My nose is always red, is there anything I can do (can't afford lazer)

I don't wear make up and when I have tried it never sticks to my nose! I've even been into Boots for a consult and I've told them that concealer just lifts from my red nose (my skin is totally normal, just very pink/red) and it did the same thing for the MUA.

Lazer is too expensive

Is there anything else I can do?

Do you have enlarged pores? Is that why makeup doesn't stay? Enlarged pores can be caused by rosacea.
This is very good - if you can get to space nk they should be able to give you a reasonable sized sample to try.

You may need a good primer. Try a super grip primer from nyx

minnowonthesay · 26/01/2026 13:59

Have you tried Double Wear @CakeInMyHair? It’s truly unbelievable, it does not budge until you take it off, so much better than all other longwear (they lie!) foundations

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 26/01/2026 14:26

Save up. By the time you’ve wasted money on creams you might as well laser. I spent £200 on rosacea and thread vein laser treatment and it was brilliant.

paddleboardingmum · 26/01/2026 14:29

Could it be related to gut/allergies? I have heard of this somewhere.

£200? For laser treatment? Is that a typo?

Vinvertebrate · 26/01/2026 14:35

I’m the same. Saw a dermatologist for moles and she asked me what I was doing about my rosacea!

She wrote to GP who prescribed Soolantra and it cleared up with a single application (and cost £9.90 or whatever it is now). The cream (ivermectin is the active ingredient) is a sort of insecticide because rosacea is connected to having a lot of Demodex mites on your skin, so I was VERY keen to treat the redness <shudder>

APatternGrammar · 26/01/2026 14:38

Rosacea can damage your eyes if it progresses, it is absolutely something the GP should prescribe for.

Trallers · 26/01/2026 14:43

The GP will be interested if it's rosacea because it isn't just a red nose (even if it starts that way). You shouldn't just leave it as it's an autoimmune condition that will get gradually worse if left. If you already have an autoimmune condition (psoriasis) then you're more likely to develop another so rosacea seems a strong possibility. See the GP and ask if you can be referred to a dermatologist (especially as you already have psoriasis). It doesn't matter if the referral takes forever, you want the right advice about which medication to use in the longer term. In the shorter term the GP can prescribe something to try.

I've looked and all the quotes are more like £900 for 3 sessions

Heres my nose, it doesn't look as bad zoomed in but against the rest of my face its very red.

No enlarged pores

Oh stop it @CakeInMyHairI was expecting Rudolph esque proportions, your nose does not look highly coloured at all, your skin is beautiful but I do understand that it’s you that has to be satisfied with it. Please try a sample of Estée Lauder Double Wear, it will definitely work on you and last all day.

JudgementalCat · 26/01/2026 20:42

Definitely try Dr Jart cicaplair - I'm sure it would work wonders for you.

Lemondessert · 26/01/2026 20:49

I have rosecea and have started reading up on auto immune conditions. Diet and alcohol are a big influence. It may be worth contacting the gp or a dietitian.

I have hashimotos and underactive thyroid. Also have pustular psoriasis which is autoimmune related.

I have this. Doesn't stay on my nose. And is too thick to wear all over my face.

I will also second soolantra.

I had a very red nose, which as you say no makeup would adhere to. I tried some products designed for rosacea by La Roche Posey. They did something very minor towards helping but nothing significant.

I then did lots of research into rosacea and I discovered that they are now stating to think that rosecea seems to have a ‘cause’ - (google Mumsnet rosacea too, as lots of the evidence I found was courtesy of helpful people on here) It can actually be caused by an overrunning of microscopic skin mites (demodex) and the only way to control them is soolantra cream.

It is indeed expensive but I stumped up the money and used soolantra every evening (that’s giving it maximum time to work on the skin overnight) for five weeks. I was expecting it to take longer. The redness has completely cleared up and thus far has not come back either so it was absolutely worth the investment. That was nine months ago.

orangelion66 · 27/01/2026 07:30

I used an oil, SKIN1004. It came in a beauty advent calendar so I didn’t know its reputation. After using it for a few weeks I noticed my cheeks and nose were far less red, and I googled it and found out people were using it for rosacea. It’s not that expensive, you can get it in Superdrug. Soolantra is probably a quicker and surefire way to go about it, but I think this oil would be helpful for milder redness.

random9876 · 27/01/2026 07:55

You could start with trying the Ordinary Azeliac acid cream (10%) at £8 - it works for me. I get a little mild rosacea, it was unpleasant for a little while but that and soolantra really helped.

ApplesAreAmazing · 27/01/2026 07:56

Vitamin K cream to help strengthen blood vessels, and retinol to do the same (use lightly and use good sunscreen, the sun will help not get caught by the sun). Have you tried a powder on your nose to set the makeup, I think something like Laura Geller powder foundation might help, possibly an approach of a vitamin K moisturiser and a light normal foundation on your nose then powder foundation. Then warm up your cheeks with a bronzer so that the nose and cheeks are not such a different colour.
Sorry this is happening to you, I went through a period of having red cheeks, probably rosacea but I did not realise, and tried all sorts. The green makeup was awful on me!

Waitingformychinesetakeaway · 28/01/2026 02:17

Aldi do a green colour correcting moisturiser.

ADCisntme · 28/01/2026 03:53

This is my nose.

It’s a circulation issue. Over winter I am a veritable Rudolph with my very shiny red nose.

if I put blusher on I look like a weird Chucky doll.

Powder compact foundation is awful as it cakes on my nose. Double wear is also awful as it sticks in the creases.

Cream foundation also slides off.

The only thing that has worked for me is Maybelline and I keep it in my handbag and apply a dot every time I go to the loo. Yes it slides off but it’s the most natural looking foundation that I can find then blends in without looking obvious.

If you would rather use something with longer staying power then I have also used Rodial concealer in peach which is also good but ££

I know you’ve said that you don’t like to use make up but you don’t have a skin issue so you don’t need medication.

it’s either get used to it or cover it, I’m afraid.

Azelaic acid really helps my redness, I buy the cream but need a high strength. I started on 15% and moved up to 20% after about 5 months.

I second this , if you have rosacea, then it’s brilliant. So you need to find out the cause first of all. My rosacea on my cheeks and nose has gone, after a year of using azelaic acid, 20%. I started off on 10%, with the Ordinary. I still use it in a morning sometimes. But every night I use Dermatica 20% . It made my skin feel dry at first, but soon got used to it

Sorry just saw the cause of it, I was so eager to tell you about azelaic acid I didn’t read the full post!
