Foamy bar soap 🧼

rachll · 26/01/2026 16:10

I love bar soap (rather than shower gel) and used to use Original Source Lavender and Rosemary which really foamed up well, felt lovely on my skin and smelt lovely! But now it’s been discontinued Confused

Can anyone recommend a bar of soap that is really foamy and smells nice?

Pearl Creamy White Soap Bars - ASDA Groceries
Smells of soap

Lavender Natural Soap | Plastic-Free | Faith In Nature
good reliable brand

Body Shop (are they still available?)

Nicecatneighbour · 26/01/2026 16:19

Imperial leather, but the white one. It's creamy, smells nice and lathers well, even here with v hard water.

PsychoSyd · 26/01/2026 16:22

Pears Lemon Flower soap. It's green rather than the traditional orange but it smells nicer & has a lovely foam.

rbe78 · 26/01/2026 16:26

Dove Cream bar (not a soap, as they are very keen to point out!). Lovely rich texture, plenty of bubbles and that nice fresh Dove smell. https://www.boots.com/dove-original-beauty-bar-90g-x-2-10309020

I love this one but can never find it! Where do you get it?

walttynutcade · 26/01/2026 16:31

It is available on Amazon

Foam is created through additives and it uses lots of water and your soap bar the won’t last very long. It may be satisfying for you to use but it’s not healthy or environmentally friendly.

Tortephant · 26/01/2026 16:52

Sorry, this sounds a bit harsh, not intended like that. There are many amazing soap bars, I’m a fan too, I’m just not keen on unnecessary ingredients.

I don't think this is true for traditional soap bars. My Nesti Dante bars last at least a month, and soap has a fairly simple formula which has been around for centuries* without a noticeable effect on the environment. And surely shower gels are mostly water and often packaged in single-use plastic?

Yes I am a big fan of pure soaps, not ones filled with additives.

Not traditional soap bars. OP, take a look at Droyts glycerine soaps. Their lavender bar smells lovely and they lather up a treat.

You buy direct online, or collect if you're local to the factory. They've made them in the same way in the same factory for over a century, so they've had time to perfect their craft.

Yes, I never said all soap bars. I love soap bars! My comment was related to OP wanting “foamy”. Droyt glycerine soaps are lovely, they just don’t last very long.

TKMaxx always had a great selection of lovely Italian soaps, about £3 a bar.

PeopleTheyAintNoGood · 26/01/2026 18:04

I love Imperial Leather soap. Don't care. I've tried lots of expensive ones and still prefer this.

ThankYouVeryMuchJerry · 26/01/2026 18:09

Another vote for TKMaxx. Some lovely ones and all affordable 😊

Foam in a bar soap is created by the soap itself. Each type of oil used in the manufacture of a soap creates a different foam, both in feel and density. Olive oil soap for example, makes hardly any bubbles but a lot of slime. Coconut oil makes a very robust foam, and a pure coconut soap bar will even foam in sea water. Animal fats such as tallow make very mild, gentle, delicate foams, but have limited label appeal these days so they are actually very hard to find.

Commercial bar soaps are typically a mix of palm, palm kernal, coconut and other vegetable oils. As long as the oils are ethically sourced, all true bar soaps (not dove!) are far, far more environmentally friendly AND healthy than shower gels which are just made of detergent - a completely different substance.

UpMyself · 26/01/2026 19:28

Me too but in TKMaxx.

Yes. I was responding about foam. I buy bars not gels. My interest is ingredients and proper cleaning. Foam from oils also varies on how the bar has been made and how hard/soft water is where it is used.

I recently used a donkey milk soap DD got me on holiday in Greece. It's so soft and creamy, foams just enough, and smells divine

Footyfandango · 27/01/2026 02:08

I also buy French soap, a little bit pricier than your supermarket bars, but worth it. I get mine from

https://chateaudusavon.com/

All natural, smell divine and so many to choose from. A bar lasts about a month, and lather up very creamy
Six bars arrived this week, and zero plastic

The English Soap Company foam well. They smell wonderful, lots of flowery smells to choose from.

Jayinthetub · 27/01/2026 07:00

https://yorkshiresoap.co.uk/ Their glycerine soap is amazing!

MyThreeWords · 27/01/2026 07:08

It annoys me how few 'bar soaps' (previously just known as 'soap') there are in the supermarket and high street shops these days. Used to be many more, before body washes took over. These days it is much harder to find a nice one because there is so little to choose from.

I just don't get why body washes displaced ordinary soap. More packaging and more fiddle.

Most of these are not actual soap. None of the glycerine 'soaps' are soap. They are detergent bars. Same ingredients as washing up liquid/shower gel with added propylene glycol and hardeners.
