Frizz-Ease disappointment

blueirises · 20/03/2026 13:17

Why have John Frieda changed all the Frizz-Ease products? Not only have they discontinued some of my favourites, others (like the serum) now have a horrible smell. Any other recommendations for frizzy, wavy hair that I always wear straight? That don't smell like a pipe tobacco pouch?

Don’t know but the serum no longer helps with my flyaway hair. Wish they’d leave stuff alone

Arlanymor · 20/03/2026 13:24

It’s crap isn’t it? I look like Crystal Tipps. Does anyone know if the Bread brand is any good? I keep seeing it in Boots and I would be tempted to try it if it wasn’t on the pricey side. Not worth an expensive mistake!

MadisonMontgomery · 20/03/2026 13:25

No advice on products as I never found any that helped my frizzy hair - however Nanoplastica has been life changing!

CluckerHam · 20/03/2026 13:26

Really liking WOW Dreamcoat (use every 4 washes, when blow drying) and WOW pop & lock (use every time)

blueirises · 20/03/2026 13:38

Thanks for the recommendations, but they're making me realise how much I rely on Frizz-Ease. It was easy to get hold of, loads of different products, not too expensive, almost always on 3 for 2 or something... (I also loved John Frieda's Detox and Repair shampoo, but they seem to have marketed it abysmally so that it died a death).

I don't want something I have to buy online, and I need to replace shampoo, conditioner, serum and 3 Day Straight spray. Perhaps I've just been sucked in by clever marketing?

Can't help thinking they've shot themselves in the foot by changing products people really like.

Moroccan oil spray works but is a hell of a lot more faff because it’s quite heavy and non-absorbent compared to the old frizz-ease serum, and if you overspray it can form oily strands. I tend to spray a bit into my palm and make sure it’s just a thin layer on my hands before running it through my hair.

That's a good tip. I have super fine hair (but a lot of it) and I always worry about potential overload.

I'm gutted they also seemed to have stopped selling the midnight Brunette shampoo and conditioners, which was great to smoothe away my few greys and depend my overall colour easily.

deeahgwitch · 20/03/2026 14:18

I looked up Nanoplastica @MadisonMontgomery
Do you do it yourself or go to a salon ?

Yes I loved the flawlessly straight stuff, I've bought the new smooth range but it's nowhere near as good

I go to a salon, but you could definitely do it at home if you had someone to help you do the back so you can get right to your roots.

I think they still sell the 3 day straight spray don't they? I'd be lost without it but I saw it was still on sale with the new branding so I was hoping it hasn't changed. I haven't run out yet so if it has I will treasure what I have left!

blueirises · 20/03/2026 15:07

I'm guessing the 3 Day Straight will have a horrible smell, if it's like the serum, and the conditioner I had a sniff of today. And if you use a few of the products, the smell will be cumulative.

I wish I'd bulk-bought a couple of months ago

I have coarse thick frizzy hair. For a smoothing serum I ca recommend Tigi bedhead after party serum. It’s the only one I’ve found that can tame my crazy mop!

Whosthetabbynow · 20/03/2026 15:20

My hair is fine and prone to static/flyaway. The best product for it was a leave in mist by The Hair Boss. Discontinued so I’ve been using the John Freida serum or cream and the Miracle spray (both together). They’ve stopped working ☹️

Gwenhwyfar · 20/03/2026 15:25

I use Garnier hair wax on my flyaways. Not a perfect solution either.

Whosthetabbynow · 20/03/2026 15:37

Just did a bit of research and John Freida have now got a Touch Up Crème. It’s only been available since January. Says it’s a leave-in product for flyaways. Only £6 on Amazon. Might have to give it a go. It looks like they’ve changed a lot of their packaging so no doubt the products inside have been tweaked too

blueirises · 20/03/2026 15:42

I know I'm being petulant, and there are far more things to worry about in the world, but I just want to go into Boots and have a proper lying on the floor, kicking my legs toddler tantrum about it all. WHY?

Whosthetabbynow · 20/03/2026 16:07

@blueirises Oh I know! Could scream. I look like a scarecrow!

Motnight · 20/03/2026 18:08

Oh god. The John Frieda serum has been the only thing that helped my frizzy fine hair. Bugger.

Appleberrybloom · 20/03/2026 18:31

I'm a fan of the OGX range. I've mainly used their brazillian smooth conditioner but know they do other products in the range

Yearningallovertheplace · 20/03/2026 18:39

Which of the new serums have you tried? I randomly picked one (think it was the "Repair" one), wrote to them complaining, and they said the "Moisture renew" one is the most similar to the old "Original", and sent me a bottle. I think it's basically as good but still experimenting with how many pumps are necessary.

I looked like I had been dipped 3 a chip pan when I used it. Never again

DancingFerret · 20/03/2026 18:52

Elvive Frizz Killer Serum works for my unruly mop (currently on offer at Boots).

blueirises · 20/03/2026 18:55

I have to be honest, I've used the Extra Strength Serum a few times and I haven't actually noticed a less good performance. I put on a tiny amount after drying and straightening. But I really don't like the smell. And if all the other stuff has the same smell, it's just really off putting
