Which I have always thought were utterly hideous and should only be worn by Dutch architects- they’re growing on me!
do they fall off your feet if you walk quickly?

@previouslyknownas I disagree. I think they look lovely with or without socks, cropped jeans and a slouchy jumper and I’ve seen lots of stylish women wear them. They have been fashionable for a couple of years-however I agree they aren’t ‘beautiful’ in the elegant sense. If you are interested in what’s in fashion and wear these, I would class that as the opposite as giving up on life. I would add I don’t have a pair. When I tried them on and looked down I thought they looked too wide. However I love them on other women.

They just look absolutely horrible the sort of shows you see old ladies wearing cos they can’t wear anything else
To me they are Fugly

They don't fall off. They are for quite specific feet though, not flat feet. Try before you buy, if you have flat feet and they're painful on you that will not get better. I love mine, but I have arches. They're my go to for long flights, amongst other things.

I have flat feet and they’ve done wonders for me.

@Twoshoesnewshoes I’ve never slipped out of them. I have plantar fasciitis and Birkenstocks have really helped.

They are fugly but in a cool way. I feel really trendy when I wear mine with slouchy socks. ☺️

I went for a massage today and the first thing the therapist said was ‘I love your birkies’.

I love my Birkenstock bostons. They take a bit to break in like all Birks but once done - they are so comfortable. I live in them when it’s not winter.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 21/03/2026 18:55

Maybe I need to try some on and have a swift hike round the shoe shop

Though I have found original Birkenstock very uncomfortable. I have a primark fake pair for hanging out the washing and they’re okay .

Birks are one of those shoes that need to be worn in in order to be comfortable. You have to persevere through the first few times. Once your feet have molded the foot bed of the shoe they are amazing.

I think a lot of people give up too soon

The only Birkenstocks that I've ever found remotely comfortable are the Manolo collabs. The rest are some of the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever had.

You can get “Soft bed” birks now that don’t need as much breaking in and softening. Once you do get to that point though - they are moulded to you feet and really comfortable.

@previouslyknownas i’m a lecturer and lots of my students (male and female) wear Bostons - definitely not just for old ladies.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 22/03/2026 08:55

i might try the new look ones for £20 and see how I get on. They can easily be relegated to putting out the recycling shoes at that price.

I went out for dinner with my son’s 20 year old gf and we were both wearing Bostons (with socks).
