I’m interested to know what brand everyone is using for foundation. My 55 year old skin is starting to get patchy,, I’m prone to red cheeks as well but I do use a green colour corrector for that. I keep seeing adverts for Luxe foundation on Facebook and im loathe to spend any more money on another useless foundation.

OP posts:

Easy. Erborian for light coverage. Or Armani Luminous silk for more coverage.

Im also impressed with the new Laura Mercier Blur Balm.

dementedpixie · 29/03/2026 10:27

Boots number 7 in Calico

Onefortheroad25 · 29/03/2026 10:31

Someone recommend Nars Sheer Glow to me recently. I haven’t bought it yet but apparently it’s being discontinued so it was on offer in BT. I like Erborian CC too but it’s not a proper foundation if that’s what you’re after. I’m on a lifetime hunt for one that doesn’t cake or pil on me.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 29/03/2026 10:35

At 55 if you exfoliate and look after your skin well you probably don't need an actual foundation (which can be very aging). There's some amazing products these days like the Laura Mercier balm that I mentioned that give enough coverage but that doesn't mask your skin. And use concealer on the tricky bits. Foundation is for younger people (in my personal opinion only, obviously).

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 29/03/2026 10:42

Boots No 7 Hydraluminous is good and often recommended although I've gone off it recently, the Dior foundation stick gives a blurring effect which is flattering, E.l.f. Soft Glam satin foundation is pretty cheap and comfortable to wear. Their concealers are excellent too. I have broken veins on my cheeks and BB and CC products don't give enough coverage.

I use a serum day and night and moisturise well. Experiment with applying foundation with a damp sponge or beauty blender or a brush to see what works best for you.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 29/03/2026 10:43

I disagree with @Pineneedlesincarpet - it's about finding the right formulation for your skin. Lighter ones which are buildable tend to work best.

I like Lancome. I have deviated and tried others but always end up returning...

I see lots of threads asking this question (I am on most of them recommending the LOreal True Match, either the liquid foundation or its lighter - and better - Nude Serum version with the pipette dropper top).

Others that get recommended often are:

Boots No7 Hydraluminous (although not so good if you’re cool toned and pale, IMO, as all the shades lean warm)

Eborian CC cream

The lighter, more dewy formulas are often better on our older skin. Less is more.

NancyMeyers · 29/03/2026 14:25

With the Eborian CC cream, I'm looking at thd Porcelain and Clair colours. The Clair looks quite pinky and I'm more neutral undertones. Anyone able to give any guidance - I used to go for beige chiffon in clinique, or N12 in Mac if that's any help?

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 29/03/2026 14:27

Most beauty counters, including at Boots No7 will colour match you and give you a generous sample to take home and try.
I’d recommend trying out all the suggestions above and then buying the one you prefer after trying each out for a few days.

NancyMeyers · 29/03/2026 14:30

Good idea. I find that when I apply them at home, they sit on my pores by my nose.

Buggabootwo · 29/03/2026 14:31

I recently came across a brand called Delilah which has been formulated for older skin. Can heartily recommend the foundation (though don’t bother with the under eye stuff).

AtIusvue · 29/03/2026 14:37

Id avoid a full coverage look and just apply light layers to the patchy areas.

I have rosecea, so always have red patches. When younger, could cover completely and looked fine. Now, full coverage makes me look older. So I apply a light foundation only to my reddish areas. Everyday is different, so sometimes I have to wear more or sometimes much less. But you can still see some redness, but this looks better than a full face of foundation.

The make up artist everyone wants right now is
Nina Park. Her look is a very light coverage, only using what you need, where you need it.

BewleyBear · 29/03/2026 14:41

I recently bought Trinny London BFF All Day and also BFF Skin Perfector, which are both lightweight creams. Different things for different people though and it’s a continuous game of trial and error as my skin ages!

I don’t really wear foundation anymore as it likes to gather in my (many) wrinkles these days. Confused

Flatinbed · 29/03/2026 14:51

I am always on the hunt for a non-masque-like skin-like foundation that smooths me out.

I use erborian cc cream too. But I mix half and half clair and dore. It doesn't last the whole day though.

I wish i had the money for Chanel water teint. Instead i turn up to the airport, slather it on and act nonchalant when the sales assistant approaches me.

But next on my list to try is Armani Beauty’s Skin Tint. Does anyone use it?

RoniaCheetah · 29/03/2026 14:54

I'm a recent convert to Sculpted by Aimee's Cream cushion foundation (although I use a brush rather than the little puff). Really light and buildable.

Allseeingallknowing · 29/03/2026 14:57

Go to the thread further up, where OP is delighted with her new foundation !

How do you apply? Slightly damp sponge works best for me.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 29/03/2026 15:17

I like Hydraluminous but the colours are terrible. Too pink / grey / pale for me.

Boots number 7 in Calico

I’ve just recently ‘found’ this as well, was very pleased with the finish on my skin, and so reasonably priced too.

LieLowLulu · 29/03/2026 16:14

Bobbi Brown Weightless foundation. Lightweight and in 42 shades.

Agree, I bought it twice and Calico is too pink and a greyish tinge.
Nice if you can get the right shade.

The issue with Boots No 7 is the range of colours is very limited to maybe 8-10?
Other brands have over 40 shades.

dementedpixie · 29/03/2026 16:30

The number 7 protect and and perfect in calico is a good shade for me. The hydraluminous is a bit darker. The essentially natural is ok for me too.

I really like this brand plus they're British and cruelty free win win!
