How TF do I get rid of these blackheads?

Fatiguedwithlife · 26/03/2026 11:57

DS(12) has had these blackheads in his ear for months. I’ve tried to squeeze, pry and suck them out with a syringe. Poke with a needle.

Any advice? I can’t really get a good grip to be able to put much pressure on.

TIA!

Just leave them alone? Why do they need removing unless they're causing discomfort.

Because they look horrible?

Dissemble a biro. Use the casing and put the small (nib ) end over the blackhead, the apply pressure. The blackhead will pop out.

I know this because a doctor did it to my ear blackhead which was so huge, I thought I had a tick… 😬

😅

shellyleppard · 26/03/2026 22:06

My son had some, I got the tweezers on them. Big gunky ones 🤢🤣

Monthlymonster · 26/03/2026 22:51

I love a good root around in the kids ears for blackheads. Heartened to see it’s not just me.

You need to buy the special tool though it’s just so efficient. Pens etc do work though.

Justlikejessiesgirl · 26/03/2026 23:05

Our daughter suffers from these too. I got a pack of syringes off amazon and suck them out after a bath or shower, sooo satisfying and you see what comes out inside the body of the syringe….😬

Snoff · 26/03/2026 23:14

Do nothing. From what you've said, they're not causing any issues and no other kids have actually said anything about them. Would he even know they were there if you hadn't told him?

Making a big deal of it and insisting on removal risks making kids self conscious about their skin.

Longsight2019 · 26/03/2026 23:38

Some wonderful extraction vids to be had on YouTube etc.

Can you link to the syringes please? 🙏

@Dewbery they could be sebaceous filaments rather than blackheads

Was about to say the same thing.

Try The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid toner a few nights ago week, apply with a cotton pad. It is an exfoliator which helps to clear out any dirt and grease and helps with sebaceous filaments. Just make sure they use an SPF of at least 30 (ideally 50) as it will make their skin more sensitive and susceptible to sun damage.

Dewbery · 27/03/2026 06:34

Def blackheads, Showed a photo to a beauty therapist. She said she could extract but it can be quite painful and DD doesn’t do pain 😆 they are raised and look like they want to come out but quite deep and won’t budge. I tried the Paula’s choice BHA amongst other things, can’t shift them they just go red and look sore. A simple cleaning routine has taken the redness away and they are back to normal blackheads but definitely raised not flat.

Because they look horrible?

And because if they're not removed, they'll just get bigger and bigger over time.

This is bad advice. Left alone, they'll get worse.

Watching with interest as my teen has some on her nose and they just will not go. Have tried steaming, salicylic acids, clay mask, hot flannel, two different types of extraction tools and they all seem to make them worse. Particularly salicylic acid.

The only thing mentioned here I haven’t tried is the bic pen lid. Haven’t got any bic pens though.

My son had some on his nose that we just couldn't shift or get pressure on to remove, we used acnecide face wash (it's called gel and is about a tenner for a tube. Purple one.) and it got rid of them all and kept them away.

Tbh I think those are the same thing but they've probably decided to change the name one way or another!

The ingredients look the same.

The other one they do is less medicated and has blue packaging.

If you try the purple one it's meant to be left on for a bit so my son puts it all over his face and then washes the rest of his body while it sits for a little while.

SilverBlue56 · 27/03/2026 16:26

Sorry my post should have said yes that's the one. And that I think they're both the same product even though the name is a bit different.

SilverBlue56 · 27/03/2026 16:28

Oh my word, I'm having a bad brain day. I've realised the difference.

It's the face wash gel we use (larger tube)

The smaller face gel is like a cream you put and leave on, but it feels greasy and bleaches fabric.

Fatiguedwithlife · 27/03/2026 18:17

Okay I’ve ordered the tweezerman tool and the acnecide wash.
I’ll report back in due course! Thank you ☺️

Jesus Christ. Don’t listen to people on here. You could cause a nasty infection by doing most of these suggestions.
Either leave them be or ask in the pharmacy.
It is completely out of order asking someone to film themselves messing around with their child’s skin and post it online for strangers to watch. What is wrong with some people?
Just because you like doing this type of thing doesn’t mean your should advise others to do it. It’s called dermotillimania to be obsessive about skin picking and it’s a psychological disorder. People who like picking at their own skin, fair enough. Leave your kids (and other peoples’) alone fgs. It’s really fucking creepy.

Greyandgreen · 27/03/2026 20:13

Removing a couple of blackheads is not the same as dermotillomania.
I very much doubt OP was going to film it to satisfy a pp.

Awishcometrue · 27/03/2026 20:14

Fatiguedwithlife · 26/03/2026 12:32

Thank you I’ll try some suggestions
I don’t want other kids saying her ‘dirty’ (to the PP who asked why remove). Remember the old saying ‘growing potatoes in your ears!’

Blackhead removel strips, they're designed for over your nose but you could cut them down and will pull them straight out try these

Fatiguedwithlife · 27/03/2026 21:51

Good call @Awishcometrueive got some of those.
im a qualified nurse so wont be causing him any harm, don’t worry @Slowdivesim just frustrated with these stubborn spots!

Mumandcarer80 · 27/03/2026 21:55

I’ve never had blackheads but the odd time I get a spot I put Germolene on it. It gets the head out without having to squeeze it. Usually gone by a day or 2.
