that I need to be more considered with my BAC purchases this year

I have so many setting sprays to work my way through. I’m currently using the CT one, which is nice enough but I can’t feel any real difference other than when I first apply my make up. That said, I feel this way about setting sprays in general, but I still use them

I've never seen the ;points of them - maybe if I was going clubbing in a sweaty club but I'm about 30 years too late for that!

Fillybuster · 17/05/2026 23:06

I really appreciate the staying power I get from a decent setting spray on their own days when i leave for the office at 7am, and head straight to the gym after work. The Nyx workout proof spray is pretty close to bulletproof!
edited to add: nothing is going to survive a really sweaty cardio session, mind, but it does mean I arrive looking fairly decent and leave looking semi human if it’s just weightlifting. I also still go out clubbing on a fairly regular basis, and, again, a good setting spray makes a big difference!

Thelifeofawife · 17/05/2026 23:26

@Fillybuster I’ll give that one a try and see if I can be converted.
I have recently bought the Morphe setting spray but have only used it at weekend when I’ve not put make up on until later in the day so it’s hard to judge that one.

JoRaRaRa · 18/05/2026 07:50

If I don't use primer or setting spray, my make up just doesn't last. Is anyone buying the CB edits today? Does anyone have a code?

I haven't found any working codes. I'm still undecided if I want it. I think it's quite a good edit.

Yeah, I quite like both of them and have quite a bit of credit burning a hole in my pocke but I'll wait until a code works 🙂

Fillybuster · 18/05/2026 08:21

I clicked the JL rewards voucher for the CT cream, popped it in my basket and then waited a few days to put together a genuine order. So it’s now gone out of stock, and, annoyingly, the offer has also disappeared from my rewards. So I can’t get it even if it comes back into stock. Gah!

I use both primer and setting spray. I do think using them is better than not, but I wouldn’t say my make up lasts all day. Do you have any recommendations?

Oh that is so annoying! It’s the sort of thing that happens to me.
Hopefully the next reward that comes will be even better 🤞

I'm trying out the JL sample Chanel foundation this morning. I chose the Les Beiges Glow foundation. It looked stunning on first application but an hour in it's pilling like crazy. I think it may not like the CT spf 50 primer that's underneath it or possibly the MBM skin enhancer I used on top. I'll have to try another day without either of those.

I'm not a makeup pro, but I always make sure that the primer and foundation are the same base, so either water or silicon. I never mix. I stamp my foundation on my face with a brush, I don't push it around. I then use a damp beauty blender, I brush off the excess foundation onto the top of the blender then lightly tap in the foundation. I then spray my face lightly with setting spray, only 3 or 4 sprays in an x, take a fluffy brush and lightly put setting powder on and press into my face (not the nose, just forehead and cheeks). I then take a powder puff put a tiny bit of setting powder on, which I warm on the back of my hand, I then use that on my nose and around my mouth. I use Mac, Charlotte Tilbury, huda and Tarte setting sprays. I've just bought the new Dior setting spray, I'm hoping it's good 🤞🏻

This is what I've ordered from Harvey Nichols, I hope it works ok for me! The sample they gave me seemed ok but I didn't have spf on when I tried it so I'll have to see how it does with that. I'm also hoping the shade is ok, the sample was too dark so I've ordered a shade lighter and hoping for the best.

I should have tested in person but I wasn't expecting to be able to get to the shops. As it turns out I have an unexpected child free morning today and I am currently sitting in Costa waiting for the shops to open 😆

How do you know whether your products are silicon or water based? I've seen this advice before but I don't feel it's obvious in the description of most products?

It sounds like the Chanel Les beiges collection doesn't really like being mixed with any other brand 🤔

No, I agree, it's not obvious at all, I have to use Google / chatgpt to find out 🤣

RockaLock · 18/05/2026 10:47

I think if any of the ingredient names in a product end in “cone” then it’s silicon based - but of course you need to be able to see the ingredients list to check.

Just a heads up as I wasnt aware but one of the cult edits has 2 shade choices.

I didn’t take much notice of the previous chat around home IPL, I am about to start looking into it.
any suggestions on devices to look into and recommendations? Will mainly be for legs and underarms

RockaLock · 18/05/2026 12:58

I use the Phillips IPL - I bought the cheapest model, because I wasn’t convinced it would work.

It has worked! It takes a while at first to get to the stage where you have no hair regrowth, but now I’m at the stage where I have a couple of very small
slightly stubborn patches (on my knees - think they are too knobbly to get good contact!) that I do every month or so, and which takes about 5 mins, but apart from that my legs and underarms are hair free!

I go over my whole legs and underarms maybe once every 6 months max, just in case.

I love it mainly because now when we get a short burst of good sunny weather, I can wear skirts/dresses etc without tights, without thinking “oh bother, I’ll have to shave my legs first”. It means I wear much more of my summer wardrobe!

if I ever had to rebuy, now I know it works on me, I would 100% buy a slightly more expensive model, just because mine is quite small and so it takes longer when doing a large area.

Arrearing50 · 18/05/2026 14:30

ooh there you all are - looking forward to some good Summer kits/edits...Harvey Nichols GWP quite nice but didn't go for it.

Somewhere on a previous thread I wrote a lengthy post in praise of the Braun epilator. I stand by it! My first one (model 5 I think) lasted for years, my current one (model 9, maybe) is still new in my head but I think has been in regular use for 3 years already. I recommend choosing one which can be used without being plugged in (not true of all brands or all models): mine is theoretically waterproof but I’ve never tried that out. I mostly use it for underarms and legs, but it’s also brilliant for tidying up bikini line when on holiday etc.

Like Roka, I would recomend Philips. They have various ones at different price points, the differences between the cheapest and most expensive are largely down to the number of flashes they will give in a lifetime, aperture size and time between flashes. Realistically they will all do the job long before they die so I wouldn’t get too bogged down in that. The more expensive ones will also have more heads for different parts of the body which can be helpful but again not worth paying a much higher price. The one thing I would avoid is a cordless one - having to recharge half way through your second leg is a pain and they seem to have a higher attrition rate than corded as well.

I spotted some offers on IPL's at Costco today.

They have a Braun Smart IPL one for £299.99 and 2 Philips ones at £299.98 (Lumea prestige) and £289.98 (Lumea advanced)

https://www.costco.co.uk/search?searchOption=uk-search-all&text=ipl

I'm not sure if the link will work - if not search for IPL on Costco website as the Braun one didn't show up when I searched their list of hair removal devices in the beauty section.
