Vinted - Massive Price Increases

newbie202020 · 17/02/2026 21:09

I'd taken a break from Vinted for a few months and had a browse this evening in preparation for a warm holiday.

I'm really surprised to see a big increase in prices - not for sellers who are obviously selling fakes (eg multiple versions of the same item, brand new) but seemingly normal sellers with items for sale at virtually the same price as buying new eg a dress from Zara 'new without tags' but with a picture of the sellers wearing it out for £40. This seems to be very different to just a few months ago.

Equally I've seen a number of sellers with 'new, with tags' items for sale for a few hundred pounds, well in excess of the price of a new River Island/H&M dress. Are others seeing the same and what's driving this? For the very inflated prices, is this a scam? They seem to have been favourites many times.

Totally the opposite for me. I’ve put up a brand new pair of Russell and Bromley biker boots which cost about over 200 for under £60. They’re literally the cheapest brand new pair on there and no offers yet.

no idea why 🤷‍♀️

@LaurieFairyCake Our local Russell & Bromley is having a closing down sale with prices all dramatically slashed. Maybe that’s why. Are they going into administration or similar?

It’s probably because so many buyers send ridiculous offers

True. I've got an item listed for £49 at the.moment which is a good price and the number of offers of £30 I've had is ridiculous. When I get an offer I always check the buyers feedback and if it's 4.6 or below I block them. If it's 5 I'll send a decent counter offer.

I don't understand why so many people with poor feedback send low offers. Why would any seller agree to deal with a potentially problematic buyer for a cheap sale?

MidnightMeltdown · 22/02/2026 20:47

Puppylucky · 22/02/2026 20:34

But sellers don't have to accept ridiculous (in their eyes) offers.

Yeah but it’s irritating to be constantly spammed by them. I don’t think Vinted should allow people to offer 40% below asking, that’s just ridiculous and a waste of everyone’s time.

I'm definitely not noticing this. Last month I bought a real suede Jigsaw long coat for £50 that would have been £450 new, a Gerard Darel shearling coat for £40, some current season Autograph wide leg jeans for £6.50 (I already had a pair the exact same I paid around £50 for), a Celtic and Co fair isle cardigan for £30, etc. The prices for the things I want are so good I'm struggling not to buy even though I was planning on a low buy year. That's well and truly gone out the window!

Edited

I think it very much depends on the budget/audience. If someone can afford to take the gamble on higher value items (I'd say yours are probably mid/high), Vinted is great at the moment. If someone has a tighter budget, it's a tougher market than previously.

Poppins2016 · 22/02/2026 21:15

I (used to) buy a lot of clothes for my children on Vinted, but I'm starting to be put off. Good quality clothing used to be listed at about 30-50% of RRP or less, but I'm starting to find it's creeping up to 60-70% of RRP for "very good". Once you add on buyers fees and postage, there's no point in buying a single item; only bundles with a discount are worth it (if you're lucky enough to manage to find someone offering a range of clothes you like). People need to remember that secondhand items won't sell if the end price for the buyer is too close to the original RRP (unless the product is sought after and sold out via the retailer).

I think because it’s always cheeky fuckers who go in with the low ball offers. Cheeky fuckers display cheeky fuckery behaviour all aspects of life, and therefore end up with lower feedback scores!

treeowl · 23/02/2026 07:36

But it’s a bit odd to accept the low ball offers& then give bad feedback because you are annoyed at the low offer.

@Whowhatwerewolf lower offers are the nature of the beast though so I sort of price it into my selling price if that makes sense.

Who accepts low offers and leaves bad feedback? I certainly don't, and the bad feedback I've seen that the CFs received isn't related to their offers. It's usually about cancelling orders, trying to return things because they don't like them or changed their minds, and even claiming on multiple occasions that items were stained or torn when the seller says they weren't.

I appreciate when these kinds of buyers send offers instead of just purchasing because it gives me a chance to block them before a sale has gone through.

treeowl · 23/02/2026 08:10

@Whowhatwerewolf Im sure some people do.

I genuinely don’t understand why people get so personally offended by a low offer, it’s part of Vinted business model. Why does it mean you are a cheeky fucker?

I got a really low offer the other day, again Vinted allows up to 40% I think? It is what it is.

MizzyDazzy · 23/02/2026 08:15

Well I’m clearly one idiot of a seller as most of my stuff is on there for £1! I just sold a coat my kids had never worn for £2! But to be fair I’m doing it to get rid of stuff not make money, anything that doesn’t sell in a week goes to charity so I’m just about getting stuff out my house!

SuckerForBread · 23/02/2026 08:20

henlake7 · 22/02/2026 16:52

I think it depends on the item. Ive noticed Joanie has gone up, probably due to the company closing down.
Although I just bought a lovely Zara coat for £14 and Im pretty happy with that!

