To fake tan or not before sun holiday?

Doximama2 · Yesterday 07:30

Booked a last minute sun holiday for Saturday and am white as a ghost post winter. Wondered if anyone fake tans before holiday and if so does it become streaky and messy from swimming and sun tan cream? I only use the garnier gradual tan lotion not a full on fake tan. Interested what people do, any advise welcome !!! 🙏

Also wondering this. I go away in June and, unless we get some decent sun, I’m likely to be pretty pale! Was debating hitting the sunbeds, but I’m tempted to get on the gradual tan. First world problems eh!

Twat.

Hi OP, I do fake tan the day before I go on holiday. I find it gives me colour for the first few days before I get some sun and build up my natural colour.
Plus, I find having a bit of a tan always makes me feel more confident.

I always fake tan before, and during a holiday as I never sunbathe. I do a thorough exfoliation first then use St Tropez. I take it away with me a reapply after a week. It doesn’t go streaky or patchy on me.

I am pasty and do not tan (naturally or fake!) but have started on the garnier in advance of a holiday in a few weeks as I suspect the sun reflecting off my skin would blind the other hotel guests.

I am well aware how to spell was just autocorrect and I didn’t notice but thank you so much for correcting me on my appalling grammar 🤣🙈

Absolutely first world problems I know, we’re lucky enough to go away and would usually have built up some colour but I too will blind people with my pale skin!! 🤣

Same! Or when I’m planning on wearing certain outfits as well.

I never sunbathe and always apply spf 50. I generally don’t mind being pale, tbh…

But a little tanning cream on my legs really does make a difference!

WhereDoIBeginTo · Yesterday 13:29

Yes definitely. I find it helps me just feel a bit more confident when I'm in my swimsuit/shorts or strappy tops.

Hope you have a lovely time.

Oleoreoleo · Yesterday 14:36

I don’t because it scrubs off in sand and sea water and I end up looking like I’m wearing white socks.

If I was on holiday without dc, and mainly on sunbeds and in the pool, it would probably be fine.

Surely if you're going somewhere hot then you don't even need to sunbathe to get a tan. Seems ridiculous to me to fake tan before going somewhere you can get a proper one🫤

Not everyone tans. I always use the gradual stuff on my legs. I don't sunbathe but I don't mind wearing short dresses etc so need to reduce the glare.

I don't tan at all. I could sit out all day in direct sun and still wouldn't.

I have used gradual tans in the last but I do find it streaks/fades so needs top ups. Tempted to consider a spray tan next time! Saw Sali Hughes talking about them last summer.

I have had spray tans and they are good but not sure how they would last with swimming but great for an occasion!

I only plan to put a bit of garnier gradual tan to just look and feel a bit more human, I tan but not very well so think this is what I will do thank you!

I never use anything, and am pale skinned. I rationalise it by saying being pale and interesting is the new fashion now. Everyone else is getting like Trump in the orange tan stakes, so nope

And melanoma if you sunbathe....... can happen even with high factor stuff. So no again.

That's why I rarely go on beach holidays. Can't stand the things.

Aprilcherry04 · Yesterday 16:38

I normally get a spray tan before I go and top up with a gradual tan after a few days. I like to sunbathe but having fake tan makes me more sensible with sun exposure.
