I want to buy myself a ring

I can't afford it right now, but at some point over the next couple of years I want to buy myself a ring.

My marriage ended after 20 years. He never bought me a ring. That's okay, I don't want his poxy ring anyway. But I want to buy a ring from myself to myself, to wear every day.

Budget about £500? But if I find the perfect thing much cheaper that's fine. It's not about how much I spend.

I don't know what I want, but I'll know when I see it. I like stones. I don't like diamonds. I like flat and modern. Maybe a band with stones set in it? But not a rainbow of stones.

I think gold, not silver.

Maybe something with 4 stones, to represent me and my children?

Maybe it should just be about me?

I think I'm looking for something a bit cheesy tbh, to represent that I can do this by myself and I can rely on myself.

What would you buy yourself?

Check the scale of stone hardiness that jewellers' use.

My go to to jewellery including rings is Carrie Elizabeth, really good prices for the quality. Most of my jewellery is from there and I wear it every day and still good as new!

Take a look at Kuololit (either at Kuololit.net or on AliExpress). I bought myself a new engagement ring and wedding band in solid gold, as well as lots of silver rings, mostly moissanite but also some lab diamonds and sapphires. Their quality is so good for the price. There's a very active Reddit if you want to see pieces in real life (I'd recommend as his photos on the website aren't the best).

I love this idea!

Have you thought about vintage? So much more for your money and something more interesting x

Oooh I did this! I’ve never been married and wanted something to pass along to my daughter in lieu of an engagement ring. I set my budget and then looked at local auctions. I followed a few until I saw a ring I wanted, bid on it and bought it! Love it because of what it means!

I have a polki diamond ring. It’s a natural diamond, uncut and unpolished. I love the fact it’s raw

My dh just bought me this. You can choose a different colour stone, but I really liked the silver and gold combination. It's from Jeremy Heber and it cost £450

Pick a stone you really like: emerald or ruby or opal or whatever, then start looking based on metal you like : white gold or gold or silver or titanium. You will find so many beautiful things to choose from.
My wedding ring was an Etsy purchase. An art Nouveau band with tiny diamond chips. My engagement ring was eBay emerald and opal. They're just so unique.

Why not choose a stone meaningful to your independence and strength? Lots if you google, but could also have something made?

  • Lepidolite: Often used to cut ties with unhealthy influences and promote independence by helping you break free from others' expectations.
  • Citrine: Known for building self-esteem, enhancing motivation, and fostering a strong sense of self.
  • Chrysoprase: Specifically symbolizes independence, energy, and joy.
  • Jade: Promotes independence, self-realization, and wisdom.
  • Brown Diamond: Often seen as a symbol of personal freedom and unique individuality.
  • Sapphire: Associated with mental clarity and the intellectual independence to make one's own decisions.
