Something cheapiish, strong smelling and lovely! I love either a very strong deep smelling scent or a not too sweet scent please can you advise? Thank!

The best advice you were given was to not use powerful fragrance in an office setting. I wear a lot of perfume but I am careful around my mother and my friend who both cannot tolerate strong perfume.

I don't understand why you think your choice to wear strong cheap perfume in an office is paramount.

I can have anaphylactic reactions to airborne exposure of some perfumes. I rarely go to the office because it is so dangerous. If I do go, people can’t wear perfume or anything else scented. My condition counts as a disability.

Laughing about this is offensive. Do you laugh at people who need wheelchairs?

Okay, I completely understand this. I do apologise if I have offended you. This is a legitimate reason to absolutely not spray near you and if I knew this about someone in my office I’d not spray out of caution and respect.
it’s the people who found it “selfish and offensive” that need to get a grip.
this is different and I totally get this.
maybe I will check to see if my coworkers mind or not moving forward!

Why does it take the most extreme example (person with anaphylaxis) for you to listen to the many people explaining they experience artificial scents negatively? Loads of people get headaches and mild allergic reactions. No one is going to say this to your face, out of politeness. Judging from your reactions here even the less polite would be afraid to tell you.

Somethingtosayagain · 07/05/2026 06:23

Imagine you've just walked into a tiny room where a teenage boy has sprayed Lynx deodorant. That's how lots of people are experiencing your perfume.

This is like my office, apart from the teenage boy is a 37 year old sales man who goes out for his 12 daily cigarette and then gets back to his desk and covers himself with lynx and other various cheap knock offs and the smell of the aftershave/spray over the top of the stale fat smell is vomiting inducing, give me straight perfume or aftershave any day! 😀

I'd love to know what the one is that my colleague wears that = instant headache/nausea for me, I think it must be a well known one because I do encounter others wearing it from time to time, but it's tricky to ask without it sounding as though you actually like it and I certainly don't want to encourage it.

Overtheatlantic · 07/05/2026 12:52

I don’t need to get a grip. I’m neither rude nor ignorant. I suggest the OP gets a grip.

Don’t you think people’s fag smells make me feel physically sick? But that’s a long going thing. If I choose to spray perfume, I will. I am actually a very polite and welcoming person I just do not tolerate people’s silliness(headaches and genuine issues not included) the people who “don’t like” things. Wow this world has gone crazy. You can’t ask what perfume to wear without being told you’re offensive these days? Woah😂😂😂

OP ignore the whingers. Zara Fasionably London is made by Jo Malone and is absolutely gorgeous and smells much more expensive than it is. I wear it even to the office and nobody has passed out and neither have o been disciplined for it. In fact lots of people have commented positively on it

All of the Tom Ford dupes from Eden Perfumes are very strong-smelling and lovely, as well as cheap. The Tobacco Vanille and Lost Cherry dupes are particularly nice.

It's whinging to ask that people don't do something that makes you ill?

I swear to god this world is fucking miserable.

It sure is when you have a migraine

I wear CKOne for everyday, and I really want to try the new Nivea perfume, apparently it smells like sun lotion.. I love the smell of sun lotion.

MammaTo · 07/05/2026 14:59

M&S or Zara have got lovely perfumes at the minute, really reasonably priced.

It’s a bit of an odd ask - what do you recommend to make me smell brash and cheap at work!

If the question was what smells subtle and expensive, it would be a bit more understandable…

Just because someone prefers stronger scents doesn’t mean they’re brash or cheap, calm down.

Are you one of those old ladies like my exMIL that thinks Opium is a “prostitute scent”?

SwatTheTwit · 08/05/2026 07:01

@sodoffbeforemycupofcoff i used to wear ylang ylang espresso at work and always got loads of compliments, a couple of my coworkers went on to buy it for themselves.

Now I wear a Bianco Latte dupe + Lush sticky dates and again, loads of compliments.

Whatever perfume you choose I’d say the trick is probably to not go overboard with it, really.

LivingTheDreamish · 08/05/2026 07:16

The issue with perfume at work is that the people who sit near you have to smell it ALL DAY if you wear too much or reapply all day and it’s just not on really. Yes it’s probably in third place behind BO and smoke but why would you do that?

Yes, when I wear fragrance to work it's just a single squirt in the morning and no topping up. Some people drench themselves by comparison.

Gettingbysomehow · 08/05/2026 07:21

Vogue from Amazon. Its a dupe but smells gorgeous. Im very fussy about perfumes too. Everyone asks what Im wearing.

Quamarina · 08/05/2026 07:22

Not a favourite of mine because I like to smell like a Turkish delight but on other people I always think Sarah Jessica Parker’s Lovely smells really nice, strong but not offensively so, and it’s not sweet as other celebrity perfumes. Decent bang for your buck

I think you are the one who needs to calm down.

if you read the OP again, you will see she specifically asked for something cheap! Not a less expensive dupe for something pleasant. She also wants it strong to cover up her BO apparently…

None of that relates to her sexual habits and I didn’t say it did, but it doesn’t sound very appealing for the work place.

professionalcommentreader · 08/05/2026 07:39

If you’re using perfume to hide BO you need to change your deodorant.

I don’t think you realise what a contentious Issue strong fragrance in the workplace is.

This is why some professions don’t allow perfumes at all particularly in the healthcare industries. Many people have been taken aside by HR As people complained about strong fragrances

It’s not people just being silly, a lot of people not just a few struggle. A lot of people’s headaches and migraines can be triggered by perfume and I’m sure you know yourself, some fragrance is extremely unpleasant to your nose now imagine somebody intentionally dousing themselves and something that you find nausea inducing

The reason people have come on strongly is because of your description of wanting a strong smelling perfume and then instead of listening to people and they’re legitimate dismay, you’ve belittled Dunn and invalidated what they’re saying with defensiveness and a ‘ I didn’t give a fuck what other people think’ attitude. That’s just not appropriate In a workplace, environment. Had you come on and said I want a nice perfume thatI can wear for work, this Wouldn’t have triggered this response but your insistence on it being a strong perfume and then doubling down just comes across with someone that doesn’t understand the compromises we make full workplace harmony and comfort. It’s just an unpleasant experience for other people and when we work or live in community, we don’t reasonably choose that option

Sparkletastic · 08/05/2026 08:31

We love a nice fragrance in my office. This is one of my bargain favourites for warmer weather - incredibly green and fresh with fantastic longevity but not a bully of a scent https://www.superdrug.com/fragrance/perfume-for-women/womens-perfume/gres-cabotine-eau-de-parfum-spray-100ml-gres/p/mp-00002111
