I think Catherine’s shoes go well with the outfit and are suitable for outdoors but personally think they are hideous, I wouldn’t be seen dead in them. She may well feel the same about my Birkenstock collection….

I wouldn’t be seen dead in them either, but they’re a 100x better than the sky high courts. Kate doesn’t follow fashion and dresses like someone much older, so she’s not going to set the world alight with her choice of shoe.

Yes, I’m not keen on the sky high courts apart from with very formal outfits but she does wear them well, I’d be hobbling about.

Kate dresses older than her years is a familiar refrain on these threads (I've been here since the beginning, but have name changed.) So how do fashionable 40-somethings dress in the UK? To my eye, she looks great most of the time, and she certainly passes for fashionable here in the US. I do realize that American fashionable is generally more conservative than in the UK and the rest of Europe, but what should she wear to dress younger? Or even more to the point, why should she?

I would be caught dead in those shoes (or alive actually) as I have a pair almost identical (but less expensive, I'm sure.) I'm old though, so maybe they are appropriate for me. 😀

Just thinking around my neighbours...a lot of women wear uniforms to work in retail or medical settings and a lot wear jeans or trousers to office jobs now...a few years ago they would have been more smartly dressed.
Kate has to be extra smartly dressed. It is an unusual job she does.

I liked Mathilde’s dress and loved Leti’s outfit. Marie looked great too.

I used to love a trouser suit. However being short of arse and limited mobility I now look hideous in them.

i can’t speak for the fashionistas (a different world!) but professional women in their 40s in the City of London dress a lot like Kate. Cheaper labels though - loads of Me and Em, Sezanne, Ress, and then Zara and Mango.

I don't think Kate dresses old, she has a formal role and IMO is always dressed appropriately, she shouldn't be following fashion too closely. I just don't like either block heels or contrast toe caps so while they work with her outfit I wouldn't wear them. I'm a lot older than her.

Also I have no idea what fashionable business woman wear as I commute to a casual workplace in a small town by car so never see any of them.
