Low-key wedding dress ideas/Roland Mouret sizing

Levithecat · 10/05/2026 10:02

I’ve started looking for a wedding dress - not booked yet but very, very low key next year - 2nd marriage for us both and likely a family meal and night in a hotel for us.

I’m 45, 5ft6, hourglass size 14, grey hair and olive skin/brown eyes. Suit bodycon (appreciate not in fashion rn!), midi or maxi length and like structured, modern looks. Ideally sleeves or shoulders covered, though could add a caplet or similar if sleeveless.

I found this Roland Mouret which is a bargain, and assume I would need to size up to a 16?

Or if anyone has other dresses/designers to suggest -
My budget is around 1k (my dream would be this 5k Vivienne Westwood or this). The only other I have liked online is this (bit ott)

We need to see the result!

Was it just me that liked the pink shoes?

luckymumandnowluckygranny · 12/05/2026 21:58

All beautiful. You could always get the `RM one tailored to make it perfect. I also like bodycon and did not know it was out of fashion! Which I suppose just proves that I am not fashionable.... You will look amazing, good luck with all the arrangements

Did the dress arrive, what’s it like/the fit? It’s absolutely perfect 💗 love the idea of a little touch of blue on the shoe

I wish - still ‘in process’ so no tracking yet…

Hi, OP - firstly congratulations, and I'm so pleased you ordered the RM, it is a real stunner!

Secondly, given it's well inside your max budget, and the fit isn't quite right, don't just send it back - absolutely consider getting it altered.

A friend wore these recently to her (second) wedding and they looked stunning!

They are stunning. I am very bad in mules unfortunately (dyspraxic and generally clumsy)

Have you looked at the rest of that brand of shoes?
I couldn’t resist a look at the others after the pp linked them never be able to afford them but no harm in looking.
there’s some stunners which might suit you

I love all of the dresses but the only issues I can see is that none of them are particularly forgiving in the "apron" area. Speaking only for myself, I am slim but have a bad over hang from pregnancy, so I dont have a "slim dress" silhoutte!

Skims are a game changer for that area I’ve found for very fitted dresses - they don’t roll down and stay put. And a consistent exercise plan which contains weight bearing for the full body (no exercise plan can ‘target’ a specific area, the body loses where it wants to lose) to strengthen the core and posture. I’ve still got a smallish overhang but it is way better than it used to be. I am large of nork so like the op I prefer a fitted silhouette because otherwise a loose dress makes me look huge all over.

Hope the postman arrives before the weekend @Levithecat!

Oh no! I'd try the 14.

Ophir · 14/05/2026 12:09

Oh nooo!

Perfidia · 14/05/2026 13:24

How incredibly annoying!

I’ve heard of this happening with The Outnet, but have never experienced it myself.

FFS. You poor thing. Netaporter is not what it once was - no next day or even same day delivery. Sadly I have no influence despite my username 😂

Same day in London is still mostly pretty good, although they do seem to hold more stock in Italy these days. Presumably a Brexit benefit 😅. The Outnet has always been a bit up and down, I've found.

Roland Mouret sizing is definitely on the small size - Rebecca Vallance also has some great choices - I wore one of hers for my second wedding and I loved it

ClothesMoth · 15/05/2026 12:24

Nooooo, you have to have the dress. It’s so beautiful. Have you managed to find it elsewhere? I’m going to hunt for you.

You linked to air and grace shoes earlier, they’re very pretty and I have two pairs of their boots, from their first collection, so comfortable.

May I also suggest you look at Chie Mihara shoes for comfortable yet incredible heels.
