Does anyone else find Uniqlo stores and website overwhelming to shop?

Influencers obviously love it and I'll admit to being influenced into buying the barrel leg jersey trousers, which I love. However I find going into the store overwhelming and the website is not much better. I find the sheer volume of clothes, the shelving height and lack of open space frustrating, I can't find anything. It makes me want to avoid (DH likes theirs clothes so we still pop in). Maybe it's because we don't have a store locally so I'm only in there about once a quarter.

I don't mind the actual stores, but do tend to go in with an idea of what I need and also I know my size, so I don't bother trying clothes on at least. The website is oddly hostile. I often just want to browse kids clothes and it wants me to look at separate categories so I lose the will to live and buy nothing. I also think their lookbooks are often odd but that's obviously a fashion preference so maybe I'm just out of touch in terms of workwear or spring fashion.

They’re always busy so I do feel this a bit - I try not to go on Saturdays or weekday lunchtimes. The Edinburgh store is very spacious compared to some.

IjustbelieveinMe · 24/03/2026 11:04

I presume it’s the same layout worldwide, but I notice where I live the same clothes are placed in multiple locations within the store and you start to realise there isn’t a vast range of clothes to choose from. But I really love Uniqlo so not complaining lol

thedevilinablackdress · 24/03/2026 11:14

It's the sort of place I go in for something I need, rather than for a browse. So that helps me focus. And I avoid at the weekend when it's busy.

BauhausOfEliott · 24/03/2026 11:17

Oh, I love the stores. I never use the website though, I find it weirdly user-unfriendly.

Hoppinggreen · 24/03/2026 11:18

The stores are fine but busy at weekends, the website was ok but they changed it about 6 months ago (I think) and its awful now

newbeggins · 24/03/2026 11:21

I want to buy their stuff on the app but I can’t ever see stuff I like

Pistachiomonster · 24/03/2026 11:22

We don’t have a branch near us but the branches I have visited are all very busy and chaotic. I am also unsure about how the sizing works and the length/lengths of things and whether they would actually have any clothes to fit me as I am tall and plus sized. I have almost tried some things on but thats as far as I have got.

Onelemonsaidsqueeze · 24/03/2026 11:23

Me and I've tried UK stores, Toronto and Asian stores too. They're all too small, tight and overwhelming. the website is naff

Oneborneverydecade · 24/03/2026 11:26

It's such a shame because I often see influencers with things I'd like to try e.g. the perfect white t-shirt but I lose the will in store.
The problem is quite probably that our nearest stall is small and we only ever go at weekends, although I've left the bigger Battersea Power Station store empty handed too.

I was looking forward to the Leeds store opening later this year…. Maybe not now! I’ve never been to an actual Uniqlo shop, but have bought one or two things online.

WheretheFishesareFrightening · 24/03/2026 11:52

I’ve only ever been to the Manchester store and I find it quite shoppable. It’s a big store over multiple floors, and I think it’s easy enough to browse.

I see it as a shop for basics, so I can go in, look at t shirts/jumpers/shorts easily enough, pick up what I want and then leave.

NancyJoan · 24/03/2026 11:58

The stores are definitely overwhelming; very little floor space around the low level rails/tables, combined with very high shelves all around. The website is okay if you know you want eg. Jersey Barrel Leg trousers, but hopeless for a general browse. However, I do love their clothes, so I persevere.

MidnightPatrol · 24/03/2026 12:00

The website is astonishingly bad.

Almost impossible to use. I don’t know why they persist with it as they must be losing customers.

TeaAndToastedCrumpets · 24/03/2026 12:11

I'm probably the only one who doesn't mind the updated website (it does take getting used to). I either look at what sales they have on or at a specific category and I do the same thing in stores too. I've been shopping there for 20+ years and although they've added new items, it's more or less the same type of things. It becomes less overwhelming when you know what would work and what to skip. A bit like in the supermarket when you walk through the aisles but don't look at every item 😅

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 24/03/2026 12:26

I quite like the website, it suits my brain. Which is now making me wonder about my brain compared to the general population. Grin

I've only been into a shop once and found it very dense. I couldn't spot anything from a distance, I had to walk down every aisle to find things I was interested in.

The Manchester store is good so if Leeds is the same then you should be fine, I am looking forward to it opening

SirChenjins · 24/03/2026 13:20

I like the website too - straight to the point, no faffing about, easy to navigate. The Edinburgh store is great too, lots of space.

AnyQuestions101 · 24/03/2026 13:28

I know what you mean. The Regent St flagship is less overwhelming and better laid out, especially if you go early in the day

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/03/2026 13:39

I find it best to go into the store at opening time so it’s easier to have a look around before it starts to get busy. After 11am in our local store is unbearable.

Handeyethingyowl · 24/03/2026 13:44

Yes. I have only ever bought two items which were good but recommended by someone. I can’t cope with the website for a browse and don’t have a store (and hate clothes shopping in person).

GameOfJones · 24/03/2026 13:58

I hate hate hate the website. I also think it makes a lot of the clothes look rubbish compared to how nice they are in person for some strange reason.

Therefore I only buy in store, the Oxford one can get really busy at peak times so I tend to go as soon as it opens. Now I have a better idea of what I like and what my sizing is it's easier as I can avoid a lot of the shop. I persevere as most of my favourite clothes are from there!

GinandGingerBeer · 24/03/2026 14:19

The best one I’ve been in is the one near King’s Cross. coal drops yard? Set out really well and it was quiet when I went in. I hate the regent st store and always end up walking out again. I’ve not tried Manchester but DS reckons it’s good.
online I find their sizing odd. Why can’t you select leg length within the jersey barrel trousers without having to find the separate imagine for R/S or long?

Nomedshere · 24/03/2026 14:21

I only like Coal Drops Yard one

Busybeemumm · 24/03/2026 14:28

I feel claustrophobic in the Oxford st one.
