Where to start with surgical options for a weak chin and jawline

junesheep · 10/04/2026 14:17

I have always had a weak chin and jawline. At the age of 39 I’ve decided it’s either time to get over it and accept it (sadly have tried this many times and it’s just not happening) or do something about it (the only way I think I can move on with my life).

My question is where do I even begin? I’ve read a lot online about neck lifts / liposuction / chin implants and genioplasty but I haven’t got a clue which one I need and I don’t know how I find a surgeon I can trust? I’ve looked at a few locally and they tend to specialise in one or the other, how do I find someone who can just give me good general advice?

Anyone been in my position and can help?

Just to add I’m BMI 21.5 so weight loss is unlikely to help much. I also prefer the idea of a local anaesthetic option…

I had neck lipo and have never looked back! I've always been slim but chemotherapy wrecked my jaw and neckline.

ill pop back with some photos in a second. I had it done at 27 and I'm now 31 and it's been great

Thank you! How did you work out where to go? I’m just outside the M25 and happy to take recommendations…

Also, am I right in thinking that neck lipo can be done under local anaesthetic? How long did the recovery take and when did you look “normal” again afterwards?

Filler

Filler

I have done this a couple of times (only 1ml at a time) and it made a difference but I feel like I need more than this.

Have you ever tried therapy to help you reframe this? Just cos not feeling concerned is obviously cheaper and less hassle than having surgery!

Would you mind posting a photo of the area to better understand what you mean (how bad it actually is)? I’m having similar problems, just wondering how it compares.

If you want to post a photo of yours I’m happy to let you know if it’s the same issue?

I have considered it but I don’t think it would work, sadly. Over the years I’ve been quite good at compartmentalising it by not allowing myself to look at photos from certain angles etc but it’s quite a sad way to live (for example I’ve never watched my wedding video as I knew I’d just focus on this and it would ruin my memories of the day).

1 ml if filler in jaw chin is nowhere near enough to make any proper difference. Find a really good practitioner and discuss it, you’ll probably need a lot more than that for best results

Why wouldn't you try it - what have you got to lose? Why do you assume it wouldn't work? Perhaps research a good therapist.

There are many, many people completely happy with all sorts of different physical appearances.

Not looking at videos etc. will have made the situation worse, as you're reinforcing and increasing the negative feelings.

Good luck with whatever you decide Flowers

I just genuinely believe I’d feel better if I fixed the aesthetic issue and would rather put the money towards that.

If it’s toning/lifting and tightening then (if you want to) you could try RF micro needling and/or HIFU facials. Both are very good for firming up areas that feel a bit weak or soft.

Try Jessica May Aesthetics, she has clinics all over the world and is top of her game. Loads of examples of her work online. JMA aesthetics.

LittlestBoho · 10/04/2026 20:55

What exactly are you self conscious about? Is your chin small, recessed, do you have an overbite, jowls? If you post a picture of someone with the same issue as you we might be able to suggest more things.

If fillers in your chin are not effective, I know a lot of celebrities have had chin implants (Ivanka Trump and Jenna Jameson being two - the surgery entirely changed their faces). To get a 'snatched' jaw you'd probably need a lower face-lift. If it's an overbite you may require surgery and orthodontic treatment so your bite can be fixed.

My jawline isn’t defined like others I see. It’s always been soft, not exactly jowly but I expect I’ll get there very soon. My chin is slightly recessed.

I have looked into jaw surgery and it’s drastic, wouldn’t want to go down that route for something which is cosmetic. And not sure I’d qualify anyway as it’s not causing health issues.

Hi OP. As promised here's my before and after.

no amount of therapy or counselling could make me feel as happy as I am with my face shape now. I went through Nuffield to get mine done. Still so happy about it! Recovery was a breeze too. Also ignore the silly pout. Was a couple of cocktails in😂

here's a more recent one. I'm 4 years post op and you'd never know I had it done. No scarring either!

Honestly, thirty years ago nobody ever mentioned angular jawlines as a part of beauty. I think you look great in both, with modern eyes, but your "before" picture would have been the absolute height of female loveliness in the early 19th century. Look how they painted Queen Victoria when they wanted to flatter her.

I think OP should consider how fashions change and try to be happy with the face she has, be healthy and enjoy life!

I wish my before looked like that. It was awful! Chemo really destroyed my face in my 20s

Have you had your lips filled too?
In all honesty I think your before chin looks fine.

Catkinsblossom · 10/04/2026 22:33

I'm sorry you had chemo and I can imagine wanting to move on from that xx

Thanks but I hated it. It didn't look like me at all and hated how chemo changed me.

and no, no filler in my lips.

YerAWizardHarry · 10/04/2026 23:49

Honestly I’d look like orthodontics first and foremost! Braces can massively change the shape of a face/jaw/chin
