Should I keep the Brora tank?

I ordered a Brora cashmere tank in the sale. It's still £225 which I consider a pretty large sum for a single garment. The colour is amazing, I love the colour but I'm erring on the side of sending it back but then worry that I'll regret not keeping it?

It looks shit without anything underneath it (on me at least) and I had visions of wearing it over shirts. I don't currently have any shirts. The only thing I've got that I could wear under it are some long sleeved t-shirts.

Or I could order a few shirts to wear underneath it before I make a decision?

It's the ONLY item of clothing that I've bought this Winter, apart from a pair of loafers (from Russell and fecking Bromley). I have made a few things tho'

OMG. In short, is this an investment piece that will last forever, if I look after it, or is it too indulgent especially as I need to buy things to go with it (that I was going to buy anyway ...)

Brora is really high quality wool, I doubt the Next one is. The style itself might look much nicer though.

No the next one is synthetic. But it looks lovely.
ive got a very fine cashmere one from The White Company that was £130 which is wearing away where my seat belt in the car rubs it… I feel so much happier in my next version!

Thanks for this, confirms what I'd thought.

I have a couple of vintage Brora things - not that old, probably early 2000s - and the difference between then and now is huge. Of course they're not the only retailer to let their quality slip but I agree with you that it's the way they continue to trade on their heritage that leaves a bad taste.

I find Brora really dated in the cut of many of their items, compare it to other similar price points retailers and they look very dated indeed. Consider Reiss and me and em, both much more modern tailoring, and arguably better quality, for a similar price point, Brora usually looks frumpy in comparison. Even their online site has the whiff of back of a Sunday supplement about it.

i think they have failed to move with the times considering they say they are targeting fashion conscious luxury orientated demographic I think they are failing significantly and being left behind.

this tank is a key example. It’s cut is all wrong and is more reminiscent of your grandpa in his Sunday best, wearing a shit and tie under it. The cut of the neck, the shoulders the length, it’s all a bit old bloke.

Agree. I think I have one item from them from way back (eBay probably), which is a classic cardigan & it's fine. But I don't even bother looking at their stuff now.

(Btw, I know people can go a bit funny in old age - but I really hope your grandad didn't stick his poo down his jumpers!! 😁)

Ha! Not to my knowledge or olfactory senses…😂

Sadly, it doesn’t look the same on you as on the model. She’s likely to be 5’ 10” and a size 8 with no bust.
This one, however, is stunning! (And is £120 cheaper)

I KEEP being retargeted and served this top on MN as I love it...

I clicked it and it was back in stock in 10 and £80 so I pulled the trigger 🙈😅

To be honest I don’t think it looks great on the model either, she’s 6ft and wearing a ten, she’s likely an 8 so wearing a larger size. It still looks dated due to its cut.
