Which I have always thought were utterly hideous and should only be worn by Dutch architects- they’re growing on me!
do they fall off your feet if you walk quickly?

@BananaSkinShoes which socks do you use? I can never get it quite right, size 9 feet and love my Birkies!

From Uniqlo - 3 pack of ‘slouch socks’.

They don't fall off. They are for quite specific feet though, not flat feet. Try before you buy, if you have flat feet and they're painful on you that will not get better. I love mine, but I have arches. They're my go to for long flights, amongst other things.

Birks are one of those shoes that need to be worn in in order to be comfortable. You have to persevere through the first few times. Once your feet have molded the foot bed of the shoe they are amazing.

I think a lot of people give up too soon

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/03/2026 15:23

Love them. I have taupe leather ones, black leather ones, and tan suede ones, plus chocolate brown shearling lined slippers. Super comfy and look good with or without socks.

Peridot1 · 20/03/2026 15:32

I love the look of them. Have loved clogs since the 70s but my mum wouldn’t let me have any. (Yes I am that old).

Got the M&S version last year to wear as slippers and they were great. So comfy. Then bought Celtic & Co version in olive green which were ok.

Finally got the real thing and I find them so uncomfortable! And I normally love Birkies and have had various styles. The clogs hurt my toes.

LifeBeginsToday · 20/03/2026 15:37

I have these but only wear them in the garden. I feel they should be worn outside as actual shoes given the price, but I never bring myself to choose them.

turkeyboots · 20/03/2026 15:58

My Boston suede one have slightly stretched over time and now they do fall off my feet. Which is very sad. And the insides have got smooth so wearing them with socks is tricky.

trainedopossum · 21/03/2026 01:09

Try the Tokios, they’re like Bostons but they have a heel strap.

icreatedascene · 21/03/2026 05:07

I didn't want to pay the money so bought a pair of very similar Heavenly Feet ones as recommended on here. Love them, but they are very 'slippy' on certain surfaces, I've slipped and fallen over in public three times now. Are Birks any better? Also, how do they fare in wet weather? Do they stain easily? I'd either go for the wool felt or camel coloured suede.

crayonmess · 21/03/2026 06:39

I have the Boston & wouldn’t wear them for walking as I can’t stride as normal. Great for the house though.

SUUUUUUNNNNN · 21/03/2026 06:59

I love my Boston Birkenstocks, on my second pair and only have the felted ones. Have just bought a pair of the London Brown oiled ones (with the back) as I have weird feet that seem to rub in anything I wear - these however are so comfy.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 21/03/2026 07:46

Thanks all
sounds like they might be a bit slippy

I dont really like the big clumpy look. I prefer orthopaedic sole flip flops in summer. I find them very comfortable. My sister swears by birkies though.

I had Dr Scholls clogs and also their ‘exercise sandals’ when I was a teenager in the 70s - mum got them for both of us because she reckoned they were good for our feet. Which compared to the platforms and wedges I bought myself they definitely were.😂

I’ve never had any Birkenstocks and now I’m wondering why not. My big toes don’t bend much and are enlarged, a bit of arthritis I suppose, not sure if clogs would be good or bad for them?

brightnails · 20/03/2026 10:55

way too wide for my feet, so yes they fall off even between car and work . to be fair there’s all whole science to Birkenstock fitting, visit a store

Can you drive in them?

When the insoles get shiny I clean them with a drop of washing up liquid in warm water and a spoon. I use the spoon to scrape the surface and it raises the surface texture of the insole again.

previouslyknownas · 21/03/2026 14:35

I know this is style and beauty but there is nothing Stylish or beautiful about these

i just googled them - as my mate mentioned them a few weeks ago

they are vile frumpy and just horrible
they might be comfy to wear but they just look like something my great nan would have liked

I think if I bought them it would be a sign I’m giving up in life in general and becoming a frumpy old women

not everyone has good style though so the above is more a symptom of that.

1000StrawberryLollies · 21/03/2026 15:01

I really like them and ordered some last year. They were way too wide for my feet, would have fallen off and looked clownish on me, unfortunately. I sent them back.

PeonyBulb · 21/03/2026 15:14

I only wear Birkenstocks around the house. I don’t find them comfortable anymore for the amount of walking I do so I stick to trainers outside.

Trampoline · 21/03/2026 15:50

I bought the Arizona's last year as felt i needed to join in with these apparently comfy sandals- but hardly wore them as I found the weird sole shape so uncomfortable! Interesting to hear someone here say your feet get used to them - they honestly really hurt the soles of my feet! Are all birkies like this in terms of that funny moulded sole?
The Bostons are so popular, loads of young people wear them (..to the person who referenced something granny would wear!)

Yes the moulded sole is their usp. Are you sure you’ve got the correct size?

I think it’s a marmite thing, the first time I put on a pair of Birks in the 90s it was like my whole foot relaxed in places I didn’t know it could relax. Decades later I got plantar fasciitis and Birks have sorted it. (I also use rigid insoles in trainers and boots, but Birks need no adjustments.)

The sizing is also completely consistent, I only ever take the same size in every style (which is more than I can say for New Balance) and the new narrow width is an improvement (for me) too.

Fwiw I have big flat flipper feet, no almost no arch, narrow heels.

sociableintrovert123 · 21/03/2026 16:21

@previouslyknownas I disagree. I think they look lovely with or without socks, cropped jeans and a slouchy jumper and I’ve seen lots of stylish women wear them. They have been fashionable for a couple of years-however I agree they aren’t ‘beautiful’ in the elegant sense. If you are interested in what’s in fashion and wear these, I would class that as the opposite as giving up on life. I would add I don’t have a pair. When I tried them on and looked down I thought they looked too wide. However I love them on other women.

Lugol · 21/03/2026 16:47

I have the ones with black sheepskin foot beds and I have lived in them since.
They don't come off. I wish Birkenstock did replacement black sheepskin footbeds but they only do cream ones. Their customer service is awful too

They do narrow fit too now, I don't know if that's a recent thing. DH bought me some for Christmas but I have feet like Bilbo Baggins so I haven't worn them yet.
I agree I think they look great on. They are just clogs and how can clogs not be stylish. They are a classic.

MissNowt · 21/03/2026 16:52

Bought the camel coloured suede ones with the buckle on the side last week @Twoshoesnewshoes. They aren’t at all slippy. Am still breaking them in but they’re so comfortable. Think the Boston clogs are a bit wider than most other Birkenstocks. For the first time I got my regular size in the narrow fitting & they’re perfect.
