Where to start with surgical options for a weak chin and jawline

I have always had a weak chin and jawline. At the age of 39 I’ve decided it’s either time to get over it and accept it (sadly have tried this many times and it’s just not happening) or do something about it (the only way I think I can move on with my life).

My question is where do I even begin? I’ve read a lot online about neck lifts / liposuction / chin implants and genioplasty but I haven’t got a clue which one I need and I don’t know how I find a surgeon I can trust? I’ve looked at a few locally and they tend to specialise in one or the other, how do I find someone who can just give me good general advice?

Anyone been in my position and can help?

Just to add I’m BMI 21.5 so weight loss is unlikely to help much. I also prefer the idea of a local anaesthetic option…

Honestly I’d look like orthodontics first and foremost! Braces can massively change the shape of a face/jaw/chin

They cost thousands and take years to work.

If the OPs issue is fat under her chin and neck I doubt braces would be the answer.

I know they can be the answer for some but I’m not sure this is my issue - I already have straight teeth, and my bite is ok according to my dentist. I will look into it further though.

Hi OP. As promised here's my before and after.

no amount of therapy or counselling could make me feel as happy as I am with my face shape now. I went through Nuffield to get mine done. Still so happy about it! Recovery was a breeze too. Also ignore the silly pout. Was a couple of cocktails in😂

This is amazing, you already looked great before but the after is beautiful. That must have been such a brilliant way to feel like you were taking back control after the chemo.

@ForTheNeckThread that is an absolutely amazing result! Can I ask how much it cost? I need this!

Of course! It was a few years ago now but it cost £3,500. I was under GA for it. The procedure took about half an hour. I had one tiny incision under my chin that you can't even see now. I was tender for a few days but apart from that was good to go. It's completely changed my face and made me feel so confident which is something therapy never did. A lot of people will say explore therapy or go through other avenues but I've personally experienced just how much surgery can change your life, if done right and not gone overboard.

I thought it was Nuffield but my memory was wrong. I got it done in Basingstoke at Circle Health and this was my surgeon.

I was going to suggest this. Braces changed my face shape in my 20s.

I feel you! I have a weak/recessed chin too - always hated it, was teased/bullied about it as a kid. I’m sure if I was in my 20s now I would be exploring surgery, but it wasn’t a ‘thing’ 30 years ago, even privately as far as I knew. Nose jobs, just about …
Weight is nothing to do with it for me. It’s my bones and I get it from my dad (my DCs thankfully haven’t inherited it - possibly DD to a very mild extent but only cos I’m conscious of it).
Im in my 50s and even though I hate my side profile im too old to give a shit now. If it’s really affecting your life then I’d def explore options.

You can do an awful lot with myofunctional therapy and correct tonge suction.
Look up Oscar Patel on Instagram who has an online course, it’s altered my face for the better in my late 50’s with a recessed chin.

Thank you! I’ve heard of this but never really looked into it, am going to give it a go.

Oh I feel you on being conscious about it with your children, I absolutely do not want to pass my insecurities on to them so I would never ever let on how I feel about my own appearance. But I am very aware of it with them and will be quick to take them to a private ortho if needed as I know that any treatment will be more effective when they’re young.

Have you tried that mewing that I keep seeing on youtube?

It's something to do with the tongue placement and it seems blokes are doing it to sort a weak jawline/chin.
It wouldn't cost anything either.
