Anyone tried skin peels at home? Need something for the revolting blackheads or SFs on my nose.

Excuse the horrible photos! My skin is generally quite good and I have a solid skincare routine in place that I’m really consistent with. I apply tretinoin 0.025% each night-I may try and increase the strength again but when I go up strengths just on my nose I peel all over my face which is too annoying to continue. I also apply salicylic acid each morning. I’ve tried other acids over the years but I can’t get rid of the horrible blackheads and oily skin.
I’m now wondering about peels at home. I’m on the US Platinum skincare peels Facebook page and the results look great but I don’t really want to buy a peel from the US and pay import duty. So wondering here if anyone has tried a UK seller and would recommend a specific peel. Thanks.

This poster has transformed her skin, I saw this post the other night about SF. Mine improved when I started using niacinamide after my morning cleanse and using Azelaic acid a couple of nights a week, alternating with retinal. She has another post on products that help, I will go and get a link and post separately because otherwise this post will crash when I switch apps to get it.

She does start with salicylic acid & retinol, but then has a couple of other suggestions

Thanks. I think I’ve tried that but just can’t really get my head around how an occlusive moisturiser can help. Maybe I need to try it more often? Think I tried it once and gave up!

Slightly counterintuitive but try upping the hydration, it may be dehydration making it more obvious. When I added more hydration/moisturiser to my routine, they suddenly became a lot less obvious (and also my skin became less oily)!

Haven't watched the tiktok but that may be behind the occlusive moisturiser step, especially if you're using salicylic acid and retinol.

sociableintrovert123 · 21/03/2026 13:59

Yeah I’ve read about upping hydration too and do try. I wear layers of Korean toners and serums before my SPF each day but I’ll maybe add a moisturiser too and see how that goes. The video did say they were permanent and nothing can get rid of them forever so think I’ll just need to keep trying to cover them!

Honestly it might just be texture i have similar on my nose i thought it was blackheads too, also when you are watching tik toks or whatever these creators have filters on and you are not seeing real skin, I don't want to be condescending but you might be too focused on your imperfections as a negative.

sociableintrovert123 · 21/03/2026 16:12

Thanks @Lomonald not condescending at all. I do focus on my skin imperfections too much. I have a magnifying mirror which doesn’t help!

Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Facial Scrub 150ml | LOOKFANTASTIC https://share.google/5MnaqD9LxUhD18qiP

This stuff is amazing

whoTFismadelaine · 21/03/2026 16:21

I have similar and the only time I feel my nose looks clear is after cleansing with a clay face wash. As soon as I moisturise it feels like it gets clogged in the pores again, so I try not to moisturise my nose. Unless I wear foundation I can see them most of the time but less visible when I cleanse.

sociableintrovert123 · 21/03/2026 16:26

@MrsCarmelaSoprano ordered thanks! Though I thought physical scrubs were a complete no no now in skincare. The reviews say it’s a finely milled scrub so maybe that’s okay?
@whoTFismadelaine I just used the Ordinary’s charcoal salicylic acid mask and that has really helped so I need to remember and use it regularly. I’ll check out some clay face washes too. Any recommendations?

Get a hydrafacial they will unclog it all

Awishcometrue · 21/03/2026 17:37

Blackhed removal strips are great! My partner suffers terribly, these work great for pulling them out...also really satisfying to see them on the strip

I agree about getting a hydra facial. That’s where you begin and then you can maintain at home.

shellyleppard · 21/03/2026 17:45

Old fashioned remedy but witch hazel is very good for cleaning skin. Its in boots x

sociableintrovert123 · 21/03/2026 17:50

I’ve never had a hydrafacial. Will definitely try it-sounds gorgeous.

Paula’s choice bha will de clog everything after about 6 weeks. Use as a toner in the evening, and your face will be an oil slick in the morning for a couple of days. And yes keep hydrated. Your skin produces more oil to stop it losing moisture otherwise, which causes pore blockages.

oh and hydrafacials or crystal clear microdermabrasion will lift them temporarily. Lovely facials.

rosycheex · 21/03/2026 20:35

I use my electric toothbrush gently with a bit of soap. Seems to clear them.

Same here, kaolin clay from super drug.

pinksquash13 · 21/03/2026 20:56

Sebaceous filaments . They are not acne or blackheads, but can appear as dark, pinprick-sized dots when pores fill with oil

ConstitutionHill · 21/03/2026 21:26

Another one here recommending a clay mask.

RavenclawWitchy · 21/03/2026 21:30

Are you sure they are blackheads OP and not Sebaceous Filaments?

BlahBlahName · 21/03/2026 21:36

You need sulphur to clear SF. They will keep coming back so need something that works daily. Eradicate sulphur cleanser has really helped mine. I use it every morning in the shower. You need to really clean your skin, not just a quick swish, but gently. So apply, rub over face and scrub nose, but super gently, like cleaning something off the skin of a ripe peach. Leave on for at least a minute or two then rinse.
