If you have lizard skin

What are your favourite products, secrets, tricks and tips? Face and body. If you've improved your dry, dry skin, what's your regimen?

I do have an underlying medical issue that makes it worse (diabetes) but I want lovely soft gently gleaming skin.

As budget friendly as possible, ideally.

My body is worse than my face. My legs are literally scaly. I've basically got chicken legs.

Help!

Palmer's Body Oil every morning. I like both the coconut and the cocoa butter. The cocoa butter is a bit cheaper but doesn't come in a pump so I have recently decanted it into an empty pump bottle which makes it easier to use. My skin feels a lot better for it and I prefer oil over lotions mostly. You have to be careful not to get it on clothes so leave a little bit of time before getting dressed.

After decades of trying various body lotions the two products that have actually cured the very scaly lizard skin on my lower legs are Eucerin 10% urea cream for very dry skin and Aveeno skin relief lotion for very dry skin.

You need to use regularly so every day or at least every other day.

chateauneufdupapa · 15/02/2026 11:12

Slapping some Aveeno on all over my body takes me 30 secs to a minute max. It absorbs really well so no tiresome rubbing in. I also do almond oil at night. It’s super greasy so you can’t wear nice PJs with it though!

NailsHairNipsHeels · 15/02/2026 11:26

Snail mucin paired with cerave, It’s cured my lizard skin on my face. I occasionally use on my body but I hate the feeling of moisturiser on under my clothes so I’m a bit lax
oh and exfoliating, especially my legs

trainedopossum · 15/02/2026 11:32

I keep a tub of coconut oil on the bath and mix it with body lotion (mine is Neal’s Yard but I don’t think it matters) but I also chuck some Vaseline on now and then. Weleda Skin Food is great too but you can’t beat Vaseline for being cheap, unscented, healing and easy to find.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/02/2026 11:32

For body, Neutrogena or Aveeno are both excellent. I’ve also just bought a Clinique Moisture Surge for body and it’s really lovely.

TheCurious0range · 15/02/2026 11:52

I like rituals for day to day body moisturising, the tubs but for speed the aerosol foam body lotion is really quick to apply. I use shower oil rather than gel loccitane almond, I preferred Shea but they discontinued it, and nuxe body oil straight after the shower on damp skin.
Face is really individual I've tried lots of things but elemis marine collagen seems to work for me, with the balm cleanser at night

I'm not moisturising (body) often enough. I never have enough time in the morning. I think I need to chage my routine and make time for it in the evening.

What does the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream smell like?

It’s hard to describe id say medicinal, strong, pungent, but it dissipates, a little also goes a very long way, I put it on before bed.

I really like the Dove Pro Age body lotion. I use it on my legs after every shower and find it rubs in easily.

I love this too and the one that comes in a jar, rather than the bottle.

Back21970 · 15/02/2026 12:28

I hate the Elizabeth Arden smell although think they did bring out an unscented version.

Body brushing followed by any body moisturising cream helps - the Clarins Firming one is great but I’ve switched to Nivea recently as it was on offer in Boots.

I bought a Korean towel but yet to see any difference - it was a cheap one though so if anybody has recommendations for good ones it be much appreciated.

LadyCrustybread · 15/02/2026 12:29

I have severe eczema and have always been dry and sensitive but I’m always getting compliments on my skin. I use:

Face:

  1. House of Dohwa Rice Bran Powder Wash - it’s very gentle and brightening with a tiny bit of exfoliation.
  2. Pixi Lactic Acid Toner - gentler than the glycolic acids and I only use maximum of twice a week.
  3. Coconut Formula Coconut Hydrate moisturiser - somehow works better than any prescribed emollients. Gentle and smells nice, no spots caused.
  4. Coconut Forumla Cocoa Butter - for when I’m extra dry and need a thicker product

Body:

  1. Italy towels to exfoliate after a long bath
  2. Coconut Hydrate as above works a charm

Thats it. Anything else sets my skin off and this keeps me moist ha.

These Italy towels are fantastic - https://www.stylevana.com/en_GB/sungbo-cleamy-genuine-korean-exfoliating-bath-washcloth-green-3pcs36334.html?sonid=36314&___store=bwsvukb_en&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=22687455006&utm_term=&device=m&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22697115562&gbraid=0AAAAACgRyztYwt4Hsvs-kEdFFz1Mf4-Uv&gclid=CjwKCAiA-sXMBhAOEiwAGGw6LHqrWRjTvveXosiDaJ0W9Uf5ZhT3JMTsQyolDTdWwTXiPSdZo2ZdDhoCxbkQAvD_BwE

Exfoliate to get rid of the dry skin first then body oil/ moisturiser

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 15/02/2026 12:47

The ordinary multi peptide serum with squalene - my shins drank this up - and then topped with Ameliorate foot cream. It's intensely moisturising and the serum beforehand seemed to help.

Artesia · 15/02/2026 12:51

In my experience it's more about how often and when than what you use. It takes less than 2 mins to moisturise all over after a shower in the morning. Pores are open after the heat so more receptive to the moisturiser, and I find now if I don't my skin feels really tight. So just pick on and commit to using every single day. Will definitely help

SuzieYellow · 15/02/2026 12:54

A GP told me to stop using moisturiser. Said it’ll never work on really dry skin. Told me to only use ointments on my skin instead. I use epaderm ointment. Tend to put loads on as I’m getting in to bed for the night and marinade in it all night.

NotEnoughRoom · 15/02/2026 12:58

I know this sounds a bit bonkers, but Boots do a minty foot cream in a glass jar - and I swear that stuff is magic. I use it on my arms and legs and it makes those horrid red bumps improve as well!

I really like this stuff for hot summer feet! It’s properly old school and lovely.

typical bonkers GP. that’s not what NHS and private dermatologists have told me over the last 20 years to present it’s always emollients and when things are really bad you use them every two hours and can “bandage” with old clothes to keep moisture in. never been told to use ointments

imakomododragon · 15/02/2026 16:39

I've tried all sorts of lotions and potions over the years, but I've come to accept that having lizard skin is just part of who I am.

Raven08 · 15/02/2026 16:50

La roche posay cicaplast baume
Spf 50 for face

SherbertsHerberts · 16/02/2026 09:05

I tried the Korean cloth thing last night. OMG, the amount of skin I shed was disgusting (but also fascinating.) Slathered a generous amount of CeraVe cream on afterwards and my skin feels much better.

The bath, on the other hand, needed an industrial clean. 🤢🤣

What have you been doing, you need to moisturise daily,

i moisturise all over each morning before I get dressed, I use a scented one I like, rituals or Laura mercier, I also use bio oil on my arms stomach and upper chest.

i use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream on my upper chest, that’s made an enormous difference, I can’t quite believe it, I’m mid 50s and my décolletage used to have that creased look, it’s now totally smooth and tight, I also use it on my feel, and no cracked skin, and then rub it up my shins, I do that every couple of days,

you don’t need much, and use the original, it stinks, but god that stuff is a game changer,

Can I ask if its the 8 hour cream in the little pot you use, or the 8 hour body lotion?

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 16/02/2026 09:21

The Conditioning Body Balm from AKT is brilliant. Even knees and elbows are soft and smooth and the fragrances are lovely, understated and natural. It is quite expensive but I alternate it with one from Altruist. AKT deodorant is great too.
