Uniqlo sizing

Nix32 · 05/04/2026 10:16

I’m baffled by Uniqlo’s sizing. I’m 5 foot 4”, size 12/14 (12 top, 14 waist/stomach). Bra size 32F.

If I’m shopping in Next/H&M/M&S, I’d be buying a size medium, but Uniqlo suggests L or XL.

I don’t live near a store but don’t want to order things in 3 sizes and have to faff around with returns.

What size would you recommend please?

I would have thought medium to large but it’s very tricky with Uniqlo.

Jeans they do in waist inches which is helpful.

I’m an 8-10 and have both xs and small trousers. I used to be a size 18 and it was xl or xxl to give you an idea.

I love Uniqlo clothing, so wish there was a store close to me.

LucieChardon · 05/04/2026 10:29

Those are almost my exact measurements :) and I take an L in skirts and trousers. But tops and dresses tend to be S or M depending on the style/fit.

Hope that helps.

BeaPerry · 05/04/2026 10:32

Me too almost exactly same size as u - and love Uniqlo but struggling with same issue - I think pp is correct we need L on the bottom
M on the top !

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/04/2026 10:35

I'm a size 14/16 and I wear XL bottoms and M/L tops in Uniqlo.

GinandGingerBeer · 05/04/2026 10:39

I recently bought a few things from Uniqlo. If it helps I’m 5ft 4 and somewhere between 9st 10 and 10st 2lb (not weighed myself for ages)
I’m a M in trousers (jersey barrel legs and culottes) and they’re generous and a mixture of M/L in T-shirts.
(built in bra T-shirts and vest tops I bought M and normal T-shirts a large)

MissingTrees · 05/04/2026 10:42

I think you will be M or L.

I'm 5'3 and usually a 12, sometimes 14.

At Uniqlo I wear M for most things including trousers.

But I find the tops vary. Jackets, jumpers and coats are always M, but t-shirts always L.

Edited to add - I always read the reviews to see if people are saying the item comes up big/small.

mynameiscalypso · 05/04/2026 10:46

It depends on how you want the fit too. I’m a bit taller but a similar size and tend to size up in jumpers (L or even XL) for a more slouchy fit. For trousers, I’m generally a L.

cramptramp · 05/04/2026 11:04

I’ve just bought a L sweatshirt and a L tshirt from Uniqlo. The sweatshirt is enormous. The tshirt fits properly. I find their sizing very odd.

canyon2000 · 05/04/2026 11:05

The sizing tool on Uniqlo is rubbish! I buy XS or S and it always recommends that I need XL!

CherryMorello79 · 05/04/2026 11:45

I’m a size 10 and wear small in Uniqlo trousers (perfect fit) and a 26inch waist in their jeans.
I’m 168cm and weigh 60kg.

cheesehotcrossbuns · 05/04/2026 12:11

I’m 5’7, 10.5 stone and the size chart recommends large for me, which is why I now have an almost comically oversized long black down coat from there. It’s ridiculous, but I do like things on the roomy side so I kept it. But I can literally fit myself and my seven year old in it.

ThePoshUns · 05/04/2026 12:13

uniqlo sizing is bonkers. I’m a 12-14, they recommend I’m an XL but that is massive. I usually order a M and a L then return one or the other. They are opening a store near me soon , I can’t wait .

Figroll16 · 05/04/2026 12:17

I’m a size 12 and I take medium
in trousers there.

GreaterCassowary · 05/04/2026 12:26

Uniqlo recommended sizing is weird. According to their size chart I need a S but according to their size recommendation tool I need an XL. I haven't actually bought from them yet so I don't know which is right but given that I wear a size 8 or 10 I would think it'll be closer to S than XL.

Ooh, are you also in Leeds? If so, I wish they'd fucking get on with it. They've been dragging that out for months and every time I pass it seems they've added another 3 months to the 'opening soon' sign. Sad Angry

But to answer the OPs question, you need to try things on unfortunately.

Because as well as the vagueries of sizing, there's also the unpredictable 'oversize fit' conundrum to deal with where a top will randomly be far bigger than you expect so will need to size down if you don't want to feel like you're wearing a sack. I made a special trip to Manchester store a few weeks ago, tried loads on and came away with a few things in a mix of M to XL.

ThePoshUns · 05/04/2026 12:45

No near Bristol, opens on 16th hopefully

Nix32 · 05/04/2026 13:03

Thanks everyone. I’m very reassured that it’s not just me who finds it difficult! It’s putting me off ordering anything. Didn’t realise a Leeds store was opening up - that’ll be the closest one to us so is good to know.

I find the 'find your correct size' tool on all clothing sites, not just Uniqlo, absolutely bizarre, I am almost always recommended too big a size.

That's why I check the reviews to see what others say. I don't have a Uniqlo store anywhere near so I have to buy online. I love their clothes so I don't mind occasionally having to return something.

Redbird12 · 05/04/2026 14:32

I’m a size 16 and XL in Uniqlo trousers nearly always fits me. Tops can vary a little more, I’d say XL most common but needed an XXL in a rain jacket and occasionally can get in an L.
I’d say size 12 is about a medium and size 14 a large in Uniqlo but can vary

shardlakem · 05/04/2026 21:20

I'm v similar size to you and I'm nearly always a M in Uniqlo... although got a t shirt last month which I preferred in L so it was looser, however the M did fit fine.

OnlyFrench · 05/04/2026 22:02

The reviews are useful because people put their height and weight

DeathBanana · 05/04/2026 22:12

Their clothes lean towards unstructured so I usually weigh up how I want something to fit eg a loose jumper I go L, some slim trousers I’d go s or m, barrel legs or wider types I’d go m. or a basic t shirt prob a M.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 06/04/2026 06:21

I only shop in store at Uniqlo. And I buy sizes from S to L depending on the style and how I want it to fit. In other shops I’m anything from a 10-14 but generally if I’m buying from Next I get a 12, white stuff a 12 etc (ie the brands have consistent sizing). Uniqlo I find quite inconsistent.

Fraughtmum · 06/04/2026 06:41

I have found the tops this year very small

Opening this autumn. See you there!
