What colour tights and shoes would work with this Toast dress?

This Toast dress has narrow mid-blue and dark blue stripes and I'm at a bit of a loss about what colour tights and shoes to wear with it please while it's still a bit chilly out. When it's warmer I'll be able to wear it with either my Birkenstock Boston clogs in tobacco brown or else maybe red mary janes but what about a shoe choice with tights please? And I think the tights should be navy but .not certain. Thank you for any advice.

@Pinkissmart Well don’t wear that dress on a cold day then! Most days are not freezing in April.

As for wearing leggings all the time - this is supposed to be about style.

I'm still wearing opaque tights - indeed navy opaque tights today with a tartan Cabbages and Roses dress. It's obviously not literally freezing but it's not warm enough for sheer tights or ankle socks. That dress is useful as it's an almost all seasons dress depending on what you wear with it.

I think navy tights are a much better suggestion than knee boots.

Lots of great ideas but I've decided on navy tights with brown boots and brown socks showing (would never have thought of the socks myself). I'm sure I'll have a chance to try some of the other combinations also. Apologies for the dirty mirror!

Not an abomination just very old fashioned, dare I say it a bit dowdy. Certainly not chic but then that’s not a priority for everyone.

I don't get why anyone would think navy tights are old fashioned or even an 'abomination" by the way... Harper's Bazaar certainly doesn't think so for one (the article also references the Jil Sander Spring 2026 collection)

That Jill Sander image looks pretty dowdy tbh. And that’s on a model. It’s not personal though I just don’t think navy tights are generally very fashionable, despite that one article’s best efforts

Black tights and black loafers, which is what I wear with most of my skirts and dresses except the really obviously summer ones.

I’d wear it with my flat lace up brown ankle boots, little house on the prairie vibes as others have said. The tights colour would be a conundrum though.

There are other articles - coloured tights including navy are having a bit of a moment. What you're saying indicates a lack of understanding about how fashion "works" - it's based on runway shows and designer collections which are then described in magazine articles and filters down into the high street rather than just one person's opinion (unless you happen to be Anna Wintour posting anonymously)? Of course we're all entitled to like what we like but to declare something unfashionable just because you don't like it is objectively incorrect. That's not personal either by the way.

Miranda Priestly, is that you? I know how fashion works. We are heading into summer - I’ll be very surprised if I see coloured tights anywhere off the runway until October at the earliest. And coloured tights aren’t navy tights. If the fashion world are all swanning around in navy tights next season, and somehow styling them in ways that are chic and directional, I will happily eat my hat.

Only colour tights that I’m not sure about is green. They have a look of being a tree in a school play.

How you’ve styled it looks good and is great for the Uk weather at the moment. Early summer it would look good with your clogs or Birkenstocks.

It’s a poplin cotton. Good for Uk at any time of year.
