How TF do I get rid of these blackheads?

DS(12) has had these blackheads in his ear for months. I’ve tried to squeeze, pry and suck them out with a syringe. Poke with a needle.

Any advice? I can’t really get a good grip to be able to put much pressure on.

TIA!

One of those metal black head tools with a scoop end

BillieWiper · 26/03/2026 12:00

A really thin pair of tweezers? And show us the evidence! 😜

smilesy · 26/03/2026 12:03

A kirby grip (hair grip) works well if you don’t have a blackhead removing tool. Press the curved end over
one side of the blackhead

HooseMidden · 26/03/2026 12:05

Used @smilesy suggestion for years.

Video it and post on Sporners Corner for us 😉

Shufflebumnessie · 26/03/2026 12:07

Apply Salicylic Acid for a few weeks to exfoliate inside the pores and break down the build up.

Before trying to remove them, use a warm compress to soften the area & use a comedone extractor tool.

If they still won't budge, I'd imagine you'd need to see a Dermatologist for extraction.

dementedpixie · 26/03/2026 12:13

My mum used to use a kirby grip on mine

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 26/03/2026 12:15

Just leave them alone? Why do they need removing unless they're causing discomfort.

Fatiguedwithlife · 26/03/2026 12:32

Thank you I’ll try some suggestions
I don’t want other kids saying her ‘dirty’ (to the PP who asked why remove). Remember the old saying ‘growing potatoes in your ears!’

I had these and then I switched headphones and they went away. My mum was gutted she didn’t get to pick them, but switching from inner ear to overhead helped for me.

Oneborneverydecade · 26/03/2026 14:13

Her ears don't look dirty though? I'd leave them alone

AnotherSliceOfCakePlease · 26/03/2026 15:31

Metal blackhead tool, cheap as anything and does a great job, alternatively Kirby grip.

a Bic pen lid, get the blackhead inside the circle and apply pressure.

shouldicontactthisperson · 26/03/2026 16:29

Don’t forget to post a photo of the results please 🙏

That is inspired!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 26/03/2026 18:20

A calpol syringe has worked for me before now. Desperate time - not quite good enough contortionist. Live alone.

Gettingbysomehow · 26/03/2026 19:20

Id get them right out with a scalpel ...Im a professional though so DON'T try that. Sterlise a needle and get the hard top bit out very carefully and then do the bic pen thing mentioed above or a syringe.
I'll take a bet that everyone on here is now inspecting their ears 😂

Roastiesarethebestbit · 26/03/2026 19:37

i am astonished your 12 year old
has allowed you to photograph his ear, let alone mess about trying to squeeze his blackheads. My 12 year old would throw an absolute fit!

Dewbery · 26/03/2026 19:48

Watching with interest as my teen has some on her nose and they just will not go. Have tried steaming, salicylic acids, clay mask, hot flannel, two different types of extraction tools and they all seem to make them worse. Particularly salicylic acid.

The only thing mentioned here I haven’t tried is the bic pen lid. Haven’t got any bic pens though.

dementedpixie · 26/03/2026 19:59

@Dewbery they could be sebaceous filaments rather than blackheads

TheJoyousHiker · 26/03/2026 20:43

Are you sure they are blackheads and not freckles ?

DustyMaiden · 26/03/2026 20:50

Salicylic acid cleanser. After a few days they washed away with an exfoliating cloth.

Grumpynan · 26/03/2026 20:54

I swear by tcp, soak some on cotton wool and swap the area, it might take a few goes but it drys them out. I used it in my youth and all my children did

Blueuggboots · 26/03/2026 20:56

Hair grip!

NormasArse · 26/03/2026 20:56

Dissemble a biro. Use the casing and put the small (nib ) end over the blackhead, the apply pressure. The blackhead will pop out.

I know this because a doctor did it to my ear blackhead which was so huge, I thought I had a tick… 😬

ApplePieTree · 26/03/2026 21:34

This looks like my 12 yo’s ear two days ago. In fact, his was worse. He tends to produce quite a lot of wax - I’m not sure if it’s related.

Anyway, a couple of days ago I bought a Tweezerman black+whitehead remover off Amazon and after he’d had a long soak in the bath, the blackheads popped out beautifully with the tool. Very satisfying and now his ears look clean as a whistle.
