Upper Eyelid Surgery - anyone had it?

My upper eyelids are so droopy now they are resting on my lashes. My eyes were my main beauty all my life, and now they are practically buried in these upper lids. A friend had the surgery, said it was horrendous, and the result only lasted a year and then her lids were drooping again. I just wondered if there were any success stories out there. I am tempted, then get cold feet.

I'm the same op but can't afford the surgery ☹️

Some things I've found that have helped are Lumi Eyes treatment, Microneedling the area above the eyes (painful), Botox brow lift, facial massage and face yoga, and planning on doing plasma later this year. Drinking LOTS of water, cutting down salt, gluten, alcohol and sugar.

They are not perfect, but at least now I can see a bit of top eyelid whereas before they were hanging in my eyes.

I had it done around 6/7 years ago and would 100% recommend it. I was awake throughout and it was over in about 30 mins. I bruised under my eyes which I wasn’t expecting and was quite swollen afterwards but that was about it. Nothing else will work apart from surgery. These are my before and after pics. I would guess I may need to get it done again after about 10 years but maybe not.

Wow 😊

Looks great 😊

If your drooping eyelids are obscuring your vision, you can have this operation on the NHS. When they sat me at the machine to test my field of vision, the consultant told me not to look up. The operation was painless. I don’t remember having any bruising afterwards and my eyelids are still ok 12 years later.

DameCelia · 20/01/2026 20:59

Had mine done in 2023, lots of bruising but the results were fabulous. Expect them to last at least 10 years

doublec · 20/01/2026 21:13

A very good friend had hers done. It's excellent. I didn't even realise, I just noticed how refreshed she looked and said as much. I was so surprised when she told me as like me, she would never have Botox or filler. But surgery isn't that anyway, so I guess it wasn't really a huge shock.

hairypaws · 20/01/2026 21:15

Had it 2 years ago. I had wanted it for years but couldn't really justify cost for vanity. Finally just decided to go for it and wished I had done it years ago. So quick and painless. I was very stressed but staff were amazing. I have a great recommendation for Glasgow, a former NHS lead did mine. I went privately.

Irisilume · 20/01/2026 21:18

Yes I've had it done when I was 30, it's a fairly easy recovery and not too expensive as far as cosmetic procedures go. Made a huge difference, I had very hooded eyes before. It's pretty painless as well.

Summerhillsquare · 20/01/2026 21:20

Is it definitely your eyelids, or your brow?

Would you be able to share the surgeon and cost @hairypaws

igelkott2026 · 20/01/2026 21:37

My mum had this done on the NHS because it was affecting her vision but they drop again - one probably stayed about 50% better the other about 30% better.

However, I think a lot depends on your age when you have it done.

She was awake for hers and said it was very painful. She did talk about getting it done again but has changed her mind. We did see that there was a US drug called Upneeq that was supposed to help ptosis but I don't think it's available in the UK.

SSRI · 20/01/2026 21:47

Oh I really want this. Upper blepharoplasty. I’ve always had sexy hooded eyes but in my advanced age it just looks tired and grumpy.

DierdreBarlow · 20/01/2026 21:49

I had it done 10 years ago and my eyes still look better now than they looked pre-op. The difference/improvement was amazing. I only wish I could afford to have a few more tweaks.

could you tell me how much it cost in total please? did you have both done?

Willyoushutthefrontdoor · 20/01/2026 22:03

Yes. Twice. On NHS. And i think thats where the difference lies. My eyelids puff up and kind of look fluid filled for some reason. Started obscuring vision and getting infections from lashes. 1st in 2018. 2nd needed 2023. One eye is more closed than the other after that one unfortunately. I am very thankful to get it done on the NHS and it done the trick but seems a bit pointless in my situation as it just comes back and not sure what the answer is except to go private maybe. Still have reduced feeling in both brows. And needed my eyebrows tattooed to straighten them out after the 2nd one.

Inwhitelights · 20/01/2026 22:17

There’s already a few threads on here about this. Have a look at those too

Definitely lids. My brows are still high with a good shape.

This lady is recommended on the groups.

She sounds great, but she's in Manchester and I'm in the Highlands of Scotland.

Can you PM me the surgeon's details please?

I had it done around 7 years ago. Procedure took around 2 hours, I found it really unpleasant but just about manageable (I'm a huge wuss though around anything medical). Having the stitches out was horrific. One of the worst pains of my life. I turned the air blue. The bruising was extensive and long lasting. That said, it made a huge difference, was worth every penny and looks exactly the same now as it did.
