Help I’m 56 and I need a medium glowy coverage ding want it to look cakey !
currently using YSL glow foundation - to me it’s very Matt and not great ! I also use eborian cc dore when I’m not going anywhere where I need full make up !
in the past I have tried By Terry and Nars and Laura mercier - though they were a couple of years ago !
Any recommendations ? Skin is normal tend to have red cheeks and nose !

Lisa Eldridge or Rare.

Overtheatlantic · 26/01/2026 20:49

I just started using Lisa Eldridge skin tint and love it. Very light but gives good coverage.

Fifiellz · 26/01/2026 20:50

I’ve got Armani Luminous which I found by searching best foundations for mature skin. I was finding they all sank into lines, looked too powdery etc.

The Armani one is lovely, looks fresh and slightly sheeny instead of matte. I’ve stopped using powder as well just use a setting spray now and I’m finding it a lot better.,

Another vote for Lisa Eldridge Enhancing Skin Tint.

I'm 53, and since I started using the Chanel Les Beiges water fresh people keep telling me I'm glowing. It is very light coverage, but thats OK with a bit of concealer as needed and it doesn't crease

Great suggestions. Thanks will take a look at lisa Eldridge, Armani and Chanel. Are you applying with a brush ? Or fingers
concealer ideas would be great too

Any tried VB

I moved to No7 hydroluminous and it’s just the best. Bought it as a cheap alternative to Clinique and have never gone back. No caking and great colour match using the skin matching thing.

Fifiellz · 26/01/2026 21:43

I’ve started using a thick foundation brush, used to use my fingers but I feel it actually applies better with a brush

Fifiellz · 26/01/2026 21:44

Charlotte Tilbury magic concealer - I’ve just bought it and I like it

giddyboo · 26/01/2026 21:54

Loreal paris true match serum . Light coverage and a glowy tint. Doesnt settle in my dry skin.

Another vote for Lisa Eldridge Skin Tint

I love Ekin-Su radiant glow. And the blush.

I think less is more as you get older, so it doesn’t sit and cake.

Sundayagain27 · 26/01/2026 22:31

Interesting - was going to ask about blush
i tend yo go for a cream one any thoughts
really appreciate all these ideas !

Honestly I’d try maybelline, L’Oréal or rimmel before you go spendy- rimmel’s perfect match is very close to ysl (used to be even more but they changed it slightly)

user593 · 26/01/2026 22:34

@Sundayagain27 I absolutely love Merit Flush Balm. I have four. I won’t buy anything else now! They’re sheer but buildable and really hard to get wrong.

ProfessionalPirate · 27/01/2026 11:02

Dior forever skin glow. Not at all cakey, medium coverage. I’m 40, but my mum is 70 and she also uses it and I think she looks great!

bonnnn · 27/01/2026 12:31

Hourglass. Always hourglass

Thank you for this suggestion. Most of the others are out of my price range. I will give this a go.

Bobbi Brown.
They do one that lightweight and 40+ shades. (It's not the serum one as that's quite oily IMO and no coverage.

I used that a few years ago then they reformulated and the shades were different. I made an expensive mistake with the shade when they were changed. I agree it's nice but very £££.

It's a good foundation IF you can get the colour matched.

I used the lightest and found it quite pink/ grey on my skin which is neutral.
The issue with Boots is they have few colours.

I'm using Bobbi Brown and there are 40+ shades. I had it matched in store and there were 2 possibles out of the 40+.

I’m 43 with slightly dry skin. I really like Estée Lauder double wear sheer light

midwalker · 27/01/2026 15:07

Agree Merit flush balms are a great blush product.

I recently switched to Jones Road What the Foundation and I love it. Really moisturising and totally different from most other foundations in texture. You can only try in person at Liberty though.

Appalonia · 27/01/2026 17:02

I like IT Cosmetics. Dewy and good coverage for red cheeks. However, using a decent primer will also make a lot of difference. I tend to use Korean ones, but Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is also very good.

ShebaQueen · 27/01/2026 17:26

I like Sculpted by Aimee Hydratint for light coverage and the Cream Cushion for days when I need more
