I like the asymmetric hem and I also like the navy.

Princess Mabel of the Netherlands would definitely wear the coat as shown by MacQueen. I admit, I can’t think of another royal lady who would!

SqueakyDinosaur · 26/04/2026 09:37

Maxima would (and she'd probably have the pale bits in bright orange...)

Do you mean this dress @Sidebeforeself? Though it's blue rather than cream

Yes that’s the one! No wonder I couldn’t find it! I really like it

eggandonion · 26/04/2026 10:42

Most people don't have to think about the type of occasion that working royals do. Being on trend might not work. There's a thread on jorts. I don't think we would appreciate jorts at Wimbledon.
And channeling Diana must become boring...wearing a navy jumper doesn't mean Im channeling my mil.
I don't really like the white labels being repeated. Once was unusual.

She does have lovely legs.

RomainingCalm · 26/04/2026 12:37

Was it this one @KiIIingMeDeftly- it’s stunning. I agree, some of her evening gowns, particularly on foreign trips have been fabulous.

(I quite like that grey version of the Alexander McQueen coat - maybe not for the Anzac Day service but there must be an occasion where she could get away with it.)

Yes, that's it. Her tour wardrobes and Wimbledon ensembles are probably my favourites. I loved the polka dot dress and the yellow D&G she wore some years ago.

eggandonion · 26/04/2026 13:44

I love a lot of evening dresses that are proper princessy!

Maireas · 26/04/2026 15:00

@RomainingCalm that green dress 👌

The green dress is marvellous and would be great for a state banquet

Pallisers · 26/04/2026 15:06

Catherine generally really wows with evening dresses. She looks good in casual/sporty clothes too. She is pretty suitable/boring with daywear/workwear - imo. Leti and Mary of Denmark seem to do the daywear thing better but I can't put my finger on why that is. Maxima is in a league of her own.

She certainly is!

Yes, Rania too and she has to deal with a more modest dress code than the others. But her wardrobe is probably the most designer-heavy out of all the royal women!

Maireas · 26/04/2026 15:32

I think Rania, like Leti, has some good skirt/blouse combos. I think they're often a little less formal, but still stylish.

I agree, it stunning. But I’ve noticed Kate favours more of a demure covering these days.

She quite possibly has a visible scar on her upper chest from a port (to deliver her chemo drugs) and is self-conscious about it? Though they can be disguised with make up. But Kate is subject to such intense online scrutiny that she might not fancy it.

True. I didn’t think of that. My brother in law has quite a nasty scar from his port.

justasking111 · 26/04/2026 19:40

When I was young had quite a few full length evening dresses. We went to two balls a year and if going out to a special restaurant or the theatre I wore them occasionally.

I miss getting really dressed up although my face and figure wouldn't say wow.

Sadly there are no photos of us all gussied up from that era.

What was I saying about skirts and blouses? Here's Leti in pale blue Hugo Boss seperates. She looks stunning, the colour and the fit are perfect. I like her low heeled slingbacks and her earrings are gorgeous 🤩.
Chef's kiss 👌

She looks lovely. I'm envious that in warmer climates they slip into pretty summer wear while we're still shivering under umbrellas 😭

Maireas · 26/04/2026 20:26

Yes, a lot of her clothes are spring/summer. I love the colour.

I'm a skirt person myself and I'd say Mary is probably best at them - although I do not like the very high-waisted, super-maxi length ones she sometimes chooses as a formal look. She's worn some lovely casual skirts and some good navy and white skirt and blazer combos.

But as we're talking skirts… I've only just come across this lovely outfit of Sophie's. Apologies if it has already featured - it's from Feb (she was in Nepal) when I wasn't paying attention as royal fashion seemed to be all smart coats in boring colours - but the poppy print skirt is so pretty it deserves a second mention. The whole ensemble works, even the espadrilles (flat, not wedges) aren't too bad!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 26/04/2026 20:59

That is pretty but the shoes are terrible and look like clogs!