If you can get to an original factory outlet shop (and I think they’re all in administration at the moment not just my local one) they have Joanie X Celia Birtwell dresses and Joanie shoes at 50% discount.

I sat on my hands yesterday to not buy one. Random sizing and patterns but some stunners.

Cuttheshurtains · 23/02/2026 08:25

I prefer Thrift Plus for this reason as they vet the quality of the clothes etc so you aren't relying on the honesty of a random individual

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 23/02/2026 09:35

I have to say that if something is NWT and current season I will assume that it is shoplifted and won't buy it. It was really noticeable during the M&S cyber attack last year when they suspended online orders that there was a huge influx of M&S NWT on Vinted, and I'm sure it was enterprising shoplifters realising that they could capitalise on the gap in the market.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/02/2026 09:39

Manymoresometimes · 22/02/2026 16:35

I was looking for thermal vests/sock and most of them are being sold for the price they paid for them!

I did the opposite yesterday and looked for flip flops. Someone was selling a pair with the £2.50 price tag bang in view on the photos for £15.00!

Rainbowdottie · 23/02/2026 09:45

I started on there at about 2022. It was very different back then, it was more about “saving the planet”. I’m not a reseller, I just put my stuff in there as and when I have a clear out. The thing I’ve noticed the most is the increase of scammers. Not necessarily the outright ones that have always been there…but just everyday people claiming they didn’t get parcels (with photo evidence of it on their doorstep!!) bundles having missing items, people ripping stuff just to get refunds. Vinted customer service has always been awful but people I feel are really taking advantage of this now.

i have seen prices increase. I have a few brands that I shop for and I’ve noticed a big increase. But I guess with the cost of living, we’re all in the same boat. I can’t afford to give my lovely branded well kept items to the charity and I guess other people can’t either. But that said I sell mine for silly prices and I never get those prices off other people!!!!

Floisme · 23/02/2026 10:00

I've not used Vinted long or often enough to know if there's been a change, but I've been surprised at how high the prices are for some brands given that you're buying on the basis of a few photos with little or no chance of return.

gwegig · 23/02/2026 10:16

I’m fairly new to it so can’t compare, but I agree that lots of it seems very overpriced for the brands being sold. Especially when you factor in ‘buyer protection’ 🙄 , p&p and the fact that you can’t try on/ return items.

BrightMintTea · 23/02/2026 11:23

I’ve noticed this too. Some of the “new without tags” prices are wild, often the same or more than buying it new in store. I wonder if some sellers are just listing high to see if anyone bites, especially with popular brands or sold-out items. It definitely feels different to how Vinted used to be a year or so ago..

inthenameofpride · 23/02/2026 12:07

I’m finding the opposite as a seller. I am receiving offers of £2.80 for nearly new quality shoes I could have sold for £10 on eBay five years ago. I still miss the eBay glory days of the 00s!

PeonyPatch · 23/02/2026 12:52

Agree with this, not to mention it’s just downright insulting 😵‍💫

canisquaeso · 23/02/2026 12:59

I’ve noticed that, I honestly just laugh and scroll on. A lot of sellers must be on something.

You can still find occasional great deals, though - I’ve just bought an Allsaints dress for £20. All my NFD dresses are all from vinted too, I love their design but I think the prices the brand charges for the quality of the materials is laughable.

Exactly this, it's always a gamble, unless you've seen and tried on the exact same garment IRL. I'm a looooong term eBay buyer and more recently Vinted and am surprised at the prices in the last couple of years.

Rainbowdottie · 23/02/2026 13:44

Tbh I don’t take many gambles in Vinted. I won’t buy anything unless it’s a good name, because if I don’t like it or it doesn’t fit, I don’t want to be stuck with it..I want to sell it on asap. Better names have more chance in my experience. And it’s rare I’ll buy something that I haven’t already seen or tried on. Or is an absolute staple that I know I can rely on it . I also screenshot and check anything before I buy it, to see what it really up for/reduced to/is it really that item. I recently made a really good offer for a worn monsoon quilted jacket and I was quite shocked when it was declined. So I did a bit of investigating and actually it was in the monsoon sale at only a couple of pounds over the worn one on Vinted. Still a considered purchase for me at £52, but at least I had the ability to send it back for £2 more!

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 23/02/2026 13:53

Interesting thread. I’m new to Vinted but have been very pleased with my purchase. Indeed I’m having to sit on my hands!

Are the cheeky offers from resellers do you think?

Puppylucky · 24/02/2026 19:09

Not from me! I've resold a few things on Vinted but I always price below what I paid for it - not entirely sure why 😐
