Just used the dog shampoo in desperation for it to feel clean. It’s so horrible. Limp and falling out in handfuls yet greasy after half a day. Hit me up with good shampoo. Have tried
the cheap tea tree one
Cornish seaweed
elive red new one (old one was good now can’t find )
herbal essences normal hair
tresemme cleansing one for a deep clean

left to try :
Vosene
Swarfega

help !!

swarfega 😂

I don’t share your hair type, mine is fine (falling out) and dry. I love this range, I use the tangly hair one and conditioner

Simple range shampoo and conditioner was the only thing that got my hair clean during pre menopause

FortyFacedFuckers · 16/02/2026 21:25

Do you double shampoo?

Dogbreath2 · 16/02/2026 21:29

@FortyFacedFuckers yep. First was dog shampoo then Cornish tonight 😆
@shellyleppard I’ve not seen Simple hair care stuff - off to look now

Try dry shampoo in it once it’s dried and styled to stop it getting greasy as quickly

shellyleppard · 16/02/2026 21:38

@Dogbreath2 its usually in home bargains/boots/ super drug. Good luck x

Dogbreath2 · 16/02/2026 22:30

@GaladrielHiggins I’ve never really got the hang of dry shampoo in clean hair

Vosene anti dandruff
Ultimate blend oat shampoo

Elfie23 · 16/02/2026 22:35

RedKen Amino mint - bit expensive but good!

HorribleHisTories15 · 16/02/2026 22:47

Try a local Afro/ Caribbean grocery shop and ask for Black soap (Dudu Osun brand is very popular, but many other brands available). Used quite often on greasy / spotty skin and also fine for hair use. Price under £3 for a bar of soap. Shouldn’t be a liquid.

I use normal Head & Shoulders now after using various Elvive types for years. They must have changed the formula in the Elvive as my hair had a feeling of dryness yet greasy despite rinsing the product off for ages. It was so weird.

I’ve also switched conditioner to a really cheap one that I picked up from Sainsbury’s on a whim - Herbal Essences Shine the lime one. Hair is unbelievably shiny and not greasy - also very soft!

littlecreeature · 16/02/2026 23:17

Dove 2 in 1 moisture is the only one I can use in same circumstances

ParrotsAteThemAll · 16/02/2026 23:18

a year or so ago I went down a rabbit hole on TikTok to try and deal with my peri hair! It became greasy, thinning and i developed a horrible dry flaky patch. I now use Aveeno apple cider vinegar shampoo when my hair needs a good clean (not every time, I tend to use it a couple of times a month), it deep cleans without feeling like it strips my hair too much. I then use a L’Oréal hydrating shampoo and conditioner (purple one) which might be too much for your hair but it’s hugely helped with my dry patch. I also use a Keratase scalp serum when I remember!

if you’re on TikTok it’s worth doing some research there, there’s lots of very good knowledgeable hairdressers who have excellent advice.

Faith in Nature Grapefruit and Orange. It cleans my hair until it squeaks and it lasts between washes

TheSandgroper · 16/02/2026 23:57

I have a spray bottle of apple cider vinegar in my bathroom and, every once in a while, I spray my roots with it, scrub it around then wash with Dove. My hair is left very soft and clean.

I have previously rinsed my hair with a Calgon solution but can’t get that any more but a weak borax solution might work well.

WindyW · 17/02/2026 00:00

I actually use the Original Source tea tree shower gel on my hair. Found that more helpful than proper shampoos.

canuckup · 17/02/2026 02:53

Johnson's baby shampoo

NailsHairNipsHeels · 17/02/2026 03:27

Ouai clarifying shampoo it’s the only thing that makes my hair soft and clean and stops it getting greasy so quickly. I use it every 4-5 washes. In between I use a L’Oréal in a transparent purple bottle and I only put a tiny amount of conditioner on my very ends of my hair. I finally have hair that can go 3-4 days without washing and looking limp and disgusting.
a tip for dry shampoo put it in at night then sleep with it in. Works far better than applying and drying it straight away.

avoid shampoos with lots of silicone. It costs the hair making it heavy and more prone to looking greasy.

PeonyBulb · 17/02/2026 18:36

Head and shoulders deep cleanse shampoo is great for resetting your hair

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/02/2026 18:38

I use herbal essences colour as I have highlighted hair but use a clarifying shampoo and condition only the ends.

Hankunamatata · 22/02/2026 19:45

Good sulphate free shampoo and it will take up to 4 weeks to transition. OGX is a fav, often on offer in supermarket.

I get highlights and that helps with greasy roots

CoffeeBeansGalore · 22/02/2026 19:51

Faith in Nature Rosemary shampoo
Herbal Essences dazzling shine
L'Occitane Purifying Freshness shampoo.

Shoppingwithafriend · 22/02/2026 21:25

Lush do a good one - Rehab!

Overthemoun · 22/02/2026 21:35

The Liz Earle shampoo is really good for greasy hair but I don’t like the conditioner.

Ive just been using the L’Oréal anti hair fall shampoo and conditioner. It’s sulphate free and nice but too soon to be sure.

this is supposed to be good

I have the same hair as you, I use either Head and Shoulders day to day or Alpecin Double Effect Shampoo if it's very greasy.
