Edward looks like he has accidentally put on his older brother's jacket. And Sophie isn't as swish as the other ladies but shes fine.
The Duchess of Gloucester has been a star the past few years. The Duke seems quiet. And lovely to see the Kents. I wonder will the younger Gloucesters and Kents help out. Or just fade away like the Snowdens.

ThisJoyousMaker · 22/04/2026 10:58

Does anyone else agree that Prince Edward (Dof E), looks more and more like his grandfather the late King George VI?

The younger Gloucesters and Kents won't have a public role. They'll be like the Snowdons.

I've just had another look at Spohie's dress snd in second glance the fabric does look expensive. I admit the style is a bit on the more casual side. I just think Edward lost so much weight after his parents died and is reluctant to buy new clothes as he might put the weight back in again. Although I don't think Edward has ever been overweight, but around 2019 he did look much fuller in the face.

Yes, I can definitely see that.

Camilla’s navy is really lovely.
I’m not keen on Sophie’s outfit.
For goodness sake Edward either buy a new jacket or get your tailor to take it in.
My DH was seriously ill (thankfully recovered) and lost a ton of weight. His suits / jackets were either sent to the charity shop or taken in.
It is said Kate is a “Summer” and lilac is a “Summer” colour yet people are saying it washes her out.
I think she is more “Autumn”, certainly with the lighter hair colour.
I like the lilac on her though.

I agree although I have been pleasantly surprised at how Lady Sarah Chatto has been kept in the family event fold by King Charles. She is so stylish. I love to see whatvshevwill be wearing. I always got the impression that the late Queen realised that her sister didn't give her daughter as much attention as she deserved, and following Princess Margaret's death, Sarah and her husband were always invited to Windsor and Balmoral for holidays. I'm not saying the late Queen saw Sarah as a second daughter, but she did care for her niece.

Maireas · 22/04/2026 11:15

I think Sarah Chatto has always got on well with everyone, particularly Charles. I don't know the ins and outs, but she's a very private person, so for her it's just the family links, so it's nice to see her at events like this.

I've just seen elsewhere that the stripes on Sophie's dress are made up of riding boots. I can see where she was going now !

smilesy · 22/04/2026 11:21

Love the colour of Anne’s dress. I’m getting cheongsam vibes. I also suspect that Catherine’s dress is a tribute to the late Queen, but I think a slightly darker shade might have suited her better. Not sure about the motif on Camilla’s dress. It looks a bit Christmassy for my taste

ExquisitelyDressed · 22/04/2026 11:22

I imagine it was pretty hard growing up as Princess Margaret's daughter, in the glare of publicity plus a turbulent lifestyle, I'm glad she has remained close to the late Queen's family.

This is a nice photo of the Danish siblings together. I do love Josephine’s dress and I’m sure there is a funny Bugsy Malone caption if only I could think of one!

That’s a lovely photo.

I loved the video clip of Vincent checking with Christian the correct way to greet Felipe and then doing it exactly as his older brother had shown him.

eggandonion · 22/04/2026 11:27

My kids always love to see their cousins. Im sure the Pre Christmas lunch and Ascot will be meeting places. Plus weddings!
They all have professions now to keep them busy don't they.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 22/04/2026 11:55

I understand why Kate wore the pearls but a string of pearls paired with a lilac dress seems a bit elderly.

It made me laugh that interchange with the Danish boys given that their own father is a King.

It was amusing that.

One of the posts suggested it was the first time Josephine had been photographed curtsying to anyone so I wondered if maybe as young children they don’t bow/curtsey but now confirmed they do? First time nerves maybe?

I think there is a tradition that king’s names alternate between Christian and Frederick so I don’t think they had much choice.

I wonder what happens if the heir dies or abdicates? If Christian decides he doesn't want to be king, and Isabella passes too, then does Vincent have to change his name to Christian?

Well I suppose we just had a Margarethe, so maybe it's just a loose rule.

I think it is because some of the other ladies were wearing such striking colours that Sophie stood out as a bit 'underdressed'. I must admit I loved the fact that the Duke of Kent was wearing lovely purple socks. No stuffy black for him! I do think Princess Alexandra looks exceedingly frail. I remember that Edward and Sophie stood either side if her with an arm round hers so she could stand for the Coronation photo.

Wasn't purple semi mourning once upon a time

Current Frederik is actually the first since 1800ish that didn’t actually have Christian as the first of their names, but be known as Fred so he might follow a similar idea and be a Fred, albeit out of sync, as it is one of his middle names?

It's a bit like the Ptolemy dynasty - all the men were called Ptolemy, and all the women were called either Berenice, Cleopatra or Arsinoe.
