My nose is always red, is there anything I can do (can't afford lazer)

I don't wear make up and when I have tried it never sticks to my nose! I've even been into Boots for a consult and I've told them that concealer just lifts from my red nose (my skin is totally normal, just very pink/red) and it did the same thing for the MUA.

Lazer is too expensive

Is there anything else I can do?

I'm in the UK.

I know the GP wouldn't be interested, purley cosmetic and I don't have the money tongo private.

Will google the creams suggested

well you need to actually speak to the GP first before you decide they’re not interested 🤷🏽‍♀️
very unlikely they’ll be a random cheap miracle item you can buy🤔
then it’s either save for dermatologist or makeup? what else is there? 🤦🏽‍♀️

Why is that unlikely?
I had palmoplantar pustular psoriasis on my hands and it raged for 14 months with so many expensive prescription creams and steroids being used.

You know what cleared it up, after seeing a tip online?
Apple cider vinegar soaks. £1 a bottle in B&M.

So its entirely possible that someone here had a tip for me.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ (just thought I would join in with the emoji usage you seem so fond of)

I have hashimotos and underactive thyroid. Also have pustular psoriasis which is autoimmune related.

Ahh, so you didn't mention this in your OP!
Are you under a specialist? Endocrinologist and dermatologist? When were your last set of bloods done to check thyroid?

This is my nose.

It’s a circulation issue. Over winter I am a veritable Rudolph with my very shiny red nose.

if I put blusher on I look like a weird Chucky doll.

Powder compact foundation is awful as it cakes on my nose. Double wear is also awful as it sticks in the creases.

Cream foundation also slides off.

The only thing that has worked for me is Maybelline and I keep it in my handbag and apply a dot every time I go to the loo. Yes it slides off but it’s the most natural looking foundation that I can find then blends in without looking obvious.

If you would rather use something with longer staying power then I have also used Rodial concealer in peach which is also good but ££

I know you’ve said that you don’t like to use make up but you don’t have a skin issue so you don’t need medication.

it’s either get used to it or cover it, I’m afraid.

Which Maybelline product? They have many!

I wouldn't bother spending money on laser treatments unless you've got whatever is making it flare up under control. I think considering your other autoimmune issues, your GP really should be involved in this. You might find a miracle cure from all the suggestions, but equally, you might try a bunch of stuff that only aggravates your skin - rosacea/flushing prone skin is notoriously sensitive.

I used Soolantra, a red light mask and was religious about taking a probiotic and an oregano oil capsule a day and my rosacea cleared up. I now use skincare with some azelaic acid three nights a week and add Soolantra back in if it seems like it's flaring up.

But everyone is different - try having a chat with a GP. And if you're diagnosed with Hashimotos, do you get free prescriptions?

stargirl27 · 28/01/2026 12:50

Have you tried the Dr Jart Cicapair colour correcting treatment? I think it would help you! You can get a mini pot to try it out.

zurigo · 28/01/2026 12:57

Rather than trying all these expensive creams, why not go and speak to your GP? You say they won't be interested, but if you go in and say 'I'm fairly sure I have rosacea, could you please prescribe me something for it?' then they should do so and that's just a £9.90 prescription charge. I use metronidazole gel (aka Metrogel) and if I get a rosacea flare up it clears it up in a week or two.

lindyloo57 · 28/01/2026 13:32

I would try laura geller balance and brighten it a powder foundation, its the only foundation for me that lasts all day , just make sure to get the correct colour, qvc do a return even if its used if that helps.

user675895 · 28/01/2026 13:39

I also wanted to add that it's a good idea to get it diagnosed and treated, because in the long term, untreated rosacea can cause the skin on your nose to thicken and become bumpy.

Aur0raAustralis · 28/01/2026 13:55

Another one who suggests going to your GP. I had the same issue - red nose, and makeup wouldn't stay on. I got it treated and my skin is much better now and makeup stays on my face, not that I need it as much now.

Ad others have said, rosacea does progress so worth getting on top of it now.

JudgementalCat · 28/01/2026 14:21

@Aur0raAustralis what did you treat it with please?

Fit me foundation .

Porcuine20 · 28/01/2026 22:36

I have rosacea and the same problems with foundation. What works for me is - azelaic acid cream every evening (I’m using one by ‘The Ordinary’). Moisturiser with sun cream in, in the summer, and then for make-up, I do a thin layer of moisturiser, followed by a primer (I’ve got one from Elf at the moment) followed by powder foundation. The primer really makes a difference and helps it stick.

If you’re in the Uk Op then Soolantra cream is the price of a prescription. Your GP would definitely be interested as it’s a medical condition and, whether Rosacea, Psoriasis or something else, it is likely treatable.

As someone else has mentioned they believe now that many cases of Rosacea are caused by an increase in the number of skin mites (Démodex) which the cream reduces. Things can get a bit worse before it gets better though (luckily mine didn’t). Since using the cream my skin has been fine, no flushes, spots or redness.

JudgementalCat · 28/01/2026 14:21

@Aur0raAustralis what did you treat it with please?

I got a gel to start with (Rosex?) and that didn't work. I ended up being referred to a dermatologist and got a drug to treat it. I can't remember which one it was, just that I couldn't get pregnant on it. This was more than a decade ago.

Sorry not to be able to offer an easier solution, but the GP is a good starting point.

JudgementalCat · 30/01/2026 16:58

I've got a prescription for Soolantra after following this thread. I'm looking forward to fixing my face! (And slightly disgusted by skin mites🤮)

Ooh I feel silly making an appointment just for this. I was trying to hold off until I needed to go for something else but its really getting me down now that I know there may be a solution.
