Wavy frizzy hair must haves?

Tiredoftractors · 16/02/2026 20:53

Hello!
Since having two babies in 3 years, my hair has gone from being poker straight to naturally wavy with quite a lot of frizz. Hormones truly are mad. I’m quite a wash and go person, and having very thick straight hair previously basically made that absolutely fine way to be but now….less so. Obviously those babies are now two very small children so time is at a premium but I’d love to know some recommendations for helping me lean into the waves but making them look healthy and nice, not my electrocuted look which to be honest, really gets me down as it always just looks like I’ve not made an effort or detracts from my outfits which is a shame because clothes are big form of self expression for me. It is just above shoulder length, and I get a decent cut but just can’t make it look nice at home. So yes, any suggestions hugely welcomed, thank you!

Mine has driven me mad for years, then really went haywire with menopause. I've literally solved it by stopping all the complicated shampoos and conditioners and doing an overnight coconut oil treatment. I use Rose of Bulgaria shampoo and conditioner; I wash my hair every other day, more is too much. On the evening of the day I wash my hair I run a small amount of coconut oil over my hair mainly on ends. My hair is totally different to the point loads of people have noticed 🙂 it was frizzy and wavy before to wild proportions 🙈 do a quick straighten morning before work. Thats it. Finally looks how it does after hairdressers which is brilliant.

hot brush!! (Not the kind that blow hot air)

gisou hair mask (£££ but the only conditioner that’s ever tamed my frizz even slightly)

always looking for a good heat protector, quite like kerastase nectar Thermique but it’s also £££ and I woukd love to find something cheaper (and better; it’s ok but not holy grail)

other than that… I am looking for reccs too! The hot brush has been a game changer but I still do have some frizz, it’s been a lifelong thing so I’m kind of ok with a certain level of frizz now but I do wish it could be sleeker.

Sleeker is 100% what my coconut oil method gave me 👍untameable before

Sorry to hop on your thread OP but Lilybunch could you say where you get your coconut oil?? I must try this!!! Do you sleep with it on overnight? And how much do you use? I saw you said mainly ends but my hair is frizzy all over…

I just buy a jar of pure organic coconut oil, the solid type, you can get online or in health food shops 👍I do ends first and then run hands over rest of hair as the little left on palms is just enough to calm 90% of my frizz and believe me I'm frizzy 😅its literally best thing and simplest thats ever worked- and I've spent a fortune on products over the years 🙈and yes at night just before bed 👍literally an amount size of a mini egg plenty 😅

beadystar · 16/02/2026 21:30

I’m intrigued by the hot brush as a fellow frizzy- could you link it please?

zeddybrek · 16/02/2026 21:38

Another vote for Rose of Bulgaria shampoo. It definitely makes my hair more manageable. Also a former poker straight hair person now battling middle age frizz. Also a very small amount of any hair oil or frizz ease while my hair is wet. Brush it once then air dry. Seems to be working so far.

roycroppersshopper · 16/02/2026 21:41

What is a hot brush that doesn't blow air? I use a babyliss brush that blows hot air and all is well until I step outside into humidity then it's frizz tactic. WOW humidity spray stuff helps but the weather ATM is a nightmare!

Edited

I do this as well. It’s the best thing I’ve ever used on my hair. I sleep with it on overnight with one of those towelling hats on and then just wash as normal in the morning.

I have the Amika Blow-out Babe (awful name!) and it’s good. Just heats up and you use it on dry hair to smooth/add waves depending on your technique level and preference! I only wash my hair once a week (maybe every 6 days) which is another way to combat frizz but means hair has days to frizz up if it’s rainy etc… the hot brush means you can tame the frizz if you got it damp in the rain the day before, for example.

oh also OP a silk pillowcase helps (a bit)

thanks again Lily for the coconut oil recc, I’m going to buy some! I do have low porosity hair though I think (takes HOURS to dry if I leave it to air dry, literally 7-8 hours and it’s only shoulder length) so I don’t know if coconut oil is usually advisable… sounds a great cheap option though so worth a try!!!

Tiredoftractors · 16/02/2026 22:37

This is all GOLD - thank you so much! 100% feel the humidity. Anyone recommend anything that makes waves look a bit more defined?

Answr home keratin treatment is great for frizz reduction, expensive but it lasts about 2 months, and with my thin, shoulder length hair I can get 2 treatments out of one bottle.

ForPinkDuck · 16/02/2026 22:59

crabby what brand please. I need this!

Sherunswithwolves · 16/02/2026 23:01

I bought a hot air brush from Lidl a couple of weeks ago. It was approx £20. I think it's a simple knock off of the Revlon brush - it has one fixed head. I love it. I have hair that's frizzy around the hairline. Accepted the frizz years ago but it's very nice to have sleek hair!

What hot brush would you recommend?

minnowonthesay · 17/02/2026 08:31

I have this hot brush, it’s excellent, you can control the temperature, so less damage.
I use an overnight serum too, that seems to help.
A misting of Frizz Ease hairspray before going outside too really helps keep moisture out.

The brand is called ANSWR... its in an orange & black bottle...it seems to calm your hair down? It's a bit hit and miss with my hair, think it's about £40 a bottle, and I get 2 treatments out of it for my thick, above shoulder bob

minnowonthesay · 17/02/2026 08:51

I’ve also just bought The Number One from MD London, it’s a creamy product you put on damp hair, I’ve only used it twice but I’m very impressed.

SirChenjins · 17/02/2026 08:57

I'm a master of managing the frizz and have finally got it under control.
Shampoo and conditioner - Elvive extraordinary oil
Before blow drying - argan oil (have also used coconut oil as mentioned upthread) and Lee Stafford heat mist
Blow dry when your hair is still wet - very important. Don't let it dry partially.
When 90% dry, go over it in sections with the Babyliss Big Hair - it doesn't give you big hair, itjust smooths it better than any other hot brush I've ever tried
Finally - while your hair is still warm, a light spray of Lee Stafford anti humidity spray and pull it through your hair with your fingers. This stuff is going to the grave with me.

AnchorWHAT · 17/02/2026 09:49

Have you tried a curl product on wet hair then scrunch? It may be that you have nice curls that just need definition. I have frizzy thick hair but if i use a curl cream it makes it much more defined like it’s meant to be that way. I also use a heatless curl band sometimes if i want actual proper curls.

I haven’t ever before but I’ve actually ordered some this morning to give it a go. Think curly hair is as much a state of mind as a hair type 😀

Another one advocating for coconut oil. It's been like a miracle for my hair. What I've found best for me personally is - wash hair. Dry well. I use the John Frieda heat protector. I have a shark hairdryer and use the nozzle to blow dry straight. It also has an attachment that you can use to defrizz. Then a bit of coconut oil through the ends. Too much makes the hair hang and look greasy. Too little has no effect.
During the day I will keep brushing the hair down whenever I pass a mirror.
After that, my hair is generally sleek and shiny for the next couple of days.
I also use silk pillowcases.
