Teeth whitening but not expensive?

Just wondering if anybody has had any success with this with something cheap? (not dentist or lasers) I'm not expecting miracles just a bit of an improvement.

I swear by this along with a whitening head on my electric toothbrush.

ZaraCC · 28/01/2026 22:10

Crest whitestripes are the job. Only available in the US so you can order but pay customs!

NotnowMildrid · 28/01/2026 22:48

@ZaraCC
Interesting.
Can you put a link to them in here?

ZaraCC · 28/01/2026 23:09

I don't have a link but I know Target deliver. I have bought the professional ones which are more expensive but other friends say the normal ones are just as good!

AbbaDabbaDooh · 28/01/2026 23:39

I did a Groupon.

Pinkchilli · 28/01/2026 23:41

yes 2nd crest whitening strips have had great results over the years with these. Amazon US will deliver them. Beware of counterfeit items on some other sites.

Loyaltotheoil · 28/01/2026 23:44

crest white professional effects
but them from Amazon US

paddleboardingmum · 29/01/2026 15:59

Thanks for these ideas. Going to start with @VanityUnit66 toothpaste recomendation and I didn't know you could get whitening toothbrush heads so thanks.

It depends if your teeth are stained by drinks etc (and toothpastes will remove those stains) or naturally darker with age. Toothpaste won't whiten those.

I'd really advise against using Crest strips from the US.
The reason they aren't 'allowed' in the UK is because they are not necessarily safe. Before any whitening at a dentist they check your teeth and gums.

The strips won't fit around your teeth, they will just touch the front of each tooth, unlike professional whitening which is customised to your teeth.

Yes crest professional effects £30 for 10 treatments, you can order from UK websites

My teeth were always yellow from being a teenager despite no smoking, wine, coffee etc. One treatment of these and they were white, I redo them once a year.

I'd be very very careful
What's the % of peroxide in them?

If they are working that fast it sounds as if they are really strong and could erode tooth enamel.

Honestly, it's not worth messing with your teeth with these strips.

No you can’t legally as they contain too high a percentage of hydrogen peroxide to be sold legally in the U.K. or EU.

In which case are you happy to put something inside your body that is sold by criminals, knowingly breaking the law, and have no guarantee what you are buying is genuine or safe as there is no legitimate way of supplying them to the U.K?

There is no toothpaste or anything else you can buy over the counter that will whiten teeth. Whitening toothpastes just remove external stain , they do not whiten. They remove stain by either using acid or abrasives or both and what removes stain will also remove enamel .

This stuff is amazing. I just wish I didn’t hate the texture so much. Using it feels like a punishment. But it really does make a difference!

Here is the abrasiveness of common toothpastes https://www.williamsonperio.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Toothpaste-Abrasiveness-Ranked-by-RDA.pdf

toothpastes in the U.K. cannot whiten teeth they can only remove staining by grinding it away with an abrasive or dissolving it away with an acid .

This has an rda (abrasiveness index) of 200 which means it is highly abrasive and not recommended for use.

Maybe you've been lucky. Like someone smoking 50 a day and being alive at 100!

The restrictions in the UK exist for a reason.

I looked up Cresta strips online and there is no info at all about the percentage of peroxide.

Most dentists use 6% for day home whitening but in the past much higher concentrations were available but removed off the market.

Clefable · 30/01/2026 09:54

My dentist made me mouth trays and recommended Pola Night syringes, which you can get online. They worked really well and my hygienist was impressed with the results when I saw her last week. I have some to use as top-ups every so often (this has reminded me I may do one today!). The mouth guard was the expensive bit but you could make your own with those ones you stick in hot water and then bite into, it just won’t fit quite as well (mine were 3d printed or something after using some cool scanner thing inside my mouth!).
