Should I keep the Brora tank?

LoveSandbanks · 24/01/2026 21:28

I ordered a Brora cashmere tank in the sale. It's still £225 which I consider a pretty large sum for a single garment. The colour is amazing, I love the colour but I'm erring on the side of sending it back but then worry that I'll regret not keeping it?

It looks shit without anything underneath it (on me at least) and I had visions of wearing it over shirts. I don't currently have any shirts. The only thing I've got that I could wear under it are some long sleeved t-shirts.

Or I could order a few shirts to wear underneath it before I make a decision?

It's the ONLY item of clothing that I've bought this Winter, apart from a pair of loafers (from Russell and fecking Bromley). I have made a few things tho'

OMG. In short, is this an investment piece that will last forever, if I look after it, or is it too indulgent especially as I need to buy things to go with it (that I was going to buy anyway ...)

I'm going to agree with pp, it's not for you. Not because of your body size/shape, because every woman is different, but because of the style.
There is nothing wrong with your shape, you just need to find something more flattering.
A lower V, a slightly looser cut, a little longer, perhaps! I love the colour and I think it's a great idea with a shirt underneath.
Hopefully these suggestions will all help.
If you want cashmere, I'm going to second Marks and Spencer.

Fuck! A picture?

it looks less identifying but im still going to
delete it tomorrow!

currently braless because it’s way to late to put one back on

imagine it with a pair of navy merino wool flannel wide legs (made by me obvs)

I might not buy many clothes but I spend a fortune on fabric! 😳

I could knit that on my knitting machine in half an hour for £2.50.

Gahr · 25/01/2026 11:10

I'd send it back. I have no problem with spending money if the item is really good quality, but that top is poorly made IMO and in no way justifies its price tag. These companies are getting more audacious in their pricing.

NotnowMildrid · 25/01/2026 11:22

For that price, I would send it back if I wasn’t sure.

I would have to absolutely love it to keep it.

FWIW, the picture looks great, but YOU have got to feel great.

Can I just say @LoveSandbanks that if that pic is you without a bra, you're blessed with fantastic breasts 🥰

😂

im actually really not blessed with great breasts, I’m very wide rooted with little projection and they’re generally pointing towards my armpits.

but I’ve had two mammograms, both of which were clear so I’m happy.

But, I’ll always take the compliment, thank you.

Agree with @Furlane. A deeper V would be better and at that price I’d want it to be perfect. Colour is lovely.

This is my thinking as well. Its too much money not to be absolutely certain you love it and it's the perfect shape and fit.

EstherGreenwood63 · 25/01/2026 11:54

@SalmonOnFinnCrisp I actually looked up the youtube of this last week to show husband. Such a great show. 🤣

Rattai · 25/01/2026 12:02

Put it on and ask yourself out you feel like you're wearing £225.
To my it looks very basic... Not horrible but not high end either.
I would send it vack .I also agree the v is too high

Obviousquestion · 25/01/2026 12:12

Be mindful that the returns policy is 14 days. I bought a hat for Christmas and was caught out by this!

Return it.

The cut is wrong. The colour looks cheap.

There is no saving this vest with a collared shirt and you can’t wear it with that t-shirt.

I get that frugal girl style is an aesthetic right now…. But they are blues and tans and the fit is loose and sometimes oversized. This vest doesn’t fit any aesthetic. Return it and buy a long sleeve blue collared shirt and a tan vest with a lower v neck in a larger size.

UpMyself · 25/01/2026 12:18

Return it. It's doesn't look stylish at all.

PrincessofWells · 25/01/2026 12:20

The problem is that it bags at the side where your waist is so not flattering. I would send it back and look for a more flattering cut.

Knitted tanks look great over a short sleeve white tee, as well as long tees, less expense than buying some shirts? Maybe am biased as I love Brora and slso knitted tanks...

UpMyself · 25/01/2026 13:02

The OP's tank won't look good full stop. It looks too small, the fit isn't right and the V isn't deep enough.

PhaedraWas · 25/01/2026 13:05

It's actually completely irrelevant what anyone on here says, or whether anyone thinks it's "flattering". If you have to ask " should I keep this?" the answer is always "no"

PhaedraWas · 25/01/2026 13:11

Justsomethoughts23 · 25/01/2026 09:46

What an unnecessarily bitchy comment! I don’t love the OP jumper (although do love the colour) but I think this mint green thing is pretty hideous and maybe wouldn’t be the OP’s style if what she’s actually purchased is plain in a strong colour.

I hate the "only look good on the 5' 10", size 8" model" attitude. It gets trotted out so often and it's such nonsense.

UpMyself · 25/01/2026 13:11

You have a nice figure, @LoveSandbanks , but as pp "If you have to ask " should I keep this?" the answer is always "no"".

But it’s cashmere, can your knitting machine knit cashmere?

I dont have the space for a full size knitting machine but now I’m thinking of one of those round ones 😂

I’d love to know where to source enough high quality cashmere yarn for £2.50. 😁

Happyjoe · 25/01/2026 13:23

Unless you LOVE it for that kind of money, send it back. I often found purchases bought otherwise don't get worn.
And sorry to say, I don't much like tanks/vests because they remind me of grandads and school uniform but of course, that's just me! Be a dull place if all the same.

Wickedlittledancer · 25/01/2026 13:40

Op, me +em do some lovely cashmere pieces, I’ve a couple of their cashmere vests and the quality is fantastic, there are a couple of v necks, but not many though. Personally I find v neck quite dated and prefer round, but I wear them on their own, however if you prefer v then it does have to be deep to avoid the old bloke look.

I think it depends on how you wear it and ensuring it’s a modern cut and a flattering fit. The ops is a bit grandad as the v isn’t very deep, which is very unflattering.

Daftypants · 25/01/2026 14:03

It’s a nice colour , bit of a high V for you I think a lower V or a slash neck / boat neck is good for your figure.
if in doubt at all ( especially since it’s pricey ) return it .
i got a bargain fair isle style cardi from Pure this year reduced to half price so only £80 , I’m delighted but I might change the buttons
